A very brief update on SLAM’s HS Diary keeper.
Those of you who still read the quaint, old-fashioned print version of the magazine that this website is based on should be aware that, since its earliest days, SLAM has featured a monthly Basketball Diary written by a top high school basketball player. This year’s Diary keeper is Tyreke Evans. He’s arguably the best player in the Class of 2008. He’s also got a lot going on in his life.
By any defintion, Reke’s had a hell of a year: Off-court drama, family loss, injuries, and of course, ridiculous amounts of pressure and attention when he’s got the ball in his hands. Mostly, he’s handled it impressively, especially on the court.
Anyway, Reke’s gonna be on TV tonight, leading his American Christian squad against St. Anthony of New Jersey, which is ranked No. 1 in the country. Game time is 9 pm. Eastern on that one cable network that has lots of sports. Do check it out.

And Cub, yeah, it wasn’t pretty. That was one great player (and a couple of good ones) against a very well-coached and polished squad. I didn’t even bother watching the second half.
