Welcome to Memphis, OJ Mayo

by Marcel Mutoni

Last night, during the NBA Draft, OJ Mayo looked he’d just been told that his dog got run over by a truck upon hearing of the fact that Kevin McHale and the T’Wolves had selected him as the third overall pick.

Cheer up, OJ. We have some slightly better news for you: You’re going to Memphis, in exchange for Kevin Love and Mike Miller (and a bunch of throw-ins on both sides).

Memphis grabbed the consensus third-best player in the draft, USC’s O.J Mayo. The Grizzlies, who selected UCLA’s Kevin Love with the fifth pick, were completing a deal late Thursday night that will bring them (OJ) Mayo (taken third by Minnesota), Antoine Walker, Marko Jaric and Greg Buckner for Love, Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal and Jason Collins.

The deal still needed NBA approval, according to two league sources.

Mayo joins Mike Conley and Rudy Gay to form one of the more dynamic and exciting backcourts in the League, and Memphis was even savvy enough to get some badly-needed size out of draft, as they acquired Darrell Arthur.

With Kevin Love now a Timberwolf, the Gay-Love era in Memphis never had a chance to take off. ‘Tis a shame.

I like this trade for both teams. Mayo best prospect, but Love/Miller fits more needs for T-Wolves.

Mo Charlo says:
As a grizz fan, I really was looking forward to Big Love.

Jun.27 at 9:27 am

Hursty says:
Game is OVER!! We were missing our halves and enforcers. (Mason, Anasta, Pierce, Fitgibbon) you have a full team. In basketball terms we lost the equivalent of a point, small forward and centre as well as a 6th man. And won.

Jun.27 at 9:28 am

TADOne says:
OJ looks like Sam Mitchell in that picture.

I for one is really worried about Toine going to Memphis, too many similarities with The King; awkward yet alluring dance moves, same stage of career, same favorite food (Hamburgers), and same bodytype.

B. Long says:
I’m not one of those people who roots against players, but I just don’t see Kevin Love having a Top 5 pick-type career. Maybe he’ll prove me wrong but something about him smells like Christian Laitneer.

TADOne says:
Co Co and OJ sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g……
Yeah, i’m bored.

Jun.27 at 9:47 am

Eboy says:
B. you are more right than you realize. It’s taboo here ’cause he’s SLAM certified, but for him to be “big time” he would need to be a piece in a already successful program like the Spurs, Pistons, etc. He’s not a build your team around type guy. Minny had that in OJ to a degree, but…..well I’m still confused.

Jun.27 at 9:48 am

Co Co says:
Nice as in Nice! Ha. He looked handsome. I loved his ensemble minus the shoes. DJ Augustin had a nice look too. :)

Jun.27 at 9:49 am

Hursty says:
me too. Too slow for a post draft day.

Jun.27 at 9:50 am

TADOne says:
I’m wondering what Myles is thinking…

Jun.27 at 9:51 am

Money Bill Williams says:
hurst, in your blog you say that Jawai was such a force in the NBL this year but other than anstey, is there any competition in the bigman stakes?

Jun.27 at 9:52 am

Eboy says:
He might have to take out some more room in that jacket he has, TAD.

Jun.27 at 9:55 am

TADOne says:
Yeah, i’m quite sure he has to upsize that thing by about 5X.

Jun.27 at 9:55 am

Hursty says:
not really. But at 6-10, 280 and 21, I wouldve assumed that he wouldve been picked up MUCH earlier. esp, considering the fluidity (is that a word?) of rankings after the lottery.

Jun.27 at 9:57 am

Eboy says:
Actually, Love looked slimmer, but I think his bulk was one of his strong points in college. In the lig, without that bulk to plant himself down on the blocks, his lack of athleticism is REALLY going to be exposed, regardless of what Ryan may say later today. Luckily he can hit a jump shot, but sh*t, where does that warrant a top 5 pick?

Jun.27 at 9:58 am

H to the izzo says:
Interesting draft…

Jun.27 at 9:58 am

Money Bill Williams says:
i think he is 22 now, and i can see him having a shaq like waist figure sooner rather than later, hes almost nearly there. But i hope he does well. do u know how jingles went?

Jun.27 at 9:59 am

Co Co says:
If Kevin Love were black we wouldn’t be so suspicious of his top 5 draft position. And, if Mike Beasley could shrink 3 inches and his draft stock stay the same then Love is okay at 5.

