Jeff Van Gundy Sees Many Titles in Lakers’ Future
Jeff Van Gundy is one of the better TV analysts working today, and he’ll be calling the insanely hyped Lakers/Celtics Finals for ABC, alongside Mike Breen and the irrepressible Mark Jackson.
Van Gundy took in a conference call with the media yesterday to discuss the championship round, and he not only sees the Lakers winning the ‘chip this year, but many more after that.
“My pick, I think the Lakers are the most talented team in the league, and they’re missing their third or fourth best player in Bynum,” said Van Gundy, who will join Knicks broadcaster Mike Breen and Mark Jackson for the 11th finals meeting between two storied rivals.
“So when they get [Bynum] back next year, I think they can be a dynasty. The Lakers will win it this year over a very good Celtic team.”
Jeff, I’d love for your prediction to come true, obviously. But take it easy for a moment, compadre. Let’s see them win a title first - which, in and of itself, will not be an easy task - before we start with the dynasty talk, OK?

about being a very good team. Dynasty, lets not get ahead of ourselves. 1st I spose. Was Bynum really that good? Really? 12 and 12 is great but I didnt catch any of the laker games with him playing for various reasons. Please inform.

Whebn Bynum went down, wasn’t he the seconed best player on the team? And if they are to be a dynasty, he would have to contuinue at that rate. Great center play is what makes a dynasty (except for the 90’s Bulls)so the young cat will have a ton of pressure if he hears JVG’s words.

many more to come? i dont know. the west for the next few years are goint to be hard for any team to win. the hornets jazz suns and even the old spurs. so putting them on top of those teams for the next few years is kind of a bold thing to say

I agree with Gazoo.

With an upgrade at point, they could put together a nice run. I wouldn’t discount the reload of the Spurs team next season though. Their M.O. states they will be title bound after a dissapointing playoff run.

Anything is possible, but can they beat the Celtics first before we debate all of this?

No TAD, we can’t. This is SLAKERSonline. I thought you knew that.

Danino Brown says:
@eboy…..maybe because predicting a teams future does not convert to being a great coach. They have an awesome young bench that will hopefully continue to improve, + radman, odom, gasol & bynum who are all solid players + mamba when they started pulling it together this season winning lots of games playing as a team, I began to think they had a very bright future Lakers in 6

not liking this… for a highly anticipated finals matchup, how could ABC/ESPN contract van gundy + jackson. those guys are terrible! jackson seems like he trying too hard, with his dependence on trite basketball expressions, to sound knowledgeable. and frankly i’m tired of hearing “force the issue” to commend good basketball decisions. i just assumed they would put the best out there who is Hubie. man, this is gonna take the overall experience down a notch. it’s gonna feel like a regular season game on a lazy sunday. these guys cant capture that Finals atmosphere. i’m dissapointed.

TADOne says:
Look. the Lakers COULD possibly be a dynasty, but the following could also happen: The Celtics could beat them (i know, i’m grasping for straws here), Bynum’s knees could be shot, Odom could go back to his old lackadaisacal attitude, Fish could retire and Farmar may not be the answer, the Spurs could re-load, the Hornets could add a legit “2″, Oden is as good as advertised, etc.
Jun.3 at 9:42 am

TAD, good call on the Oden and the Blazers, because I think they are going to be for real WAY sooner than later.

Phil has proved hands down over the past couple of years that he is the best coach of all time by molding this team into what they are today. Getting Pau Gasol for a pile of human excriment didn’t hurt either but for them to be this good this fast the Zen Master def. deserves the credit.
Jun.3 at 9:50 am
marcgar says:
@TADOne: thats one of the best comments on this page. cause the hornets are only going to either get better or just be as good as they were this year which was pretty damn good. and the spurs as i hope will reload with a better bench and role players to help out their big three. the lakers do need to worry about bynums leg odums play and if farmar is going to be much of a leader at pg. the lakers have a damn good team this year but the west are all contenders for a run at the ship next year
Jun.3 at 9:50 am

I was going to say its down to him or Pop. Right now. (Pop didnt do coaching all that well 20 years ago) or at least I dont recall him being successful.

