The Queen of Queens: Class of 2026 Star Olivia Vukosa on Her Recruitment and Croatian Pride

In life, we wear many hats, as we take on different roles and responsibilities within our families, communities and careers. For athletes, jerseys and hats become interchangeable, symbolizing not only the teams they play for but also the personal legacies they carry. The significance of the letters on the front only strengthens the impact of the name on the back.

Olivia Vukosa, the nation’s third-ranked player in the class of 2026 (per ESPN), exemplifies what it means to wear multiple jerseys while carrying her legacy across the world. A rose that grew from the concrete jungle of Queens, NY, with roots stretching all the way to Croatia, Vukosa is representing her family with pride.

“It definitely feels surreal,” Vukosa says, reflecting on her journey to becoming one of the top players in the country. “I wouldn’t have thought when I started playing basketball at my local league that I would be where I am today.”

After a dominant junior season in which she averaged 19.2 points, 17.9 rebounds and 5.5 blocks per game, she continues to attract national attention. Establishing herself as the top dawg in her city, she earned both Gatorade and MaxPreps New York Girls Basketball Player of the Year honors.

“I’m doing this for all of us,” Vukosa says on the importance of her heritage. “I’m representing my family’s name and the history that comes with it. So winning a state title here for them is the equivalent of winning anything in Croatia.”

The pride Vukosa has for her country is undeniable, and the impact of representing her family wherever she goes is immeasurable.

“My cousins and my relatives who are in Croatia, seeing me on TV, in the newspapers, it just brings a sense of warmth in my heart that I appreciate a lot,” she says.

Families from near and far have been able to see Olivia in different jerseys, from the Croatian national team to Christ the King, NYvsNY, the Mamba League Invitational and the SLAM Summer Classic. No matter where she’s playing or how far she is from home, the name on the back of her jersey is always shining.

Now, all eyes are on Vukosa as she narrows down her college choices. As we went to press, her top five are UConn, South Carolina, LSU, Texas and Ohio State. She’s ready to bring her New York flair wherever she lands.

“I’m an all-around player,” Vukosa says confidently. “If I need to, I could break you down and bully you in the post. And if I have to, I could spot up from anywhere beyond the three and hit it for you.”

As a two-time SLAM Summer Classic alumna (Vol. 6 and Vol. 7), she found her rhythm, showing off her confidence and constant effort to be the best player on the floor for her team.

“I’ve just been learning to take it all in and embrace it,” she says of her past year. “It’s definitely helped me evolve, playing around other high-caliber players, too. It’s allowed me to really show my true colors. An environment like the SLAM Summer Classic helped me come out of my shell and be myself.”

And through it all, she never forgets where she came from, continuing to shine a light on her teammates and CTK, and  showing exactly who she is: someone who uplifts others, no matter where she is.

“I’ve realized that I have to be the leader of the team and lead my team to win,” Vukosa says about her growth. “Being a leader on the court has helped me speak up in the classroom, too, and that’s helped me a lot.”

A team player through and through, she explained her approach: “I’m always looking to make that extra pass to any teammate that’s open, even if they’re not open. I know they can take the shot or finish at the rim.”

That same mindset follows her into the classroom. “It relates to how I am as a student. I’m always trying to get everyone involved in projects. I ask the questions that others might not want to. I’m always looking to teach and help however I can.”

Big O is more than just a basketball player. She is a leader, a role model and a living example of how far pride, purpose and persistence can take you. Whether she’s rocking a jersey for her school, her city or her country, one thing remains true: wherever she lands next, Olivia Vukosa is bringing more than just talent. She’s bringing leadership, heart and a deep sense of purpose.
