Ron Artest and His Regrets

by Marcel Mutoni

When the clock struck midnight on July 1, and the free agency period officially kicked off, all hell predictably broke loose. Guys opted out of their deals, teams threw insane amounts of money at them, and those who didn’t opt out were left shaking their heads in disbelief.

Ron Artest, for instance.

“I don’t see myself with [the] Kings beyond 2008-09.”

“I think I made the biggest mistake by staying in my contract and I have to live with it,” Artest said. “I had some misleading information [in making the] decision on not opting out. [But] I still thank God for all his blessings and being able to play basketball and help people.”

Ron Artest’s agent must be one convincing SOB if he got his client to truly believe that a team was willing to offer him a deal on par with the ones Baron, Gilbert, et al are receiving.

Not to worry, Ron. Your crack at free agency and its untold riches is only a short 12 months away.

The headline of this post implies a list that even the Internet doesn’t have the capacity for.

As if we needed another reason to prove that Ron Ron is not “all there”.

He doesn’t need the money anyway. He can always fall back on his record management career.

I was expecting something juicier than this.

Ron Artest is a nut….oh well…i still want him on the Lakers…

Ron says:
Dude should have opted out. No one is going to spend money next year when Lebron, Wade and the restr will available a year after that. Ron might have missed on the chance at a contract worth about 10 mil per.

knick’s needs him

There’s just not that much free agent $ available this year. Gilbert and baron getting huge deals is more a function of those players marketability than their value as basketball players. On the real, Gil is NOT a max player (right now atleast) but he is an excellent marketing tool for their team.

ciolkstar says:
Artest isn’t close to either of those guys in terms of marketing. be easy Ron Ron you can come to the Spurs next year. Personality-wise it might be a mismatch but he would be a beast at the 4 with Tim back at the 5.

Sam Mitchell's Conscience says:
I really stopped caring about Artest after about 2006. I always used to think he was just misunderstood. But now I think he’s just one crazy dumba$$

Brandon Hoffman says:
Cheer up Ron-Ron. Your team will be nowhere near playoff contention when the trade deadline approaches. At that point, the Maloofs will be forced to trade you to a contender.

DENVER NUGGETS!

Jul.2 at 9:18 pm

Dacre says:
@ BUBBA___
Your using the term ‘contender’ rather lossely there for the Nuggets aren’t you???
^_^
He should just stay with the Kings because they have a solid young team…The kind of age group that smacks of optimism and high speed adventure (if your Derrick Rose maybe…).

Russ Bengtson says:
They should trade him NOW. The Kings won’t even be in the top 10 out West.

Hursty says:
bottom 5 Russ. oh wait…

TripleDouble says:
Ron Ron’s agent will surely tell dude to chill… if he lifts his numbers again next season, then this time next year dude will get his money. Especially if he has another quiet year on the controversy side of things and just plays solid ball. Fngers crossed for him.

Artest is just a crazy muthafuc*er. I always thought he was misunderstood, people didn’t see the other side, but nope, he’s a certified nut. No homo.

Jul.3 at 3:23 am

Dacre says:
Russ… I’ll take that bet.
Sactown WILL be top 10 out West next season. (seeing as seattle doesnt even exist anymore…) its a start.