abcdcamp21 says:
Bynum alright….portland will get better with 90 year old man starting his first season, and they could get a steal in the first round draft coming up….the east teams will be better also, deep draft, alot of player movement, especially with the cavaliers.
Jun.3 at 9:53 am
Eboy says:
While this will sound blasphemous to some of you, let this marinate. Being a Bulls disciple long before there was a Miami Arena and a Miami Heat team in Florida, I have learned long ago that it’s Phil and his staff’s preparation that set’s his teams apart when it come’s to series management. Phil’s in-game decision making as a BENCH coach is probably not in the top three all time, but having a team prepared and making matchup adjustments from game to game, he is probably unparrelled in tweaking players and gameplans to adjust to teams strengths and exposing weaknesses.
Jun.3 at 9:54 am
abcdcamp21 says:
Lakers dynasty i think not…..players they have are not proven killers, except for kobe. one championship ring feeds the hunger of some players more than others, could get comfortable with that…last real dynasty is chicago bulls…i think it might stay that way.
Jun.3 at 9:55 am
Mark Z says:
Let’s see them play some games first, El Jefe… As for Bynum, he definitely showed potential but let’s see a full season of play before he’s crowned Kareem’s long lost son…
Jun.3 at 9:55 am
B. Long says:
The Blazers are gonna be for real, but like Byron Scott told the Hornets this year,”You don’t go from not making the playoffs to winning a ring. It just doesn’t work that way.” Young Drew will be fine. He’s the youngest player to ever have the surgery and if Amare Stoudmire is any type of measuring stick for him he’ll be a double double machine next year and probably the second or third best Center in the L. The Lakers only concern after this season is probably point guard even though D-Fish is the one of the greatest role players of all time and a true leader father time catches up with everyone eventually and I love Jordy’s game but I’m not sold on him being the full time answer. I know this is a far-fetched dream of mine but I’d love for B-Diddy to come home and pick up a few rings while he’s at it. We’re not a Dynasty yet, but we got a helluva chance to become one. I’m talking 5 or 6 rings over the next decade dynasty. FTH.
Jun.3 at 9:56 am
TADOne says:
No argument from me, E.
Jun.3 at 9:58 am

