Kobe to ATL

Let’s start a new rumor…

by Lang Whitaker

Thought it worth pointing out that with all the talk about Allen Iverson being traded, perhaps to the Hawks, look who was at the same Atlanta nightclub (low here) this weekend as AI: Kobe Bryant.

Now, I thought Kobe was in Las Vegas, where he said he was going to be supporting Team USA after he surprised everyone by having knee surgery two weeks ago. Now he’s clubbing in the ATL with AI. Yee-uh!

And since we’re talking about Kobe, Linkstigator Stu writes…
You may have thought of this, i may have missed it somewhere, but as you know, there’s the “his old HS number” theory, the “picking up where MJ left off (23)” theory, but i have one of my own…
Kobe’s first solo cover, anywhere? Slam 24.
He’s so odd that it might really mean something to him that you guys showed him respect before anyone else jumped on the wagon, and continue to show him love. Sure, the theory is as kooky as hell, but just as believable given the subject matter.

Well, I guess it’s believable. I don’t believe it, though.

I thought his old HS number was 33 at Lower Merion?

  • Isaiah Posted: Jul.24 at 4:25 pm
I always thought that he changed his number because after the trial it was like it was a new kobe with the tattoos and all. So to commemorate this split, he split his number 8 into 2 4s.

  • Pawnograffiti Posted: Jul.24 at 4:54 pm
I’m just glad he hasn’t taken the number 1, Not taking a Dig at TMac but the fact that your a high scorer who doesn’t like to pass and your donning the number 1 jersey leaves me shaking my head and thinking of other motives. I guess the underlining motive that keeps coming to my mind with Kobe changing jersey number is that his greedy and he wants a new cash revenue for his cut on jersey sales (Could we see KB24 take the lead from Dwade for best jersey sale in 2007?- Could it be something personal?)

  • MrTweaks Posted: Jul.24 at 5:41 pm
The fact that Kobe was at the same party as AI…is not a good enough reason to make a “KOBE to ATL” link….my word.As for the number thing,i think it’s just part of Kobe’s childish-side wich we all love…or hate.Bigger than MJ being probably the first thing in his mind-at least that’s the number i had in highschool, for the exact same reason ;)

  • Scott Posted: Jul.24 at 6:59 pm
Kobe wore 24 in his first years of H.S., but changed to 33 later. Wow, AI, Kobe, and Jeezy at a club?

  • Joe_X Posted: Jul.24 at 7:24 pm
This is so not the topic of the original post, but… Kobe just loves to be so mysterious and cool. Who gives a poo why he changed his number? It’s just a number. Kobe’s a child.

  • Max Airington Posted: Jul.24 at 8:20 pm
    What about STAT?

  • Mighty Posted: Jul.24 at 9:21 pm
kobe should wear 43 meaning 4 is the number of SHaq’s rings while 3 is his….lol!

  • I.Favors Posted: Jul.24 at 9:39 pm
Hears a rumor, Steve Francis to Bostom for Kedrick Perkins.

  • Clay Posted: Jul.24 at 11:35 pm
Maybe he was trying to convince AI to come play in LA… I don’t think that would work out real well. You really only want one ball hog per team. I really can’t see Kobe leaving LA or changing his number. He needs to wake up to himself & play some team basketball… 81 points, what’s he tryin to prove!

  • Andrew Daniels Posted: Jul.25 at 12:20 am
i think the whole number change will b good 4 kobe since im 1 of his biggest fans and i think it will get back on top of jersey sales i already ordered two #24 jerseys costumized from nba.com and this is b4 im even sure if he’ll wear it, i duess u could say im a pretty devoted fan

  • Kobe Posted: Jul.25 at 1:48 am
Slam gives Kobe love? Sorry but i dont see it considering the haterade lang has been drinking in the past few years.

  • Pawnograffiti Posted: Jul.25 at 2:01 am
If Kobe was to change his jersey number to take on the persona of scoring champion idols. wearing the 24 is better then 23. For every Jrich or LeBron that wants to be Air Jordan, There’s not enough kids wearing 24 to be like Rick Barry or Jack Bauer. Whilst Jordan may have ANSWERED his critics, Bauer and Barry have been known to SILENCED there critics (Do you know the difference)

  • Skizzle Posted: Jul.25 at 2:02 am
Here is my take on KB’s new number. After dropping 81 on T-Dot and cementing his legacy as one of the top dawgs of the Slam Era, he wanted to do a little somethin somethin to honor the man who was “defending” him most of the game. That man: Morris Peterson #24

  • Hoa Truong Posted: Jul.25 at 2:28 pm
We all know that cuz they’re changing thier number cuz dey know we’ll buy it. =P

  • jay broder Posted: Jul.25 at 5:25 pm
my thoughts are this..why is he not in vegas is beyond me! i a huge kob fan but if your captain..you should be their with coach k supporting the boys. unless he had nike stuff to take care of in the atl i have no idea why you are there! as for the number change..24?? i guess one better than mj and sell more jerseys…he will bo back to 8 i guess!