Jun.27 at 10:00 am

Hursty says:
He has post up skills and rebounds well, not just height wise but with fundamental like step round box outs, chinning on boards and clearing out with his @ss and shoulders/elbows. He can play. 41 doesnt do justice to him and Ingles didnt get picked up. Too weak, cant score lights out, or hit from outside, no post up game and not athletic enough to guard 2’s while being bit(hed by stronger 3’s. m just m.o but thats probably the reason for no drafting.

Jun.27 at 10:00 am

TADOne says:
Let me be pro-Love for a sec: He has great skills as far as footwork, passing, floor sense, and great strength regardless of the weight loss. Also, playing next to Big Al, his game should come along just fine.

Jun.27 at 10:02 am

H to the izzo says:
Oh and Love lost 15 pounds(which the people calling him fat should like) and is just as athletic as Mike Beasley.

Jun.27 at 10:02 am

Money Bill Williams says:
spose u make a fair point. any1 know if jawaii get traded 2 t dot?

Jun.27 at 10:02 am

Eboy says:
Yes, he does, TAD, there are also about a dozen other PF’s that do the same thing. Answer the question, is he really worth a top five pick?

Jun.27 at 10:03 am

TADOne says:
Now the cons: Big Al and Love could possibly be the slowest post-defense in the league next season. On offense the lane is going to get clogged with both players looking to post-up.

Jun.27 at 10:04 am

Eboy says:
izzo, to say he is as athletic as Beasley put you in the front of the line for moronicisms. Wanna bet who has the more productive statistical seasons of the two since both teams records will still be crappy?

Jun.27 at 10:05 am

TADOne says:
In this draft Eboy? Yes, I believe he is. Unless you believe Westbrook or Lopez are that much better? How about Galinari?

Jun.27 at 10:07 am

Co Co says:
I agree with Tad. In this draft I don’t see why he couldn’t be a top 5 pick.

Jun.27 at 10:07 am

Eboy says:
You too, must also be in CDR shock not allowing you to look past the hype of the Burly Beach Boy, TAD.

Jun.27 at 10:07 am

Eboy says:
Co Co, you’re always wrong with your predictions so you don’t count lady!!!! 8)

Jun.27 at 10:07 am

H to the izzo says:
Eh,Eboy, has an equal vertical leap,a faster sprint and a very similar lane agility, but let’s not let fact get in the way here.

Jun.27 at 10:08 am

TADOne says:
Nope, i’ve had my two cups of coffee, so i’m quite coherent, thanks.

Jun.27 at 10:09 am

Eboy says:
Post those facts for me in an email and I’ll take it back, izzo.

Jun.27 at 10:10 am

TADOne says:
E, answer the question, who do you see that got picked in the top 10-15 selections that you think are THAT much better than Love is?

Jun.27 at 10:11 am

Eboy says:
Wouldn’t I just have to pick one to knock him out of the top 5 picks, TAD? That would validate my claim, I think.

Jun.27 at 10:13 am

TADOne says:
And for the record: I’m no fan of Love’s, but the stuff I was initially bagging on him for he is doing a good job of correcting. Mainly, the fact he needed to slim down and have a better lung capacity than Big Baby’s.

Jun.27 at 10:13 am

H to the izzo says:
Done.

Jun.27 at 10:13 am

Hursty says:
E- why you always gotta argue stuff dude? Its like asking someone whether they’ve seen your missing wallet/keys etc and they reply ‘Where did you last put it?’ reply ‘well sh*t, If I knew where it was why would I be asking you? Just for kicks and giggles?’ Im not really sure how that analogy/metaphor helps but meh. Tally Poppy Syndrome.

Jun.27 at 10:14 am

H to the izzo says:
I wish the Warriors could have drafted Joe Alexander.

Jun.27 at 10:14 am

TADOne says:
Ok, so who E? And Westbrook is NOT better than Love. That pick baffles me.

Jun.27 at 10:15 am

TADOne says:
Hursty: He’s a lawyer, he can’t help himself.

Jun.27 at 10:16 am

H to the izzo says:
Westbrook was the third best player on his team all season.

Jun.27 at 10:17 am

Hursty says:
Im still shocked that Hickson went so early at 19 to the Cavs or whoever. Wasnt he projected LATE 1st round?

Jun.27 at 10:17 am

Joslin#33 says:
yes Co Co, OJ did look nice last nite as he does every nite lol haha.

Jun.27 at 10:17 am

TADOne says:
Exactly izzo.

Jun.27 at 10:17 am

Eboy says:
hursty, in America you’re allowed to voice your opinion. It’s called free thinking. Try that sh*t sometime, your blog might get some shine if you do.

Jun.27 at 10:17 am

Co Co says:
I wouldn’t say always Eboy.

