Aussie Likes Kobe, Hates Everyone Else on Team USA

“I’d heard and read stuff about (Bryant) in the past, but he was a class act all the way through, even going back to when we played them at the pre-Olympic tournament in Shanghai. “Most of the other guys on that team just acted like prima donnas. They just carried on like pork chops,” he added.

Hursty, what exactly does pork chops mean?

  • TADOne Posted: Aug.29 at 10:44 am
    I like porkchops.

  • Jukai Posted: Aug.29 at 10:52 am
They had people carrying them on giant pork chops? Holy crap! I want in on this!

I’m an aussie, and i went to the Gold medal match in Sydney in 2000.After the disgraceful performance by the the US 4X100m relay team(flexing their small P’s)i hoped the US BBall team would be different, unfotunately the same egotistical display was on show.Don’t get me wrong the US team were undeniably the best group of atheletes in the world but KG screaming F this and F that did leave a sour taste in my mouth.I love BBall, have since my first game back in 90,MJ,Pip,Magic,DRob,LJ C.Barkley but maybe the US forgets the true spirit of the Olympics.I wish only the best for the NBA,it’s my heartbeat and it saddens me to see the “dream team ” act like wankers. They were better this time, but a little word like “humility” wouldn’t go a astray. To be honest the advantage the US has like money paid to players is as unfair as other nations using steroids, and they should be beating teams by 50 points every game but they don’t(wages unjustified is an entirely different article).I just don’t remember Dream team 1 being so arrogant, confident yes,but in Sydney no.I wish i was wrong but players these days are only in it for the money eg. Gilbert Arenas(blog that Gilbert). My hope has been renewed in the likes of Greg Oden but hope may lead to dispare.
    NBA FOR LIFE

  • BETCATS Posted: Aug.29 at 11:36 am
who cares, he is Australian. The only 2 good things from their are the Crodille Hunter (RIP) and hursty.

  • alx Posted: Aug.29 at 11:49 am
@ dave being butthurt. you win the game, you get to carry on however you want. don’t confuse egotisical behavior (read: KG) with passion & drive.

  • peteb80 Posted: Aug.29 at 12:14 pm
Of course! It’s the Coriolis effect. In the Southern Hemisphere Kobe is a nice guy and all the other dudes are a$$holes.

  • Darksaber Posted: Aug.29 at 12:14 pm
Interesting perspective for once. In general it’s kinda sad that pro b-ball players (looking at YOU, Calderon) are complaining so badly about Team USA. I for one loved the way the Aussie team, especially their frontcourt took no nonsense from the superstars, there was lots of yapping going back and forth. But like Leonidas might have said: THIS…IS…BASKETBALL! Saville complaining about Bron’s Trashtalking is weak. You don’t want someone trying to intimidate you, throw you off your game with psych games and loud rhetoric, go play golf!!.

  • Darksaber Posted: Aug.29 at 12:15 pm
Still, “pork chops” being used to describe Nba players is very original.

  • Jackie Moon Posted: Aug.29 at 12:26 pm
    alx says:
@ dave being butthurt. you win the game, you get to carry on however you want
    —————————
America F*K yeah. This is a great attitude. Especially if you like to commit atrocities and justify them.

  • Scott Posted: Aug.29 at 12:27 pm
I don’t really see what Saville said about Brons chat as complaining, seems like a simple observation to me. I enjoy seeing the Aus and US teams match up, it always gets a little heated.
I’m from Aus myself, but not having seen them live I can’t comment on the attitude of the USA players

  • d.Y. Posted: Aug.29 at 12:31 pm
I still don’t get what the “pork chops” thing means! Were they acting Non-Kosher? Police-like? Delicious?

  • white castle Posted: Aug.29 at 12:45 pm
lets think about what this guy is saying… he’s acting like they were unfriendly?? yea i would be too if i was in a COMPETITION where my team is always expected to bring home the gold and lost the past two times… “He (Wade) said ‘You got the foul’, and I just asked him would he have liked it if I’d done the same thing to him.” …wow what is this pre school playground? no wonder the rest of the world’s so soft in comparison to the NBA.

  • Eboy Posted: Aug.29 at 12:48 pm
WHITE CASTLES RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, and I like that comment too.

  • Jukai Posted: Aug.29 at 1:01 pm
    Wow, peteb80, that was amazing!!

  • jdubbs29 Posted: Aug.29 at 1:12 pm
These guys come from the ghetto and keep it ghetto…what do you expect?

  • Eboy Posted: Aug.29 at 1:24 pm
^Ridiculous. I imagine you are voting for McCain?

  • mookie Posted: Aug.29 at 1:29 pm
As always, an Aussie says it the way it is. It’s worth noting the difference between an observation and complaining. There’s a reason this was only said in a small regional newspaper (not even a major city newspaper in Oz) and not shouted from the rooftops. Saville just pointed out the obvious.
    Pork chops all around!