  • raGy S Posted: Jul.26 at 1:07 pm
naw the reason kobe changed his number to 24 is because this season hell b three times betta bayby chek it 8 x 3= *24*

  • maddness Posted: Jul.27 at 5:04 pm
i thought he picked 24, because MJ was 23, and he wants to be better than MJ

  • leon lewis Posted: Jul.27 at 6:22 pm
It would not matter to me because Kobe would be the best either way it goes. So if Kobe changes his number to #24, I would just think of him to be the best hooper in this time and age!!!!

  • Bobby Stanley Posted: Jul.28 at 1:21 pm
24 was kobes dads old number and kobe to Atlanta? him with jsmooth jj and marv…

  • Homero Salazar Posted: Jul.28 at 3:50 pm
The only reason he chose to change his number was because jordan changed his number from 23 to 45 and he wants to do the same thing, from 8 to 24. He says he changed it to 24 because he balls 24 7 when we was a guest on TNT after he lost game 7 to the suns but thats a load of crap. Also 24 is 1 more than 23 so maybe he wants to hint that hes better than Jordan. He’s just mad that all the Jordan and Kobe comparisons stopped when LeBron entered the league that he’s looking for that “crown” again. But all in all Kobe is the best and all you haters just hate cuz he’s tha best. But a note to Kobe, just becasue you get the Jordan comparisons dosen’t mean your the next him. No one will ever be. GET USED TO IT! EVERYONE! THAT MEANS LEBRON AND WADE AND IVERSON AND T-MAC. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER MJ23! LONG LIVE THE REAL KING!

  • Get over it Posted: Jul.29 at 4:27 pm
He is changing it to 24 because 2+4=6 and if he hits two threes in a row thats six points and if you add his old number to his new one 8+24=32 and he really idolizes Magic Johnson then if you add one more because he’s the #1 scorer in the NBA it’s a tribute to Kareem. Then of course the obvious that you take his new number 24 and add it like we did at first 2+4=6 and because he has 3 rings it’s more like 666 and this year Kobe will bring to pass the end of the world. I’m surprised nobody else picked up on this, it’s super obvious.

Kobe to A-TOWN would be tight but it aint gonna happen

  • Danny J Posted: Jul.29 at 7:07 pm
    comparison between mj and kobe
1 (the tounge) mj first now kobe
2(the wrist band) in the same place as mj and same arm
3(the hair) mike from a low cut to baldy. kobe from fro to cut
    4(the jersy) mj from 23 to 45 to 23. kb from 8 to 24 to 8 eventually
    5 etc.

  • jeremy l Posted: Jul.30 at 12:25 pm
how many cocks does jordan have, because he seems to have it in all your mouths, what an embarrassment kobe gets crap when he scores 81, he gets crap when he scores 28, 11, and 6 by the way, jordan lost to the celtics when he put up a career high, but somehow that performance is celebrated, kobe scores 81 and people complain that he only had 1 assist isiah didn’t shake hands with the bulls, but that was just part if his bad boy reputation, kobe doesn’t shake the suns hands, and he’s a punk give the guy a break, because in 10 years when he is retired, you’ll realize just how great of a player he was, and will become

  • CuriousGeorge Posted: Aug.1 at 2:50 am
I clicked on the link. and i saw nothing regarding kobe and ai at at club in atlanta.

  • TyEsha Posted: Aug.10 at 5:49 pm
I’m a huge fan of Kobe Bryant, not just because he is the greatest basketball player since Magic, MJ, Bird, Isaiah, etc. but also because he is just himself. Whether you hate him or love him, he’s always going to be the assassin that kills on the court and might show a little cockiness or passion while he’s doing it. Now even thought I’m a little mad at the fact that he’s changing his already legendary #8 jersey, I respect the fact that he is maturing as a person and feels he wants to make a change by changing his jersey number> It has nothing to do with him being a cocky guy who wants to me just like MJ. Give me a brake! The only thing people should be discussing is whether the Lakers organization will retire his #8 or #24; or maybe both?

