Surprise: Don Nelson Doesn’t Agree With Mark Cuban
Mark Cuban’s assessment of what the Olympic Games truly represent, though perhaps stated without enough tact, was completely correct. That doesn’t mean, though, that everyone is going to agree.
And someone who completely disagrees with Cubes, is former Mavs head coach Don Nelson (who hasn’t exactly been seeing eye-to-eye with Mark Cuban for the last few years.)
“I couldn’t disagree more,” Nelson said. “It’s not about the money. There is pride in these athletes. He ought to have more respect for his country. Everybody in the NBA makes plenty of money. It’s not too much to ask that every four years you give something back to your country.”
“This country has given Mark Cuban the opportunity to make money by the billions. You’d think he’d have more respect about giving something back to his country. He should feel a sense of pride, be privileged and honored to have one of his players on the Olympic team. If he doesn’t, that’s sad.”
I’m sure that I’m not alone when I say that I cannot wait to hear Cuban’s reaction to this.

Nellie is too real! Cubes is such an ass, complaining that the Olympics are all about money just to protect his investment. Idiot. The Mavs are dunzo. If Cuban has any class he’ll keep his mouth shut…but we know trhat ain’t happening.

I disagree with cubes from a fan point of view. Sure there’s money involved but as a fan I will watch as many events as I can and best believe I will be loosing money doing so. Therefore Cuban doesn’t seem to have the fan perspective at heart at all. Furthermore, for track and field athletes the Olympics are the ultimate platform. No bitter owners worried about their livestock. Lets take Mike as an example who generated more dough from endorsements than the Bulls. Let’s have Jerry Reinsdorf take that issue up with Phil knight.

I think Team USA needs to win Gold to justify it’s champions as ‘world’. I always watched the NBA because these guys are suppose to be the best in the world. Same reason people watch UEFA and Premier league soccer over say, the MLS

- if you have a lamborghini, would you let someone else drive it?
- i wonder if there are basketball players who grow up and dream about getting an Olympic gold medal as their goal.
- the track & field starts don’t get paid millions a year to participate in in their sports.

So Albie, is that the cut off amount, a few million.
My last point was to say that Nike can claim a player just as much as the NBA team. It’s all just contracts. What you are saying is whoever pays gets to decide the players faith. Trust that endorsers often pay more and I bet you they want to see those guys compete in international comp.
The Olympics and it’s representation are crucial to the development of the League. Ask Stern. I do understand why Cubes or Pop would moan but it’s rather selfish, don’t you agree. And so are YOU for not letting me drive your Lamborghini.

Tim Dennis says:
@Albie1kenobi If you had a Lamborghini would you let the creator of Lamborghini show it off at a car show with Porsche’s, Bentley’s and other car manufacturers? The Fact that Cuban wants to keep everything to himself is just selfish!
Dirk and JKidd where german and american before they were mavericks

albie- the track athletes dont get paid a stack vs. NBA players but golden league and euro tournaments are good money. Europe is the home of T&F.

Cuban is a blowhard. He thinks that having a blog and getting lucky in the lottery (i.e. the dotcom boom) is enough to buy you respect.

Would have thought Cuban would have wanted Dirk/Kidd to play in Olympics…you know so he can get something for them… because he should trade them.