Jun.27 at 10:17 am

Eboy says:
I’d have taken Bayless or Gordon, TAD.

Jun.27 at 10:19 am

Eboy says:
Co Co, I know, but you are always against me as a rule, so I just fire back blindly. :)

Jun.27 at 10:19 am

H to the izzo says:
Serge Ibaka in the first round is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard of.

Jun.27 at 10:19 am

Hursty says:
@TAD- thats true, but you fellas get hooked by him all the time :)

Jun.27 at 10:19 am

Brandon Hoffman says:
I feel bad for OJ…Memphis? I bet his sophomore season at USC is looking pretty good right now…

Jun.27 at 10:20 am

H to the izzo says:
I would think his rookie millions is looking pretty good too.

Jun.27 at 10:21 am

Hursty says:
E- that totally explains why our blog is getting coverage on a national paper already and yours isnt……

Jun.27 at 10:22 am

Brandon Hoffman says:
@ H to the izzo - Money doesn’t buy happiness.

Jun.27 at 10:23 am

Hursty says:
and why you can google our address and get a hit back…. yours? not so much, but that cool. People get jealous for such little things these days. *sighs*

Jun.27 at 10:24 am

Eboy says:
I’m proud of you, Hursty. Have an entire nation realize that you guys are incredible at spelling and using proper grammar. Fabulous.

Jun.27 at 10:24 am

Myles Brown says:
Kevin Love can tell me how my a** tastes. I want OJ back.

Jun.27 at 10:24 am

TADOne says:
Hursty: Not roped in. I can ignore him if I so choose, but what fun would that be?

Jun.27 at 10:25 am

Hursty says:
Ok, so I made the paper one up, but our blog is more International than yours. so HA!

Jun.27 at 10:26 am

TADOne says:
I was waiting for that, Myles. Any chance you’ll be attending the press conference?

Jun.27 at 10:26 am

Eboy says:
Myles, can you tell us how you think Kevin will do with the Wolves as currently constructed. Maybe you can put this silly arguing to rest since you know the squad.

Jun.27 at 10:26 am

Money Bill Williams says:
myles, you should ask steph how his sisters ass taste

Jun.27 at 10:27 am

Hursty says:
We’re communicators of the next generation, you fellas are ALL older than us and your time is past. (this is in reference to only E but inclusive since you have a joint blog). Facebook? Myspace? Bebo? The Who baby.(not YOU!!!)

Jun.27 at 10:27 am

Eboy says:
TAD, did you hear anything else about Baron coming to Detroit? I didn’t hear sh*t mentioned last night.

Jun.27 at 10:28 am

TADOne says:
But silly arguing is so fun. Again E, i’m not saying trading Mayo for Love was smart by any stretch, but the man is NOT as bad as you make him.

Jun.27 at 10:28 am

Hursty says:
@ Sonny- dont go there. Shire wont protect you from the Black Riders…..

Jun.27 at 10:29 am

TADOne says:
The Baron rumor was debunked as soon as it went national.

Jun.27 at 10:29 am

H to the izzo says:
TAD:Love is white,Eboy doesn’t like that.

Jun.27 at 10:30 am

Eboy says:
Hursty, I would continue, but I get PAID to pull out the good sh*t and we were talking basketball until you interrupted adults speaking, so I’ll let you have your place in the sun with your blog and wish you all the best. I love you, as well as kangaroos, wallabys, koalas, komodo dragons and Olivia Newton John.

Jun.27 at 10:30 am

Money Bill Williams says:
dont worry hurst, you could just create another cronulla riot to quash them. I officially declare your blog a bust as you have not included the king of the ‘gong in it

Jun.27 at 10:31 am

TADOne says:
Izzo: E should LOVE Galinari then.

Jun.27 at 10:31 am

Eboy says:
Yes, izzo, that hasn’t been brought out in a while. May as well revist it.

Jun.27 at 10:32 am

Eboy says:
If he could make a good bracciole, I’d give him some credit, TAD.

Jun.27 at 10:32 am

Hursty says:
Eboy, dont get all mad about it. Cant all be perfect in every facet of life. Look at yourself. In all likelihood you represent people who break the laws of a corrupt and flawed government. Now, is it your fault that they broke the laws? no. Is it your problem? Yes. Would you chance that law to equalise everything? no. Why? Because you wouldnt have a job that is payed for by that government that you represent the client against. See? My logic is jumbled but undeniable.

Jun.27 at 10:32 am

H to the izzo says:
Well I’m past trying to explain your inane hate for certain things.

Jun.27 at 10:34 am

Bryan says:
I don’t think Love is gonna be very bad but I don’t like the fit in minny.