  • Eboy Posted: Aug.29 at 1:37 pm
Uhm…..I think an Aussie saying something “the way it is” is usually only heard in your own country since Australia has no bearing on any other major nation in the world. Kind of like their basketball prowess.

  • Darksaber Posted: Aug.29 at 1:46 pm
    Zinnnggg! Eboy is on FIRE

  • Eboy Posted: Aug.29 at 1:52 pm
Darksaber, I know my country is filled with bureaucratic coc*suckers and we are the most overly show-offy nation in the world, but dammit…..it’s my country, so I feel I can stand strong when it’s downtalked……as the Aussie contingent did for their own country during the live blog here during the Olympics.

  • Hersey Posted: Aug.29 at 1:54 pm
I hate Aussies. I’m not racist but I keep stats and 8 out of 9 Aussies I’ve spent extensive time with are d0uchebags. I enjoyed it when we stomped them in basketball. Suck it pork chop.

  • Eboy Posted: Aug.29 at 1:55 pm
“Suck it, pork chop” is officially the greatest non-curseword insult, ever.

  • whooo! Posted: Aug.29 at 2:16 pm
um, maybe the attitude from team usa had something to do with how physical australia was playing?! their other big man, anderson i believe, was hard fouling and throwing bows quite a bit - especially against a smaller melo. boozer came in and hacked him hard, which was very necessary. if australia wants to come in and play tough ball, why on earth would they expect team usa to back down and be buddies?

  • mookie Posted: Aug.29 at 2:20 pm
Well stone the crows! What a Barry Crocker. Bleedin’ yanks… ;)

  • Jukai Posted: Aug.29 at 2:25 pm
Let’s make “Suck it, pork chop” the new thing to say following “first”

  • white castle Posted: Aug.29 at 2:27 pm
i think all these aussies need to watch he got game… no blood no foul

  • riggs Posted: Aug.29 at 2:37 pm

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Aug.29 at 2:45 pm

  • mat smith Posted: Aug.29 at 4:37 pm
dude id forgot about mookie blaylock! well F me, thanks for the reminder (goes to google images for a desktop)

  • Allenp Posted: Aug.29 at 4:38 pm
I read the actual article. Apparently, if you talk trash in Australia, you’re a pork chop and prima donna. Because that’s the main problem the Australian player had with Wade and Lebron. They talked to him. In the case of Wade, the Australian cat was made because Wade didn’t apologize for fouling him. After the physical way the Australians played, I’m a little confused about why he would have expected Wade to foul him. And I saw that play, Wade did not go for his legs.

  • LA Huey Posted: Aug.29 at 4:39 pm
That ‘92 team had some of the greatest known trash-talkers in human history. Bird, Jordan, Chuck…And from my own personal experience, trash-talking is either all in fun or your opponent actually respects you. So take is as a compliment or see if KG and T-Bug can hook you up with some of their old colleagues in the Fun Police.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Aug.29 at 5:08 pm
Don’t call anyone a pork chop around Charles Barkley.

  • Jackie Moon Posted: Aug.29 at 6:11 pm
@Allen P. - I’m from Germany … and China … and Japan … and America … what does it matter? My only point is that if “you win the game, you can carry on however you want” is a poor policy to believe. You’re going to defend that?

  • Bruno Posted: Aug.29 at 7:47 pm
not gonna say anything about arrgant attitudes, c0cky people, not be able to learn by mistakes and etc cause i’m such an easy target here…
just think its funny that THE WHOLE WORLD loves Kobe for the simple fact that he is the best player the world saw after the greatest of all time retired for good.
while, in US, his country, he gets all that “hating” on him.
    funny.. at least.

  • Bruno Posted: Aug.29 at 7:51 pm
    ok, i got it
    it was the c0cky… nevermind

  • floe Posted: Aug.29 at 8:01 pm
ONE MORE REASON TO HATE KOBE

  • Jaylen Rose Posted: Aug.29 at 8:12 pm
my Cousins are american and i’m australian. and from what i’ve been told no one in america knows a thing about australia. Most Australians say that americans are stupid because when asked when 911 occured not one of the 13 people asked could tell the date that 9/11 occured. Team USA are Awesome, but where was Amare, Gil, or Brandon Roy

  • Jaylen Rose Posted: Aug.29 at 9:05 pm
Glen Saville is still a douche

  • RV Posted: Aug.29 at 9:43 pm
Jackie Moon and I already discussed this on the other Kobe post, but like I said then, Kobe was going out of his way to be nice to other teams, while the rest of the USA team pretty much had their game faces on, so its not a surprise they think higher of Kobe.