  • MAMBA24 4LIFE Posted: Aug.16 at 6:32 pm
I WANT ALL THE MJ23 TALK TO STOP THE OLD GUY ISNT EVEN PLAYING ANYMORE AND EVERYONE IS STILL LICKING HIS BALLS JUST STOP AND THINK OF WHO IS PLAYING IN THE L. HUH KB24MAMBA THE BEST IN WEST/AND THE L. 81 POINTS COME ON A LITTLE BIT OF RESPECT DAMN MJ NEVER GOT 81 POINTS AND EVERYONE TREATS HIM LIKE A GOD!!!

  • somedude Posted: Sep.13 at 10:42 pm
bron-bron and dwade got kb8 a little shook that’s all. he’ll get over it when the losses start becoming regular. he’ll be fine.
    HE’S RICH BITCH!!!!!!!!!

  • tupac Posted: Sep.15 at 10:16 pm
amare stoudemire is back in the league!!!! and by the way kobe is the greatest

  • MD Shuai Posted: Oct.12 at 2:54 am
MJ gets respect because he never acted like a spoiled little brat and forced the reason the team won the three championships out of town just so he could be the “man.” Kobe’s a great player with tons of talent, but everyone hates him because he is so transparantly trying to be someone he is not, just so people have a certain image of him. MJ was genuine. And Jordan’s 63 points was in his 2nd season, against the best team in the NBA at the Garden. Kobe’s 81 was at home against one of the worst teams in the NBA in his 8th season. By the way, by his 8th season Jordan was the unquestioned best player in the league; that campaign was led by Magic Johnson, not by Jordon, too. You know you’re good when the the man who was the man before you were the man acknowledges that you now are the man and he isn’t. The man…

  • Sage Posted: Oct.16 at 1:30 pm
All these Kobe haters are just stupid. I LOVE how people forget how SELFISH Jordan was. He put up 28 shots a game in the 86-87 season, 29 shots per 40 minutes in his short season before that, put up 24 shots in his second season, horace grant called him selfish. You haters don’t realize jordan caused the same problems kobe did, yet you’re all on his nuts. I love Jordan, more than these posers do, which is why I know this. Plus Kobe’s initial situation was completely different than Jordan’s. Jordan started out number 1, Kobe didnt. If Jordan was in Kobe’s position he would’ve bitched too, but he started out as number 1 and matured into the great player he became. Kobe is now learning like Jordan did and he will go through the same changes. Can you blame Kobe for wanting Shaq out? Kobe is at the stage where he doesn’t want to be the scottie pippen and live under shaq’s shadow his whole career. With his potential, why would you want to be under somebody’s shadow your whole career? Pippen didn’t want that either if you remember correctly. You want to prove that you can do it on your own, there’s nothing wrong with that…all the great players in the league want to do that. Kobe is becoming a great leader in case you didnt watch the end of last season and the playoffs so everyone just get off his back and watch him progress even further than he already has next season.

  • Sage Posted: Oct.16 at 1:38 pm
Oh btw, here’s the answer to the jersey change http://www.kb24.com/ Another thing…he may have done it to say that he can be better than jordan, who knows? You know Lebron is thinking the same thing too, its just that he’s never going to say it. Its the thing you have to love about Kobe…he’s never afraid to voice his opinion and he’s got such a great love for the game that you dont see from other superstars…he’s always out to prove something and could care less what other people think of him. He feeds off the negative attention…he’s no A-Rod. I dont think thats the main reason for the change anyway. I think it’s because he wants to show that he’s changed and is a leader now. The thing he has to learn now, is when to take over the game and when to be unselfish and get everyone else involved. That was his problem in the suns series. He never took over in game 7 like he should have.

  • Shane Posted: Oct.21 at 11:13 pm
ok now jordan was a trash talker and stuff on the court. but you need to be to be good. but have you ever heard any of jordans teamates say anythign bad about him or any of them say they didnt like him. .no sir beucase he was genuine off the court. even the people he talked trash to liked him. they knew it was jsut somethign he did on the court.he was just a trash talker to get in peoples head. no other reason. and kobe allways has the 1 teamate he dosen’t get along with(or the coach)

  • Sage Posted: Oct.23 at 12:54 pm
When Jordan was younger, yes, there were some teammates that did not like Jordan because he did not trust his teammates believe it or not (horace grant as mentioned before. Doug Collins didn’t want to even coach him because he was so selfish at that point in his career, so he just left. But then Jordan learned from those mistakes and was all the better for it. Thats my whole point. Kobe is going through the same thing now and will become all the better for it. He wont have as easy a time with the media that jordan did, as evidenced by this forum, but he’ll eventually be respected for his coming around.