Hate it.

Jun.27 at 10:35 am

H to the izzo says:
Why would you hate fantasy characters and English soap operas?

Jun.27 at 10:35 am

ciolkstar says:
Kev Love is just a white version of Craig Smith. That worked out real well for The T wolves last year didnt it? Love will need to be paired with a shot blocking 5 to be able to log big minutes without hurting you defensively. OJ is sorta the odd man out. Memphis is better than Sota, mostly because its closer to other cool cities and the weather isn’t as bad, still it aint Miami, Chi Town, or Holllywood…Oj will do better on a team where he isnt asked to play point.

Jun.27 at 10:35 am

Bryan says:
I don’t like that Gallinari pick either. What up Eboy?

Jun.27 at 10:35 am

Hursty says:
I hate lawyers (in general, not all of them). I should write something but that would take considerable time and effort. I will think about it later though.

Jun.27 at 10:36 am

Eboy says:
You are way wrong, hursty, but that’s expected. :) Ang getting mag, around here, are you serious? The only time I get mad is when the Heat suck which was the last 24 months. You guys have that tender gene that needs a good massage like an enlarged prostate every now and again to keep you placated.

Jun.27 at 10:36 am

Brandon Hoffman says:
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Kevin Love will be lucky to have a career like Nick Collison’s.

Jun.27 at 10:37 am

TADOne says:
Holly: Hate what exactly?

Jun.27 at 10:37 am

Money Bill Williams says:
hursty i think they call them attourneys in the US of A

Jun.27 at 10:38 am

Eboy says:
I agree with Brandon, but not Collison really, more like Laetner as someone said earlier.

Jun.27 at 10:38 am

Hursty says:
OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!

Jun.27 at 10:39 am

Brandon Hoffman says:
Honestly, I’d love to see a case study that compared former players (legends) as GM’s to their counterparts that were less successful or never played the game at all. Elgin Baylor, Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas, Michael Jordan…the list goes on and on. Thank you Jerry West. Thank you…

H to the izzo says:
Stupid people are fun.

Jun.27 at 10:40 am

Eboy says:
So are ignorant ones.

Jun.27 at 10:40 am

Myles Brown says:
I was at the Target Center draft party last night and planned on going to the press conference before I got drunk off my favorite alcohol. The free kind. I was very happy with OJ & Chalmers and thought the foreign center was stupid since he just signed a two year contract overseas. Compounding things was the fact that Jordan was still on the board, but then again the whole effing league passed on him so I guess something must be wrong. Anyway, The Wolves still havent settled their guard issues, Foye is not a f*cking point guard and never will be and because Bassy cant shoot, he cant be who we need either. Brewer and Gomes are just as limited offensively as they were last year and with the addition of Miller it seems that someone will either be seeing a drastic decrease in minutes or an entirely different position next year, which theyre probably unsuited for a la Gomes at PF. And to top it all off, after playing our best f*cking player out of position all f*cking year, we draft a bona fide star in OJ and trade him for another undersized and limited player in Love who will assure Al another year out of position. The Wolves now have one of the smallest and defensively weakest front lines in the league, no true point to feed the post, no pure scorer to complement Al and the very real possibility that they just traded away two superstars in one year and are still nowhere near playoff contention. The only good thing about this trade was getting rid of two ridiculous contracts in Marko and Toine that clear up cap space for the Wade, Bron, Bosh sweepstakes in 2010. Whats that? None of them will want to come here anyway? F*ck.

Jun.27 at 10:40 am

Hursty says:
@ my last comment- was that a spelling error by all-powerful Eboy? My goodness…. is the world falling in on itself?

Jun.27 at 10:41 am

Eboy says:
Oh, and genius of all things collegiate izzo, so by your thought process and numer crunching, Beasley should have been a lower pick and Love could have gone 1 or 2, yes?

Jun.27 at 10:42 am

Bryan says:
Laettner didn’t exactly have a terrible career.I wonder if those comparisons are just because he’s white and got drafted by the wolves.

Jun.27 at 10:42 am

Eboy says:
hursty, I work while posting. I’m more concerned about what leaves my office than what goes into a SLAM comment.

Jun.27 at 10:43 am

Hursty says:
cool Myles

Jun.27 at 10:43 am

ciolkstar says:
Love is waaay more Craig Smith/Sean May with a J than Chritian Laetner, who was almost exclusively a jump shooter (and wasnt a fatty). Kev does most of his damage offensively in the post. Defense/Rebounding will be his biggest struggles in the L.

