Billups Next In Line For Custom Stripes

Chauncey strikes gold on Thanksgiving.

Playing his first Thanksgiving Day game as a Denver Nugget tomorrow night, Chauncey Billups will mark the occasion with a commemorative pair of kicks. True to his history of coming up big when it counts, Billups will also use the occasion to generate some cash for a charity that he’s involved with.

Billups will take to the Pepsi Center court against Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets tomorrow night wearing a gold colored adidas TS Creator shoe. The sneaker is a tribute to his time at the days spent at the University of Colorado. Personalizations on the shoe include “Go Buffs” written on the medial collar, Billups’ initials on the lateral side of the shoe and his college nickname, “Mr. Big Shot” stitched in underneath his initials.

A limited—limited—number of these gold colored shoes will go up for auction Friday on the NBA’s auction site. Billups will sign and number just 11 pairs of these shoes and the bidding will start at a reasonable $100, with the gates open for one week, wrapping up on Dec. 4. All money raised from the auctions will go to the Porter-Billups Leadership Academy, which Billups has been working with since 2006. The group gives disadvantaged youth chances to achieve academic success.

Great to see Billups/NBA working together to give back through these shoes. I think they are ugly as… well, they are ugly, but I still like the idea of proceeds going to his foundation. Also, I’m a sucker for shoes with stuff stitched onto them.

Gotta agree with Holly about the ugly but I love dudes who rep for where they came from and never forget. Do you, Mr. Big Shot.

I remember his McDonald all american game. He was unable to play so i wondered what type of baller he was. Didn’t expect to hear much from him being that he signed with colorado, not much of a ball school. He’s a class act and Denver is lucky to have him.
