Chris Paul Agrees to Extension
No major surprises here: CP3 and the Hornets have agreed to a three-year extension for the wunderkind point God.
The deal is estimated at $68 million, which will push Paul’s yearly salary starting in 2009-10 to more than $20 million per season, Under NBA rules, Paul cannot sign the deal until July 9.
“The deal is done,'’ said [agent Lance Young], who declined to go into more specifics regarding the deal.
As the article notes, this is a similar deal to the one LeBron famously signed two years ago. Smart business move on Paul’s part; the summer of 2011 should be quite an eventful one.

You mean he too can opt out and become a UFA? Clearly he plans to go to NY. Or LA. Get ready for 35494723476 articles on that.

Byron Scott and Phil Jackson’s contracts expire at the same time(2010). If Phil chooses to retire, Byron and Lakers assistant Kurt Rambis would be the most logical replacements. I wonder if that factored into Chris’ decision? I know it’s something I would have considered. Byron is a great coach…

The Hornets could be playing just about anywhere by 2011.

Dud I miss something? Why Russ? I thought later in the season they were finally able to get a crowd for their games.

I think they are making a huge mistake extending Chris Paul. A note to long-suffering Hornets fans: Don’t get caught in the Chris Paul pipe dream. The best CP3 can ever be is an average NBA player.

And by average I mean very, very good.

Moose: we’re crowning people already? If you want to crown them, go ahead and crown their asses. BUT THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE.
DoubleR: I got your initial sarcasm. I guess I thought your sarcasm didn’t extend to the part about CP3 being “very very good” because regardless of the number of adverbs in front of that adjective, “good” doesn’t do Chris Paul justice.

Kevin Wilson says:
Moose, the Spurs exposed the Hornets’ one flaw … they don’t have a scoring two-guard who can create his own shot, and they have yet to address it. They’re not going to be playing in the NBA Finals if guys like Jannero Pargo are deciding their playoff fates.

Moose says:
if they want to address the shooting guard dilemma then they should try for monta ellis. maybe it’ll work.

Not a smart investment, New Orleans might not even exist by 2011. Give it up for global warming!