Jun.27 at 10:43 am

H to the izzo says:
No

Jun.27 at 10:45 am

Hursty says:
but I seem to remember strongly that you were adament you wouldnt write a comment with a mistake in it without correction. Is this not true? Also, as an Australian Representative on the board here, I must point out I have a massive dose of T.P.S in my system right now.

Jun.27 at 10:46 am

Eboy says:
No Shia, his whiteness is actually interesting. Can he be a Hall of Famer like Kevin McHale or Karl Malone? Very doubtful. Is he in the mold of Barkley or Duncan, a dominating presence? Not quite. Is he more similar to someone like Laetner in skill set and ability. Not exactly, but it’s a more accurate representation.

Jun.27 at 10:47 am

Eboy says:
Hursty, are you going to talk ball or keep rambling about nothing?

Jun.27 at 10:48 am

Myles Brown says:
Why the f*ck would you trade a 6′6 multi-faceted swingman with true star potential for a guy whose most highly touted attribute is his f*cking outlet pass? He can only throw an outlet if he can grab a f*cking rebound.

Jun.27 at 10:48 am

ciolkstar says:
Memphis could actually be fun to watch next year. Oops I just remembered they have Kwame and/or Darko starting. It would be awesome if Rudy, Conely, and OJ just literally take every single shot while Kwame and Darko just rebound and guard the basket. OJ and Rudy could be a sweet combination or an utter failure.

Jun.27 at 10:49 am

Hursty says:
I’d like to also say that as the lone rep. of Hibachi right now, it is my duty to write something such as ‘S.K.O smells/sucks’ or that ilk. No hate just friendly banter between a superior force to a lesser weaker one.

Jun.27 at 10:50 am

Silky Slim says:
Kevin Love = Brian Scalabrine

Jun.27 at 10:50 am

Bryan says:
I think he is a little stronger and more rugged than Laettner.. Let’s put it this way , I think he will be better than Andrew Bogut.Much better.

Jun.27 at 10:50 am

Eboy says:
I think Myles is going to be criticized in a moment. I tried Myles, dude’s weren’t having it. Maybe they’re afraid to confront you, though. You have that presence about your screen name. :)

Jun.27 at 10:51 am

Money Bill Williams says:
myles maybe it was premeditaded by sternbot as he thought gaylove might send out negative conotations of the league

Jun.27 at 10:51 am

H to the izzo says:
Myles:10 rebounds a game in COLLEGE is pretty good, and OJ is 6′4′’

Jun.27 at 10:51 am

Actually, that’s not a bad comparison, Shia. Bogut has a huge skill set too.

Fuc*er! For Shia’s early morning appearance.

Money Bill Williams says:
there is no aussie pride with bogut. i declare bogut and love pasty busts

Jun.27 at 10:56 am

H to the izzo says:
By that logic,I would have had to stood up for the Bogut and Barngani picks, which I didn’t and will never do.Nice try though.

Jun.27 at 10:56 am

Myles Brown says:
Kurt Thomas led the nation in scoring and rebounding coming out of college. That didnt mean sh*t and neither does Love’s 10 rebounds in college. And the Wolves already have a 20/10 guy in Jefferson, they dont need rebounding. They needed a legitimate center to be a defensive presence or a pure scorer to have an inside/out game with Al. No one can tell me that Kevin Love will average more than 7 boards per game at best, or that he will be the defensive stopper this team needed. I dont get it.

Jun.27 at 10:57 am

Hursty says:
I should write something intelligent to lessen the impact of stupidity I’ve left upon the board here……. Mike Miller has nice hair and is a good shooter. Timberwolves will win more games than the Grizz (on paper anyways).

Jun.27 at 10:57 am

Eboy says:
Money, are you denying Bogut’s skill set though?

Jun.27 at 10:57 am

Bryan says:
I don’t think he’s gonna be a revolutionary or anything , but 16 and 10 isn’t a bad career. Plus if he is igniting a fast break and keeping people off the boards with his strength then he is helping the team win.I like the player just not his location.

Jun.27 at 10:58 am

H to the izzo says:
And I think the Bobcats picking Agustine was great,he’s the best pg in the draft.

Jun.27 at 10:58 am

Eboy says:
Myles should stop making sense.

Jun.27 at 10:58 am

Money Bill Williams says:
hursty the sydney king will win more games than the wolves nex year

Jun.27 at 10:59 am

Hursty says:
Rockets shoud’ve kept Nicholas Batum….. Spurs owned the Suns on that late trade btw.

Jun.27 at 10:59 am

Eboy says:
@ Shia’s 10:57 comment. I said the same thing a while ago. I think Love would be a great “piece” on a good team. He’s no franchise dude.

