The Ultimate New York Knicks Books For Kids

April 16, 2026||2 min|

We made a kids book for the first time in SLAM’s history at the end of 2025—one that provided fun facts about each of the NBA’s 30 franchises—and the reception was overwhelmingly positive. Like, exceeded-expectations type-of-positive. So much so that it only made sense for us to take it one step further this year and go even more granular with it. The result is our first ever team-specific kids book. One which, similarly to last year’s NBA book, offers the same type of fun content—breaking down the top all-time players, the arenas, historical moments, best records, team logos, coaches, championships—except this time we get to dive even deeper into it all.

And it’s only right that we start with the franchise that’s in our backyard: the one and only New York Knicks.

As a Brooklyn kid, the Knicks were my team. I remember going to a free open gym session at Madison Square Garden before the season started when I was 11. My favorite player, like so many kids—and adults!—back in the day, was Latrell Sprewell. With his vicious two-handed dunks and his passionate play, he was just so exciting to watch and so easy to cheer for.

One thing I mentioned in our first book that is worth reiterating here is that—beyond learning a thing or two about Knicks history—we hope this book inspires kids out there to just pick up more books. We have all witnessed the impact a book can have on a child’s journey, their career paths or in just helping escape their everyday anxieties for a moment. And it’s our hope that the kids book series continues to spark all kinds of positive results.

And yes, when we say series, it’s very much because we’re planning on keeping this thing going in the months ahead, and trust that the next one is already in the works. What teams should we do next? Leagues? Levels? We’re always in planning mode, so feel free to hit us with your thoughts.

In the meantime, we hope you enjoy 80 years worth of Knicks history…told the SLAM way, of course.
