Brand Assured that Iguodala Will Stay Put
When Elton Brand spurned the Clippers and made his way towards the eastern seaboard, nearly everyone immediately penciled the Sixers into one of the top two spots in the Atlantic Division.
For Philly to seriously challenge Boston, though, Andre Iguodala will definitely have to be part of the long-term picture.
Word on the street is that Brand’s former team (among others) is interested in his gravity-defying teammate, but Elton isn’t too worried. Upper management has given him certain assurances. From the Philly Inquirer:
“That’s a guy we have to have,” said Brand, who repeated: “Management has let me know they’ll match any offer.”
Feel free to jump on the Sixer bandwagon now, kids. There aren’t too many seats remaining.

big queston: Why couldnt they have gotten Elton Brand or a player of his calliber (Chris Webber’s knees were dead when they got him from the Queens) when a young man who wore number 3 was on the team?

Yeah, the same way Baron was assured that Brand would remain a Clipper. GAWD, I hope Iggy goes to the Clips.

Rasheedionics says:
Sixers is a long way to being a top team in the East even if they retain Iggy. They still got too many holes on their roster. Dalembert can’t even make Canadian national team. What does that tell you? They don’t have a shooting guard and virtually no bench. And if they don’t re-sign Louis Williams, they’re in trouble unless Philly is content with annual first round exit.

Joel O's says:
Come on, even with Iguodala they aren’t gonna “challenge” Boston. The way things are they aren’t even at the Raptors or the Magic’s level yet. But Iguodala is an excellent second guy. They’ve got plenty of muscle inside, too. If they can add some shooters and a scorers they’ll be all right.

They still need shooters. Iggy won’t help spread the floor. Neither will Miller.

@ Joel O’s: they’ll definitely challenge boston. and thats coming from a celtics fan. garnett pierce and allen are getting older, and they wont be able to perform as well as they did last year, which puts us in need of more scorers. our bench wont have that much depth in 08-09, with sam cassell, pj brown, scot pollard and probably eddie house and james posey leaving to free agency. that leaves us some ok guys off the bench, but they are either young (glen davis, leon powe, gabe pruitt, jr giddens) or just not very good (brian scalabrine, tony allen if we sign him). the sixers will definitely contend.

and also, look at the sixers performance in the playoffs. they didnt make it past the first round, but they did take a great pistons team to six games, which wasnt predicted much.

The same “great” piston team that lost 2 at home to the Celts when Boston couldn’t beat their meat on the road. give me a break.

“Why couldnt they have gotten Elton Brand or a player of his calliber (Chris Webber’s knees were dead when they got him from the Queens) when a young man who wore number 3 was on the team?” because they tried to improve the team via trades and a fair few of them were bought out due to them being crap and/or injured

When they were both healthy wasnt Jermain O’neal a better player than EB? So why is Philly penciled in as top 2 in the atlantic? Both are comming off injurys and cliam to be healthy i would say its a toss up at best for the 2 spot in the atlantic.

Russ Bengtson says:
If they hadn’t traded Korver, they wouldn’t have had the capspace to sign Elton in the first place. As for Elton and Jermaine, Jermaine has had knee problems for years, while Elton is coming off an isolated injury—and played well when he returend to the lineup last season.
Jul.14 at 4:52 pm
Jukai says:
Didn’t know Korver had a monster contract, when did they give him that?
Jul.14 at 5:16 pm
Russ Bengtson says:
It wasn’t a monster, but it was a fairly sizeable extension. Not sure when he signed it—two summers ago?

Jul.14 at 6:45 pm
Boing Dynasty says:
JO only had the one injury that he pushed to hard to try and come back early, he sat most of the year and came back for a few games at the end of the season, EB and JO are pretty much in the same boat as far as comming back from an injury, my point was that before the injury JO was a slightly better player.

The Answer says:
Getting rid of Korver made the signing of Elton Brand possible. Iggy is worth nowhere near a max contract. He turned down a 5 year/$57 mil deal last summer. And after this yea I don’t think he’s earned any more or any less than that. Actually his worth went down thanks to his performance in the playoffs. I’d give him no more than 60 mil considering Baron Davis just got 65. Iggy’s not in the same class as Baron.

Andre already said he wants to stay in philly for a long time. If he had fun last year without elton, imagine what happens when he realizes what the sixerz can do this year with elton. Eddie is gonna do anything and everything to keep the face of the franchise. heck yess with the bandwagon. i hopped on that the minute i got out of my mothers womb, baby.

Iggy won’t go to LA, the only thing that will come out of this is that he’ll probably get overpaid but oh well maybe that will be enough for him to shut up and play to his full potential. and whats with all the hatred toward philly on this message board (must be alot of new york and boston fans)….and people think philly fans are the most hateful, tisk tisk……

Can’t wait for Philly Vs. LAC next year. The Sixers will give everyone in the East a run for their money next year. However, my Raps don’t look bad either. And who knows, if the Knicks make some right moves like getting Eric Gordon and getting rid of Marbury, I predict at least 8th seed? Alright back to subject, I think Philly looks really good this year. Andre Miller is a pretty underrated point guard and an addition like Brand will make them a rebounding nightmare for other teams. Hopefully Andre Iggy doesn’t “Elton Brand” Elton Brand.

I agree with every sain person in here that says that Philly is not going to seriously challenge Boston even if they keep Iggy..so this is a non issue.
But it would be funny as hell if Iggy left the Sixers for the Clippers. Oh the irony. SMH
