Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard and Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry are two of the deadliest shooters in NBA history.
But what if they were on the same team?
While it may seem like the type of transaction more likely to play out on 2K than in real life, according to The Atheltic’s Anthony Slater, the Warriors have discussed the idea of acquiring Logo Lillard and pairing him with Chef Curry in the backcourt.
“Would the Warriors get involved? Yes. They’d make a call and have already internally discussed the idea, as I’m sure most contenders have, considering the rising smoke out of Portland,” Slater wrote.
Slater theorized that the Warriors could use an asset like their first-round pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves, along with young pieces like 20-year-old center James Wiseman and 26-year-old former first overall pick Andrew Wiggins, to get a deal done with Portland.
Both the Blazers and Warriors had disappointing seasons in 2020-21, with Golden State missing the playoffs for the second consecutive season, finishing eighth in the Western Conference but losing both play-in tournament games to the Los Angeles Lakers and Memphis Grizzlies. Portland, who finished the season sixth in the Western Conference standings, lost in six games to the Denver Nuggets (subsequently costing former head coach Terry Stotts his job).
Lillard and Curry, on the other hand, both had tremendous individual seasons.
Curry put up a league-leading 32.0 points per game while shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from three. Lillard wasn’t far behind Curry’s numbers, dropping 28.8 points per game while shooting 45.1 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from three.