  • Majic Posted: Aug.29 at 10:35 pm
LETS JUST REMEMBER WORTHINGTON WAS SENT IN ONLY FOR THE REASON TO WIND UP THE US PLAYERS. if we really want to get into sportsmanship then they are far from the best either. “it’s hard to talk trash when you’re down 30.” from Sydney Australia

  • Hursty Posted: Aug.29 at 10:40 pm
Thanks E, BET. ‘Acting like a pork chop’ is just acting the fool and kinda rude. Your not really offended by how their playing/what they’re doing but its sort of annoying, like a girl who obviously likes you but wants you to say something first. You suck it up and deal with it but its just annoying. Sorta childish.

  • mitch Posted: Aug.29 at 10:48 pm
I’m with dave they should have some sort of respect for their opposition instead of trash takling all game. And I’m only 14 go boomers.

  • Hursty Posted: Aug.29 at 10:58 pm
anyways, Houston just traded for Freddy Weis and the knicks got Ewing Junior.

  • Majic Posted: Aug.30 at 12:08 am
i agree there should be respect but when your sending in players for the sole purpose of getting under the oppositions skin in the hope of them doing something stupid then the claim that your opposition is arrogant is a bit hypocritical. Lets remember the boomers were talking more trash throughout the quarter final then any team against the US

  • hank gathers Posted: Aug.30 at 12:24 am
i’m australian and i’m embarrassed to be australian… seriously who the f does saville think he is?? It’s a friggin competition…grow some nuts… I was watching and our commentators (Gaze) was talking smack about Boozer throwing elbows but at the same time was saying “good strong d” anytime an australian player did the same… Man we just suck at ball and can’t handle it…

  • Jackie Moon Posted: Aug.30 at 12:42 am
Big ups, Hank Gathers, Rest in peace.

  • Majic Posted: Aug.30 at 2:21 am
Yeah hank totally agree when the boomers talk smack its ohh there not scared of usa when they talk smack its look at the arrogant americans. Our NBL is allready fallen apart thats the first port of call if were to get aussie ball back up

  • Azz01 Posted: Aug.30 at 2:32 am
Man, i remember back in the day when shane heal and charles barkley got into it at a pre-tournament for the 96 olmpics. When charles undercut him Shane said sonmething along the lines of “You’re a mother f***ing co**sucker, go f*** yourself” Also apparently in a scrap between Andrew Valhov and i think it was Karl Malone or someone similar, Valhov uttered the line “if you want to fight, we’ll fight but you won’t be walking afterwards. Malone backed down. One look at Vlahov and you’ll understand. Dude was menacing, especially when he got those crazy eyes. Amyway the point im making is if you can dish it out then you have to be able to take it. Glen Saville should have just dished it out and taken it waswell and no whining. I remember after that 96 tournament Barkley came out and said he had heaps of respect for the aussie team with the way the competed, played hard and physical and gave it back to the americans.

  • RAINMAN-0 Posted: Aug.30 at 2:37 am
I’m an Aussie, and as much as I think the players on the USA team are cool, I find it very believable that most of them thought they were too good for everyone else, and kobe did the right thing and stayed down to earth…not letting it get to his head.

  • Darksaber Posted: Aug.30 at 5:19 am
Little Shane said that to Chuck? Much respect to him. As for Malone backing down, not surprised, all bluster(muscle) no heart.

  • tash Posted: Aug.30 at 10:30 am
this saville dude has some serious sourgraping issues man.. they were the ones who were running their mouths yapping at team usa all throughout the game, what do they expect, a hug?
i got this for you boomers[whiners] - you know whats worse than throwing forearms and trash talking? getting beat by 31 in front of the world while looking like thUgs. i bet that made your basketball program look good.

  • KA Posted: Aug.30 at 1:38 pm
rest of the guys might be pork chops but Kobe still sucks.

  • zake Posted: Aug.30 at 10:17 pm
    what’s wrong with saville

  • Money Bill Williams Posted: Aug.30 at 11:11 pm
Glen Saville, shame shame shame. he plays for my Hawks but at the same time his comments were unwarranted. Team USA can act like total d*ckheads if they want because they are that much better than the boomers. take it like a man sav. @ Hersey, f*ck you, i’ll give you a fact , 10 out of 10 aussies think you americans like you are c*nts. people like E make comments but then back themselves with a logical argument. You just say you hate all Aussies. You probably hate Asians, Indians and Europeans for the same reason aswell, because they all hate narrow minded racist americans like you

  • Money Bill Williams Posted: Aug.30 at 11:14 pm
Aussies are really coping a spray on here lately from commenters. Seeing as we supposedly make no contribution to the world lets just become american and shoot everyone

  • PorkSword Posted: Aug.30 at 11:27 pm
    BETCATS says:
who cares, he is Australian. The only 2 good things from their are the Crodille Hunter (RIP) and hursty. Tell that to the Milwaukee Bucks GM who drafted Bogut Number 1 and then gave him $70 mil… dumba$$