Jun.27 at 11:00 am

Bryan says:
He will get more than 7 boards a game depending on his PT..I think an 11 and 8 rookie year isn’t out of the question and then gradually growing into a solid double double and threat with the ball in his hands.Kurt Thomas also got hurt if I remember correctly…AND TCU isn’t exactly UCLA.

Jun.27 at 11:00 am

Hursty says:
O games? an extinct team is better than one in operation?

Jun.27 at 11:01 am

Money Bill Williams says:
eboy, bogut is signing an $80 mil contract with average stats for a number 1 pick . what has he done for me lately?

Jun.27 at 11:01 am

H to the izzo says:
And you would prefer OJ?Nobody can tell me that he’ll be more than a 20ppg with low fg % while leading the Lig in turnovers.

Jun.27 at 11:01 am

Eboy says:
I’m feeling you on the numbers Shia, but I think he’s more in the 10 and 6 range as a rookie.

Jun.27 at 11:02 am

Eboy says:
Bulls*it, izzo. Wade owns the turnover crown!!!!

Jun.27 at 11:03 am

Eboy says:
Money, I know the money is ridiculous today, but I’m still wondering if you think he had a great skill set coming into the NBA as a rookie?

Jun.27 at 11:03 am

Money Bill Williams says:
ok ok hurst you right. The wolves will win less games than the sutherland sharks

Jun.27 at 11:05 am

Eboy says:
TAD, are you still lurking?

Jun.27 at 11:05 am

Myles Brown says:
The point was that people do all kinds of remarkable sh*t in college that they have absolutely no chance of doing in the NBA. Love and however many boards he was grabbing per game is one of those cases to me. And again, this frontcourt did not need rebounding, it needed size and defense. Love has neither. And what good is that outlet pass on those rare occasions that he does grab a board? The Wolves did not fast break much at all last year, probably due to personnel. Who on this team is going to finish these outlet fueled breaks? Brewer? Gomes? Miller? Craig Smith? Chris Richard? Al? Cardinal? C’mon. If you want to fast break a big guard who can board and handle himself in the open court and finish at the rim would be a lot better. And they had one til they traded him.

Jun.27 at 11:05 am

Hursty says:
We play them on sunday at Norths, stupid shire pu$sies.

Jun.27 at 11:06 am

Bryan says:
Why is everyone so down on OJ Mayo? The expectations were so high nothing short of leading the nation in points , rebounds, assists , steals and shooting 75% from three would have satisfied anybody. The guy scored 21 a game and shot 40% from three and the one expectation he didn’t live up to was the most important one :team cancer and disrupter.

Jun.27 at 11:06 am

Eboy says:
That’s why Myles writes for the mag and we all sit around like idiots.

Jun.27 at 11:06 am

TADOne says:
The Wolves should NOT have traded Mayo, but Love will not be THAT bad. Anyway, I’m out of town visiting friends and family, so ya’ll have fun today with your discussions. I’ll leave with this: Joe D., YOU SHOULD HAVE DRAFTED CDR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jun.27 at 11:07 am

Money Bill Williams says:
eboy he showed promise but was a late developer having not reached the victorian state team until he was 16. not having access to regular utah games in aust from what isaw he had the skill but has not converted this potential intothe league

Jun.27 at 11:07 am

Eboy says:
Who’s down on Mayo, Shia?

Jun.27 at 11:08 am

WhaHuh says:
I’m calling it now, after seeing draft night OJ Mayo has the best beard in the League

Jun.27 at 11:09 am

ciolkstar says:
10 and 6 is exactly what Craig Smith averaged last year. Not terrible production but the problems were on D, Love needs to far out perform the Rhino in order to not be a bust, I see him getting more minutes as they season goes and will prob avg 13 and 7 by year’s end. Offensively he’ll be fine, but they’ll get exposed by big/atheletic front courts all day.

Jun.27 at 11:09 am

Bryan says:
Eboy: I see it all the time and just now Izzo.

Jun.27 at 11:10 am

Hursty says:
Bogut was the No.1 pick because he was the best player coming out of that draft AT THE TIME. CP3 was awesome at Wake but he wasnt the best college player at the time. Bogut could face up and back down and could reverse pivot really quickly, something a big man rarely does these days. He was the most talented big man and deserved to go first based on what he achieved at the time.

Jun.27 at 11:10 am

H to the izzo says:
Calling him a 20ppg scorer is being down on him?

Jun.27 at 11:10 am

Money Bill Williams says:
hursty, what rep team you play for?

