Today, Nike released the second installment in its “Prototype” podcast series (the first episode featured Kobe Bryant) with insights from Kevin Durant and those closest to him, helping gain inside knowledge to the building of the Nike KD 8, which features Flyweave, used for the first time on a Nike Basketball sneaker—or what Nike calls, “a seatbelt for your foot.”
How do you go about making a signature shoe for a cutting-edge player?
The podcast, which you can listen to above in full, delves into that very question, with comments by everyone from Nike designer Leo Chang to actor Mark Wahlberg, DC rapper Wale and KD’s childhood coach and godfather Taras “Stink” Brown.
“With his four scoring titles, six All-Star appearances, Olympic gold medal and MVP award, Kevin Durant has become a basketball archetype,” Nike suggests. His eighth signature sneaker was inspired by that continuing legacy.
Shouts out to Nike for this very cool storytelling idea to connect with the KD 8.
