Can they sign Maggette and still keep Posey? Because if they can’t can the Lakers have him….
Jul.2 at 1:10 pm
RV says:
i dont believe they can sign both, but if Ainge had his way, wouldn’t he want posey ot stay instead? He’s been calling him and begging him to stay
Jul.2 at 1:12 pm
RV says:
i didn’t think he’d take the paycut, but apparently he’s open to it, i thin posey will leave and maggette is in
Vortex Knight says:
Why would the Celts take Maggette over Posey? Isn’t Maggette redundant with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen? If Posey does decide to bolt, I guess the C’s need someone else to anchor the bench, but would Maggette accept that role?
Rasheedionics says:
They need someone like Maggette for regular season. Celtics would rather not play Ray Allen and Pierce 40 minutes a night entire regular season, so the guy like Maggette would be great addition since he can play both 2 and 3. You saw how tired big 3 looked in Playoffs. Those guys are old. I just dont see them playing big minutes in regular season.

Mageete’s D sucks. Not only individually but even during the Clip’s playoff run a coupla years back, the guy regularly blew defensive assignments. Not good for a team predicated on playing relentless pressure D.Plus have you seen the guy ball?? I mean sure the Celtic’s O isn’t the most complex in the Lig but damn,Mags isn’t the sharpest tack in the bunch. The guy doesn’t pass the rock EVER and makes the most egregious TO’s.Bad move for the C’s..

first things first. KEEP POSEY!!!! maggette said it himself that its not always about money. so if he can take a paycut and come to boston, that would be great. he’ll backup ray ray or pierce. as for tony allen, it just might be the end. lets us take time to enjoy the good things of tony allen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKjzKCPiCWg
personally, if they can sign maggette and posey, get birdman for some cheap cash, i could care less about allen. no offense, i like the guy, but his time in boston is up.

They can’t sign both Posey and Maggette. If Ainge has his way, this gunner will be somewhere else. This is strictly a, “Just in case Posey leaves,” type offer and nothing more.

Z says:
Wow, you guys are GRILLING Maggette! I’m not saying is a superstar but he’s still good for 22 and 6 and he’s a 80% ft shooter who creates a lot of contact. Defense is contagious, he’ll pick it up. Pierce and Allen were always killed about their D prior to this season.
Jul.2 at 4:40 pm
RV says:
I agree with Z, maggette definitely has the size and speed to play good D, but he’s always played big minutes, been injured, and spent a lot of energy on drives and probably didn’t focus enough on it in the past.

I think everyone is missing the real question… a MLE offer for a 22-and-5 player? Methinks that’s not the type of deal he’s opting out for.

It could be something worthwhile to them… he is young enough to still get probable increases in his stat line, where as I couldn’t expect Allan or Posey to get better next year….imagine maggette ADDING a defensive quality to his game? Could be a BIG addition…DOES HE WANT SMALL MONEY THOUGH…? Thats the issue. He wants good money at the end of the day…. He doesnt strike me as someone who is hell bent on getting a championship right now….maybe in 3 years he would be. But he “WANTS” $$$.

You mean Maggette could be coming to Boston?! That would be awesome, KG, the Truth, Ray Ray, and Maggette. Sweet. Though Cs should should make a deal where they get to keep Pose without over paying Maggette. That would be a great move.
Jul.3 at 12:15 am
celtics=champs says:
Though, a difficult deal to plot tough. I’m not really sure how the Cs will plot around all of the neccesary pieces Boston has. Hope they pull it off without demising themselves.
Jul.3 at 12:58 am
neaorin says:
@RV: paycut, sure… but if he wants a deal starting at 11 mil, as reported, do you really think he’d take half that, even from the Celtics? I think they need to at least be in the same ballpark. Anyway, I believe Posey has more value to the C’s than Maggette.
Jul.3 at 1:37 am
RV says:
@neaorin: he specifically said he’d take the paycut for the celtics and i don’t have any reason to believe he’s a liar so I guess I have to believe him. I think its a situation where he is settled down in LA so he figured if he’s gonna stay there and keep losing might as well get paid big, but even he said he was surprised Boston had interest so he didn’t have a reason to consider a paycut before, plus he can always sign a one year and then try to get more later.

i mean P double, Ray Ray and KG are not selfish but how would they share the shots?
why not ship him to new jersey or somewhere that needs a small forward?
Jul.3 at 6:00 am
neaorin says:
@RV: in pro sports, a paycut is defined as maybe 10% off the biggest offer, 15% if you’re feeling generous. He said he’d take A paycut to play for them, not THE paycut the Celtics’ current offer is implying… Yeah, I’m curious who’s going to give him a deal starting at 11 million, but if someone like GS or Memphis offers him something like 4 years, 36 million, he won’t be signing any MLE deals IMO.