Jun.27 at 11:12 am

H to the izzo says:
Hursty:The reason Bogut was picked first was:He was really big,he averaged 64FG% at a sh*tty college and GMs were afraid to draft a PG number one, especially an undersized one.

Jun.27 at 11:12 am

Eboy says:
Shia, I meant people that actually know what their talking about, sorry.

Jun.27 at 11:12 am

ciolkstar says:
Were OJs glasses not perscrption ?!?! Thats hilarious! I thought the duit was a little tight but vey nice. Gordon was easily best dressed. I’m a recent UT grad, so I love DJ augustin, but he went way too high. He’s really gonna struggle against big/atheletic PGs. But he’s a great kid, very smart and will have a decnt career. But he went a little too high IMO, before Bayless right?

Jun.27 at 11:13 am

Hursty says:
I said in above post. Have a good one guys. P.S Kanye is a b*tch. So are Knicks fans.

Jun.27 at 11:14 am

Eboy says:
Have a good weekend Hursty.

Jun.27 at 11:17 am

Hursty says:
Its already Saturday morning. also, Im on holidays for 3 weeks. You fellas have the ‘pleasure’ of my company for that time. I hope I wont be so incoherent on Monday. too tired. Later.

Jun.27 at 11:23 am

ciolkstar says:
Izzo is 100% right about Bogut. I was really surprised he went #1…he’s fairly skilled just not an elite athelete. Again, DEFENSE is where he’s a liability.

Jun.27 at 11:25 am

Eboy says:
coilkstar, that was exactly the reason I kept asking about Bogut. Love has the same MO. Well, except for the sh*t college team.

Jun.27 at 11:25 am

Keith says:
Memphis could have a bright future but for the fact that Kwame Brown and Darko still exist.

Russ is the only one who can pull that power play, izzo! :) Fuc*er.

Jun.27 at 11:37 am

BraD says:
yeh man. I like O.J. Mayo alot. Rudy Gay and Brandon Roy should a little rivalry. Andre Igoudala was in that draft too. All upcoming guards. I’m happy for the grizzles. I’m one of the few that liked letting Pau go. If they win 27% without PAU and 28% with him its really not that big of a deal. Rudy is proving he can lead the team but he has no help. Mike Conley will get more playin time and O.J. will be an all-star one day. All the Grizzles need now is a solid big-man. They’re not goin to do real good so soon but Grizzles fans be patient. P.S.-Greg oden is goin to be the rookie of the year

Jun.27 at 11:43 am

Captain America says:
Good trade and pick for Wolves. Just a straight up Mike Miller for an NBA unproven O.J. Mayo is a winner. And Miles, Corey Brewer is renowned for being on the receiving end of a launch pass. Getting rid of Twinkle Toes ‘toine and Marco Jaric’s crazy ($21M) contract for Collins (in final year of contact) and Cardinal ($13M over next two years) is a winner.

Jun.27 at 11:51 am

albie1kenobi says:
i’m devastated that jason collins is leaving the famed 3-head grizz monster of center extraordinaire. darko and kwame are gonna miss him terribly.

RV says:
so does that mean y’all didn’t like my shooting guard preview on Hibachi? Damn haters….kidding..kidding…

Jun.27 at 11:55 am

RV says:
T wolves need to trade Jefferson or Love for a true center, the grizz need to get rid of a pg, they have like 4 right now, need some big men….

Jun.27 at 11:57 am

DP says:
I loved it RV, but it makes no sense that Shan Foster is even close to being drafted with CDR. Kyle Weaver before CDR? This draft made me want to get run over by a car.

Jun.27 at 12:16 pm

RV says:
I dont know what it is about CDR, i honestly wanted to drop him even further in my review, around 7 or 8, but i kept thinking he had to be better than that based on his college career and how others rated him, but I keep thinking his game won’t translate..

Jun.27 at 12:32 pm

Kevin says:
man thats a lotta trash bein “thrown in” on both sides……. the combo of Kevin Love & Mike Miller is better than OJ Mayo though, so i hope Memphis got the better end of the salary relief.. all the players i didn’t mention i didn’t mention for a reason, lol.

Jun.27 at 12:39 pm

Myles Brown says:
The combo of Love and Miller is better only if Love ends up being remarkably better than Craig Smith-a player the Wolves already had-and Miller actually sticks around after his contract expires and continues to contribute. Otherwise, its just Love straight up for Mayo, and that’s not a good deal to me. I do like dumping the bad contracts and making cap room, but for who?

Jun.27 at 12:44 pm

ciolkstar says:
do i hear an echo/

Jun.27 at 12:50 pm

Are you fishing for something?

