Dumb move by the sixers if they do it. Thaddeus Young is emerging and plays Smooves’ same position. Plus iggy cant shoot, and Jiosh really can’t either. They’d be fun to watch but…probably won’t have anymore success than they did last year.

My hometown team is a disgrace….and I thought Ed Stefanski would make all the right moves.

Rasheedionics says:
Why Khalid? With Baron Davis and Arenas off the market, Josh Smith is the best Free Agent left. Why shouldn’t they go after him? Because his game is similar to AI? I say you still try to get him, if it doesn’t work out for some reason, I don’t think Sixers will have any trouble in trading him. Josh Smith is young and still getting better. He’s on the verge of stardom. You just don’t pass up on a chance to get a player like that even if doesn’t perfectly fit the Sixers team. To me it’s a win win situation.

So who on the Sixers frontline can knock down a J on a consistent basis if this deal goes down?

Jul.2 at 3:39 pm

Rasheedionics says:
AI is 47% FG career shooter which is pretty damn. And he’s getting better. I don’t understand why the frontline need to have a jumpshooter? Thats what guards are for. The point is, Sixers would be a better team with Josh Smith than without him.

Jul.2 at 3:44 pm

Holy Baller says:
Andre is a 47% career shooter because half of his shots are dunks. His FG% would be sh!t if he didn’t have those dunks. And none of their guards can shoot. They need to go after someone who can shoot the J. I still don’t understand why they got rid of Korver.

Jul.2 at 3:46 pm

Holy Baller says:
And everyone has seen what happens when you get people just to get them and don’t care about team chemistry and such. The Knicks have sucked for the last few years because of stupid draft picks, bad coaching, and no team chemistry.

first off Dre’s game is nothing like Josh Smith. The only thing the have in common is highlight reel dunks. Dre is a perimeter defender and a slashing, ball-handling swingman on offense. Josh Smith is an interior defender (second in the league in blocks) and inside out player on the offensive end. Point blank with J. Smith the have the most athletic five in the league and with him and Sammy D there will be a block party every night.

The Sixers would be better off doing a sign of Iggy to Utah for AK47.

C-Mac says:
if they signed smith and played him as an undersized 4 they would hav a nice line up who can play some dam good defence
miller
young/williams
iguodala
smith
dalembert

Jul.3 at 3:01 am

Kevin says:
Iguodala + Smith are different versions of almost the same player :S :S both are supremely talented, but this is a bit dumb.. two guys with all the intangibles, but who lack the clutch/dependable scoring instinct a closer needs.. doh

Jul.3 at 3:04 am

Kevin says:
i mean, yea, they’d be great on D with Miller (good defender), AI, Josh Smith & Sammy D.. but let’s say its 89-90 with 1 minute left - who becomes your clutch scorer.. Andre Miller?! at this point it’s him or Louis Williams (who incidentally might be a damn good closer by the time nex year rolls around, or in a few years, mind you)

Jul.3 at 6:52 am

Lz - Cphfinest3 says:
Smith will be an All-Star for the next 6+ years and is already one of the best defenders and finishers (remember the 6′ers play uptempo) in the L, I say sign him. He’s mos def on the rise. True though that they need shooters real bad.

Jul.3 at 8:48 am

cb#34 says:
The sixers won a lot of close games against some good basketball teams. And I watched Dre, Andre Miller and Lou Williams hit a lot of clutch shots down the stretch. They definitely need a guy that can flat out shoot the three(maybe Carney will improve?) But I never saw too many problem getting big buckets down the stretch. We may have had problems in the half court set during the course of games but generally when teams go straight man down the stretch we have success.

Rasheedionics says:
Just because Josh Smith is not a great shooter, doesn’t mean Sizers shouldn’t try to get him. Obviously, Josh Smith wouldn’t be a missing piece of the puzzle. He’ll be just of the important pieces. It’s much easier to find a shooter in free agency then a guy like Josh Smith. I thought that would be so obvious.

Jul.3 at 10:39 am

Ohpityme says:
Theyd still have CAP to get a shooter, so why not sign him.

Jul.3 at 10:43 am

Westy00 says:
Smith is not a great defender. He’s a freak athlete that swats shots from the weak side. Don’t get me wrong, that’s awesome, but don’t get it confused with grade A defense. He won’t lock players down.

Chandler9 says:
first, iggy and josh smith do NOT have the same game. iggys a swing 2/3 and josh is a (bit undersized) 4. thaddeus young played 4 last yr but is a natural 3. i’d love to sign josh, move thad to 3 and let iggy go (sign n trade). then they’d have cap room for a shooter which they always seem to need.