  • Hursty Posted: Aug.31 at 1:22 am
Money- chill dude. Water off a ducks back man.
@PorkSword-You having a go at me in that? :)

  • Money Bill Williams Posted: Aug.31 at 5:56 am
yer bro sorry you right, I just hate people badmouthing my country for no reason. Water off a ducks back for some

  • BETCATS Posted: Aug.31 at 8:14 am
hey Porksword, what has Bogut done to deserve that? Go back to either Milwauke or Australia and stay off the internet. Its a bad place full of ’smart’ people and ‘basketball’ fans who may know more on certain topics than you. Also Money Bill Willams is cool because he is the only poster who trys to challegne me on a daily bases. That takes b@lls to do, so i guess australia made 3 good things.

  • Money Bill Williams Posted: Aug.31 at 8:56 am
BET, after that comment i will sell you the finest of used cars for a good price, a pickup truck was it?

  • chintao Posted: Sep.1 at 2:13 am
The “except Kobe” has to have some psycho-sexual implications.

  • Hursty Posted: Sep.1 at 2:40 am
LMAO @ GGG comment of the day. :)
At least NZ can hack it though.

  • Money Bill Williams Posted: Sep.1 at 3:12 am
but aus v nz rivalry is plausible while the USA hatred for AUS seems to me to be unwarranted

  • GGG Posted: Sep.1 at 5:09 am
Unity gents (no hard feelings NZ Baller)- need to focus on our respective countries getting better. Whilst I can agree with Saville to some extent he really should talk less to press and shoot some more j’s. Still sh*ts me that Manu got hurt in the first quarter…would have been the game of the series.

  • Hursty Posted: Sep.1 at 7:46 am
Hey Money, check the sh*t I was copping on the Sean Marks/Suns post. Sure it’ll amuse you.

  • Hursty Posted: Sep.1 at 7:47 am
Or Hornets if that works. Whatever floats your boat.

  • Froggiestyle Posted: Sep.1 at 7:56 am
I love how everyone is dog piling on the hapless aussie and no one is pointing out what we all saw – Kobe systematically helped up opposing players EVERY GAME. He was in a great mood, he brought the 1000% right attitude as a baller representing a country in dire need of a make over (world politics is a b*tch and can’t be ignored). You don’t have to like Kobe in the regular season, but to not give credit where credit is due - being a gentleman on the court and showing true sportsman-like conduct – is just showing off how ignorant cats can be. It was nice to see a classy KB for a change – let’s just hope it carries over (with Bynum back he just be in an even better mood).

  • NZ Baller Posted: Sep.1 at 5:47 pm
Not at all GGG, good to finally make some contact with the Aussie crew. Whatever happened to the SLAM forums?

  • GGG Posted: Sep.1 at 7:34 pm
To be honest I rarely post. Always keep an eye out out for Hursty’s comments. Heck I am probably the only the NJ Nets supporter in Perth. I’d wear the hat and people would ask if they were a baseball team….maybe they would make a better baseball team??

  • NZ Baller Posted: Sep.1 at 9:09 pm
I see, are you a Wildcats fan too? Bring back the forum!

  • chintao Posted: Sep.1 at 10:37 pm
@ Froggiestyle - What about Kobe’s shameless “shhhushing” after hitting shots (some big, some not so big). That smacked of taunting. Also, I attended quite a few games. It may be selective memory disorder, but I don’t recall seeing Kobe helping anyone up. Perhaps that’s because Kobe barely played, due to foul trouble and horrendous shot selection….

  • Dacre Posted: Sep.1 at 11:04 pm
there are two slang uses of the expression pork chop – both American in origin According to the Macquarie Dictionary it means “behaving in a silly manner”. But, why? Well, there are two slang uses of the expression pork chop – both American in origin. From the 1940s in the US pork chop was a nickname for a full-time union official. It was a contemptuous expression. It implied that such union officials were self-interested – in the job for what they could get out of it. Port chop is also recorded from the 1970s as black American slang for an African American who still has the subservient ideology of the Old South. Of those two I suspect that “carrying on like a pork chop” derives from the union official – with the added implication of being useless and a waste of space.

  • Dacre Posted: Sep.1 at 11:12 pm
So…Its an AMERICAN PHRASE TO START WITH!!! LOL

  • Froggiestyle Posted: Sep.2 at 2:57 am
yes the shushing was weak and made me cringe - lawd knows he’s not the only one to put on a little extra showtime mentality - but what you gon do. Seriously go back and watch some games he helped other teams players up consistently - as they way it should be. peace and hair grease

  • Hursty Posted: Sep.2 at 4:14 am

  • chintao Posted: Sep.5 at 3:12 am
@ Froggiestyle==> You have no reason to lie, so I’ll take your word for it. Nevertheless, it’s hard for me to reconcile this idea with my impression of Kobe.