Jun.27 at 2:41 pm

Jake says:
I’m sure this trade will work out great for us. Just like when we drafted Brandon Roy and traded him for the super awesome (RANDY FOYE IS NOT A MOTHA F*CKIN PG) guy got we got back…..

Jun.27 at 2:54 pm

Co Co says:
As A Hawks fan its quite refreshing to not have to bitch about bad draft picks today. :)

Jun.27 at 3:08 pm

Captain America says:
Myles, in a world of second-guessers….You have to roll with what you know now. Rhino plays good for his size but he has match up problems at certain times, doesn’t have a solid mid-range game, and won’t spread the D with a 3-pt. shot. Love is alleged to do that. Freeing up cap money is huge in FA. If O.J. accomplishes what Mike Miller has (ROY, 6th MOY) than okay, but for now O. J. Mayo is all hype.

Jun.27 at 3:22 pm

Eboy says:
Co Co, you’ll have a lottery pick next season, no worries!

Jun.27 at 3:42 pm

Co Co says:
That was a low blow Eboy. I hope Beasley’s a bust! :)

Jun.27 at 4:29 pm

whitechocolate says:
OJ Mayo’s full name: Orange Juice Mayonnaise

Jun.27 at 4:48 pm

Allenp says:
Kevin Durant got 10 boards in college too. Just saying.

Jun.27 at 4:54 pm

The Promise says:
Personally, I think the Wolves burned the Grizzlies on this trade. I mean, they traded away their best shooter, a good hustle guy in Brian Cardinal, and a rebounder in Jason Collins, all just to get OJ Mayo. We know what kind of pro Kevin will be, but we dont really know what OJ will bring. Will he be a solid NBA player, a superstar, or a downright bust? Who knows. But I know Kevin Love will be a good pro at least. I predicy he will be a 20 and 10 guy at some point in his career. So I definitely think Minnesota will come out on the good end of this, because, not to mention they cleared some cap room getting rid of Antoine Walker and Marko Jaric. Wait and see, Minnesota will be a good team as soon as these young guys grow. It will be interesting to see how Corey Brewer and Kevin Love do in the next few years.

Jun.27 at 5:57 pm

Diogo says:
OJ Gayo?

Jun.27 at 9:07 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
At least you got rid of Marko Jaric’s contract? Sucks that Adriana goes with him, though. And while I’m not as high on OJ or as low on Love as my esteemed colleague, I understand his frustration. Maybe more moves are in the future?

Jun.27 at 9:22 pm

Ben Osborne says:
Free Kyle Lowry!

Jun.27 at 9:49 pm

RV says:
i dont thinkt he grizz got burned, they actually have collected some nice young talent in Arthur, conley, Gay, Lowry, and OJ. Mike miller was good, but lets face it, he would be a waste to have with all these young guys who need a few yrs to develop. conley is 20, Gay is 21, Lowry is 22, OJ is 20, even Darko is only 23. they just need to get rid of walker and jaric and continue to acquire young talent.

Jun.27 at 9:57 pm

The Promise says:
@RV: Dont even mention Darko man. He sucks.

Jun.27 at 10:32 pm

RV says:
he can rebound and block shots, he was a first round bust, but he doesn’t exactly “suck”.

Jun.27 at 11:26 pm

Diogo says:
He sucks.

Jun.27 at 11:55 pm

RV says:
yeah, Michael Jordan sucks too, its that easy when you don’t write anything to back it up…

Jun.28 at 1:31 am

Diogo says:
And even easier when you don’t have the game to prove otherwise.

@Diogo: thank u much

Jun.28 at 1:15 pm

The Promise says:
@RV: If Darko is so good, then let me show you his stat sheet: 7 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block. Wow. Incredible. Numbers dont lie. He aint very good, and thats being nice about it.

Jun.28 at 6:58 pm

RV says:
@the promise: please point out to me where i wrote he was good or compared him to someone who is “that good”. The only thing i wrote was he didn’t suck, since when does that automatically make someone good? Can he not be in between? Y’all continue to see him as crap because he didn’t live up to a top 5 pick, but that’s over with and he’s with a different team, maybe u can argue he’s overpaid, but he doesn’t suck if he can keep an NBA job and also start most of the time. He’s a good shot blocker, solid rebounder, but has problems with his offense. That can also be said for several other NBA centers or forwards out there. His stats are still solid for a role guy who’s not even the 4th scoring option on the team. I guess you didn’t realize he only played 23 mins a game. If you look at his game log you’ll see, when playing 30 mins or more, he usually had 10+ rebs, 2+ blocks and 10+ pts. Numbers don’t lie, right? His problem is his FG% and he’s inconsistent.