@abc- the spurs would like a preliminary discussion with you on that. You only need one killer. fish has hit big shots and like it or not Gasol has hit game winners.
Jun.3 at 9:59 am
Froggiestyle says:
Doc Rivers is so getting motivated reading all this praise for Phil Jacks…. watch out peoples. The Doctor is coming to town. ;0)
Jun.3 at 9:59 am
TADOne says:
B. Long: I was nodding in agreement before your last few sentences. Again people, are we totally disregarding the Celtics chances in this series? Seriously? I’m not even going to respond to the 5 or 6 rings comment.
Jun.3 at 10:00 am
B. Long says:
And for those people who say that the Bulls were the last dynasty, don’t forget about the Shaq/Kobe three-peat. They may have been the most dysfunctional dynasty ever but any team that threepeats deserves some respect.
Jun.3 at 10:00 am
Eboy says:
Did the Lakers win the West by 40 games or something like that? They steamrolled every team they played? B. Long, by your calculations, Kobe will be pushing 40 and still racking up rings. Better get your mind right. 5 more seasons of Kobe brilliance and I’m sure you can fathom the slowdown’s a 35 year old player will walk into once he get’s there. If anyone thinks the Lakers are winning 5 or 6 rings in a row, they truly are lost in their own worlds.
Jun.3 at 10:01 am
Hursty says:
blong- theres no way that the lakers can get Biddy without a major shake up or extreme cap overload. They would need to give up Odom and at least two bench players and why would the Warriors agree to that?
Jun.3 at 10:07 am
B. Long says:
@Tad: I’m not disregarding the Celts’ chances but I just have a hard time understanding how a team that struggled to get out of the first round in the east and has already played 20 playoff games is really gonna have much of a chance. Maybe I’ll have to take them more seriously after game one but I have my doubts.
Jun.3 at 10:11 am
B. Long says:
@Hursty: I said it was far-fetched but they wouldn’t have to give ish to the Warriors cause Diddy can opt out. The cap room would def. be a problem though but I can’t help but be greedy. Baron is my fav. Non-Laker and a hometown kid.
Jun.3 at 10:13 am
TADOne says:
B.Long: Homecourt advantage, 3 very good players, experience on the bench, very good defense.
Jun.3 at 10:16 am
Hursty says:
ok. fine. Im too tired to argue/vehemently discuss.
Jun.3 at 10:17 am
B. Long says:
@Eboy: I never said that Kobe would be winning rings at 40. I said that the Lakers would have a shot at 5 or 6 over the next decade and I can’t believe I’m gonna do this but how old was Mike when he won his last ring? Do you really believe that if the Jerry’s hadn’t nuked that Dynasty that they couldn’t have competed for another 2 or 3 years? I’m also factoring in the emergence of Young Drew into this equation and I truly believe that he will establish himself as one of at least the top 5 big men in the game over the next decade plus even if we lose a piece here or there if you got a All-Star Center and you play in L.A. it’s not hard to sign free agents. I wonder if Dwayne has any objections to running the point? Hmmmm….
Jun.3 at 10:22 am
Eboy says:
B. Long, just so you are aware, there are about 5 teams in the Lakers conference that will push the Lakers, as champions or not, to levels the Bulls never really had to face. There was usually one or two legit threats in the East when Michael and the Bulls reigned (starting with Boston/Cleveland, then Detroit/NY, then later the Heat and not much else)The Lakers will have to really show more than they did this season, which was a really good season for them, to be dynasty-istic. That will not be a walk in the park with the teams sitting out there, all of whom are pretty young at their cores too.
Jun.3 at 10:24 am
Hursty says:
Jordan was 35.
Jun.3 at 10:30 am
B. Long says:
@Eboy: I wanna hear your list of the 5 teams that are gonna push the Lakers in the West. Hornets, Jazz, and possibly the Spurs if they totally overhaul their social security collecting bench? And all those teams have huge flaws that the Lakers are capable of exploiting for years to come. The Blazers are at least 2 or three years away from making a legitimate playoff run.
Jun.3 at 10:33 am
Eboy says:
B. Long, you know teams make moves to counteract their deficencies, right? I think The 4 teams you named, plus the Rockets, are all able to be title challenging capable with tweaks to their rosters and good health.
Jun.3 at 10:34 am
Eboy says:
And in the Blazers case, some seasoning.
Jun.3 at 10:35 am
B. Long says:
@Hursty: So do you really think that if the Bulls had stayed together that they couldn’t have competed for a chip for the next 2 or 3 years? Or was MJ confined to a wheel chair after hitting that shot on Byron Russell?
Jun.3 at 10:38 am
B. Long says:
The Rockets are cursed for trading Hakeem to the Raptors to end his career. It’s really not T-mac’s fault after all. J/K, way too injury prone, gotta get out of the first round before I can consider you a contender.
Jun.3 at 10:44 am
Hursty says:
Jordan didnt have to retire, he was probably the best 35 yr old athlete I’ve ever seen except for Serge Bubka and the frenchmen who does 360 windmills at 38. MJ had serious knee issues shortly after that retirement which persisted into his time eith the Wiz. Rockets werent cursed, they got the No.1 pick and Stevie, dude kept em aflot for a few years all by himself, they were BAD when Yao got there and Franchise earnt his nickname at the time.
Jun.3 at 10:47 am
Eboy says:
I’d like to see a guy like Artest on the Rockets, to give Tracy and Yao a thug to let them play their games without having to meet every confrontation they may run into.
Jun.3 at 10:50 am
Hursty says:
Me too, theyd trade battier whos the same style of player as Artest in lockdown defender, not much else, theyd get some help offensively and hes only making 9 million a season so the rockets only have to give up battier and hayes/brooks/francis.
Jun.3 at 10:52 am
Hursty says:
drug lord is too fu9king hard.
Jun.3 at 11:22 am
B. Long says:
@Hursty: And that first round pick has produced how many playoff victories? How many rounds in the playoffs did they win with the “Franchise”? Don’t get me wrong, I loved Stevie Wonder’s game in his prime but as soon as they shipped him to Orlando it was like that player died in Houston or something. I’m telling ya they’re cursed til they get out of the first round.
Jun.3 at 11:24 am
DP says:
It’s Kobe’s world right now. Who can stop Kobe when he is in the zone? But I WON’T say dynasty until they win this first one. If they win that. By the way, anyway feel Lil Flip will be a good analysts once Marky Mark leaves? JVG would flip out.
Jun.3 at 11:24 am
Joe says:
He said he thinks the Lakers CAN be a dynasty. Thats perfectly legitimate.
Jun.3 at 11:27 am
DP says:
I love Scola man, no I’m lying my ass off but I think the Rockets need to get a solid scoring 3. Now they don’t need to get rid of Shane because he does all the things that really are unnoticed but important. I would say CDR but I feel that T-mac and him are kind of a like. I say that the Rockets trade for Ron Ron or Richard Jefferson.
Jun.3 at 11:35 am
Billymagnum says:
why is everyone still talking about the rockets? like they’ve got any chance at all…adelman couldn’t get immensely talented teams in portland AND sactown to the finals, let alone winning the chip’, what makes anyone think he can do it in houston? I’m the new prominent celtics fan on this board, btw…since none of my brethren in celticland seem to be able to retort, then perhaps i should take up the cause….and F*&^ the lakers!! win something with this team b4 you talk dynasty
Jun.3 at 11:41 am
Dark says:
SA’s big three wasn’t healthy, and w/o a healthy Ginobili, the Spurs were . . . well you saw what happened. Boston’s big three is healthy, and Ray Ray’s got his stroke back. I’m no Boston fan, but their D is for real, and I think LA’s gonna get rattled.
Jun.3 at 11:43 am
B. Long says:
@Billymagnum: Please make sure to be on this board Friday morning. And please close out a sub-500 team in the playoffs before forcing a game 7 before you start talking about winning one title. If Denver was in the East they would have knocked Boston out in 6 max.
Jun.3 at 11:49 am
TADOne says:
B. Long: On the same note, please wait UNTIL you beat the Celtics before saying the Lakers can have a dynasty.
Jun.3 at 11:51 am
B. Long says:
Even if we lose, which ain’t gonna happen, we are still hellua stacked for the next 5 or 6 years. Like I said, we’re not a dynasty, yet.
Jun.3 at 11:52 am
Billymagnum says:
B. Long, do you actually know basketball or has the internet increased your testosterone? everyone talks about the hawks series like it means anything now…how bout taking out the team w/the second best record in the L in six, including two on the road? denver would’ve gotten punked by the c’s the same as they did by the lakers…i don’t hate the lakers, just their ridiculous fanbase who thinks they’re the greatest thing since sliced bread…laker fandom is a lot like duke fans…love your team, respect no one else…preposterous…i’m all for supporting your team, but damn, at least live in reality where there are other good teams out there..
Jun.3 at 11:55 am
Billymagnum says:
And has anyone noticed that boston has won every really big game this postseason? every game one, every game five, game sevens-check, game 3 at detroit-check, close out game 6 in the D-check…my boys got heart
Jun.3 at 11:56 am
B. Long says:
I would respect the Celtics alot more if they didn’t act like they already have Bill Russell rings and KG didn’t try to incave his own chest after every single shot attempt. I’m pretty sure I even saw him do it after Sheed scored just by accident. Lakers in 5. 6 max.
Jun.3 at 11:56 am
Kevin says:
i have a ton of respect for JVG as a coach, and the combo of him & Mark Jackson is my fave commentator crew as well.. but this series is still up in the air, depending on how momentum swings.. if Boston wins Game 1, the series gets infinitely tougher.. if Boston loses Game 1, i’d take the Lakers in 5.
Jun.3 at 11:59 am
Billymagnum says:
B….in what way have they acted like thy’ve got russell rings? got me laughin’ bout KG tho..he does do that doesn’t he?
Jun.3 at 11:59 am
DP says:
Billy boy, yes we have respect for your celtics but you can’t be mad the way people feel about this series. I think the Celtics will be the toughest opponents LA will ever come across and it is not going to be just cookies and kool-aid but hey this is where the lakers shine the most, crunchtime. I know that if the Spurs were to make the Finals, they would beat the Celtics. The west is just too f*cking powerful. I will say though that this series is being hyped up to be the best thing since sliced bread.
Jun.3 at 12:03 pm
DP says:
KG is a head case no doubt B.long. I don’t care how much emotion I would have, I couldn’t bash my head on the wall when I get an and-one or bust all the air out of the ball when I miss a free-throw. KG and Timmy are so funny when they miss frew-throw. Like the ball can hear them when they curse the hell out of it.

