Flag-Bearer Dirk?

If Nowitzki’s fans have their way, Dirk will carry his country’s flag in Beijing.

I’m guessing he’s probably the most prominent german athlete at the games. So it’s cool, but hardly surprising.

  • Jukai Posted: Jul.31 at 2:21 pm
*obvious joke about Dirk choking and dropping the flag*

  • Darksaber Posted: Jul.31 at 2:25 pm
Jukai, shut up and go choke on your Big mac.

  • Nick Posted: Jul.31 at 2:51 pm
Dirk put the German team on his back to get to the Olympics, stop killin this dude

  • Darksaber Posted: Jul.31 at 2:54 pm
    My Sentiments exactly Nick.

  • Mo Charlo Posted: Jul.31 at 3:08 pm
I will never, ever stop killing Dirk. He’s Uncle Ruckus’s favorite player, if you know what that means.

  • namik Posted: Jul.31 at 3:10 pm
    testing

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Jul.31 at 3:25 pm
without CHRIS KAMAN the dirk”led” german team would have been demolished.

  • Darksaber Posted: Jul.31 at 3:33 pm
Oh yeah, sure, this is researched expert opinion from your part Tarzan? Did you even SEE the mini tournament in Athens two weeks ago? i was in the gym for 3 games, and from what i saw in the loss against Croatia, and the shaky games against New Zealand (of all places) and Brasil, Kaman needs some FIBA seasoning before he can dictate the gameflow, let alone be such an X-factor. He was above average, but nothing a Combo of Fermeling / Schulze / Okulaja (out with back spasms) couldn’t have contributed. Out of all tournaments i saw Diggler play in, this one meant the most to him, by far. His dream (even more than an Nba title) has always been to take part in the olympics. His whole family are sports fanatics (Volleyball, track & field, tennis) so believe me, Dirk Werner Nowitzki LED that team to the final spot for Beijing.

  • Darksaber Posted: Jul.31 at 3:37 pm
And he better be the one to carry that Flag in (who else is there, the handball freaks? their substandard track&fielders? one of the soccer juniors? a swimmer? Lord forbid).

  • Holy Baller Posted: Jul.31 at 3:47 pm
    Dirk still sucks

  • Nick Posted: Jul.31 at 3:53 pm
    Dirk has never sucked

  • d.Y. Posted: Jul.31 at 3:58 pm
    Wurzburg represent! (whatup Dopezen, Craftsman!)

  • Samaki Walker Posted: Jul.31 at 4:19 pm
Mavs noobs, meet Michael Ballack. Unlike some, he is not a wuss.

  • Holy Baller Posted: Jul.31 at 4:34 pm
Dirk may not suck but he isn’t NBA star material

  • Jukai Posted: Jul.31 at 5:02 pm
You’re right Holy Baller, the former MVP, seven time all star, twenty two point career player is not star material. Deffinitely not.

  • Jukai Posted: Jul.31 at 5:04 pm
There are plenty of long range players who shoot 50-40-90. Plennnnnnty.

  • speedy Posted: Jul.31 at 5:26 pm
It’s great for Dirk that his work ethic has brought him and the german national team to the olympics.
He’s playing for his country nearly every summer since joining the league , that’s something most NBA stars would never do because the body never gets a rest in the offseason .
Respect and congratulation to a big sportsman .

  • Captain America Posted: Jul.31 at 5:38 pm
Dirk should come in wearing pink leotards and shaking pom-poms

  • chase Posted: Jul.31 at 5:48 pm
    hahaha not funny Captain America,
Dirk deserves alot of credit for what he did

  • Yknot Posted: Jul.31 at 5:56 pm
That’s right chase, besides one of the German womens swim team could easily carry the flag and a whole lot more for Dirk. Perhaps a jock strap.

  • speedy Posted: Jul.31 at 6:06 pm
    @Captain America
So you want him to look like you.
Give yourself another name before you talk about leotards.

  • GermanMavsFan Posted: Jul.31 at 6:55 pm
    hooooooooooorah

  • blue Posted: Jul.31 at 9:10 pm
I can’t believe Dirk’s accomplishment of taking this team to the Olympics is being discussed here. Right now he basically IS German Basketball. He IS the Mavericks, too. I am still hoping the Mavs will deal braindead Josh Howard … Go Dirk, take that flag and enjoy your time, maybe you can even win a game or two …

  • The Ghost of Wilt Chamberlain Posted: Jul.31 at 9:33 pm
There should be no argument - Dirk should carry the flag. Also, I find it humorous that people continue to falt players in the NBA. Who are you to make judgements on people who are obviously far superior to yourself? Enjoy the game, all it’s players and quit the wining and arguments!

  • Holy Baller Posted: Jul.31 at 11:01 pm
I think everyone knows that Dirk should not have won MVP. I mean look at his stats that year compared to other players. They pale in comparison to LeBrons, yet he won. And he still is a really good player, I just don’t see how he is really a superstar. And I should have used the word superstar. My bad. You are right, he is a star, just not a superstar.

  • wendy Posted: Aug.1 at 3:20 am
    Holy Baller,
Could you please tell me the name of ONE team, just ONE, that wouldn´t want to have Dirk on his team? Hm? BTW, a terrific Nowitzki interwiew in the FAZ yesterday, for those of you who speak German. According to Dirk, after the Golden State series altered his fade away a little bit - leaning back more, so it is practically unguardable. He also said that he revolutionized the 4-position ‘a little’.

  • The Greek Posted: Aug.1 at 3:55 am
I think Nowitzkis should pull a Kobe, nickname himself. His nick should be “The Net Burning Nazi”. Then he would be feared and not seen as soft.

  • Yann Blavec Posted: Aug.1 at 9:23 am
And Baron Davis will carry the Star Spangled Banner. HAHAHA.

  • underdog Posted: Aug.1 at 9:46 am
Holy Baller you should cut the BS. Dirk isn’t NBA material? Please.

  • Jukai Posted: Aug.1 at 10:47 am
Holy Baller says this dumb crap all the time. ALL THE TIME. You just have to nod your head and pat him on the back like a retarted cousin

  • Jukai Posted: Aug.1 at 10:48 am
I think Holly Baller once told me that Rasheed was better than Dirk. Just laughable.

  • blue Posted: Aug.1 at 11:09 am
Thanks guys for supporting my points. I would just wish y’all could come to Germany and see what’s going on when Dirk enters the scene. People just go crazy. Nobody is saying that Kobe or LeBron ain’t superstars - of course they are. I can agree with everybody who states a case for Bron or Kobe as MVP the year Dirk won. Actually I believe a starting lineup All Star spot would mean a lot more to him - recognition by the fans. That´s just the kind of guy he is.