Russ Bengtson says:
Is JVG angling for the Lakers job? Because I don’t see Phil Jax driving this train forever. Also, I’d wait to prognosticate until we see what’s left of Andrew Bynum.
Jun.3 at 12:26 pm
B. Long says:
@Eboy: OK, I’ll finally admit it. I’m Brian Shaw in disguise. @Russ: Trust me, Young Drew will be fine. I’ve personally seen him working out with Kareem and lets just say that what you saw early this year didn’t even scratch the surface of the beast we are gonna unleash on the league next year. Picture a young Shaq with touch. Scary. I can’t wait til Phil retires so I can take credt for this gravy train.

I’m saying this to celtics fans, show some heart and love for your team, and stop being shy about how you feel…this is embarrassing!!! unless of course my theory is true that c’s fans are still blue collar and don’t have the time, and lakers fans are white collar sitting at their cubicles looking for something to do…
Jun.3 at 12:48 pm
marcgar says:
billymagnum you hit it on the spot. and also most of laker fans are bandwagon fans. love them only when they win
Jun.3 at 12:51 pm
Billymagnum says:
marcgar, b.long’s jokes are those of a fourth grader, but so is your prose (look that up if you’re lost about it’s meaning)…and i’m sorry you’re a spurs fan, it’s nice to win but it’s also nice to have some entertainment when you’re winning…and the spurs have been BORING to say the least, and why haven’t they been able to repeat? zero for four so far.
Jun.3 at 12:52 pm
Billymagnum says:
But as a fellow laker hater, much love for the disrespect to them….
Jun.3 at 12:52 pm
B. Long says:
@marcgar: Thats funny cause I’ve predicted ever series down to the number of games correctly except one. Gosh darn back spasms! And I know I predicted the Lakers over the Spurs in 5. Maybe the Chuckster should try out for the WSP?
Jun.3 at 12:58 pm
44-32-24 says:
Provided Bynum comes back healthy next season, the Lakers will be the pre-season favorites for 08-09 regardless of if they win it this year or not. Winning 5 or 6 would be awesome, but I think that’s an insult to the rest of the league, especially SA, NO, Utah, Portland, and others.
Jun.3 at 12:59 pm
B. Long says:
@Billysnugfit: Prose? I didn’t know that Blue Collar Celtics fans such as yourself where so edumacated! You must have some community college in your background/future? And since you thought that my KG refrence was so hilarious but all my jokes are at a fourth grade level I thought I’d help you out with that big spelling test coming up. The correct spelling is COUCH. C-O-U-C-H. COUCH.
Jun.3 at 1:01 pm
B. Long says:
@44-32-24: I’m not trying to insult them nor am I guaranteeing anything. All I’m saying is that with the core of talent and avg. age that we have asembled we’ll have a shot at it if we can stay together and healthy. Yes, I know that’s alot of ifs.

Russ Bengtson says:
Predicting who’s going to win the championship at the start of the playoffs is hard enough. Predicting a DYNASTY before the team in question has won as much as a single Finals game is just plain crazy. Kobe could blow a knee out walking to the mailbox tomorrow. Lamar Odom could become Bad Lamar at any instant. The Grizzlies may have saved their receipt from the Gasol trade. One championship at a time, sheesh.

@Everyone: I said there where alot of ifs. But honestly has there ever been a team so stacked and so young? I really can’t remember one…and if Kobe blows his knee out I’m starting a Petition for LBJ to L.A. within seconds.
Jun.3 at 1:22 pm
B. Long says:
@Billyboy: I give you props for sticking up for your team, dude. Like you said there aren’t many Celts fans to have your back. You guys got the best squad in the East and I hope the finals are as good as advertised. RESPECT.
Jun.3 at 1:23 pm
Billymagnum says:
um, as talented and as young? yep, they were called the mid-80’s lakers, you remember them, b.scott, worthy, magic, etc….except for that one guy, oh yeah, cap…that team was stacked.
Jun.3 at 1:27 pm
B. Long says:
@Billy: I was thinking the same thing but I didn’t want to sound like a punk for throwing my squad out there again. Good Point. Magic was probably the greatest Rookie of all time.
Jun.3 at 1:31 pm
marcgar says:
LBJ? damn you are greedy blong
Jun.3 at 1:33 pm
albie1kenobi says:
don’t forget that he was lobbying the Baron too, marcgar.
and big ups to JVG. this man is my favorite announcer of all time. bar none. the stuff he talks about you’d never thought it’d come from him when he was coaching.
Jun.3 at 1:36 pm
Billymagnum says:
good lookin’ B…all i’m sayin’ is that just like the pistons series, where if i recall correctly, every analyst b4 every game (except maybe jon barry) picked the pistons to win, you never know what’s gonna happen, s*&^, i’m just happy my team made it back to the damn finals, it’s been too long, and i was just a young buck the last time i saw the c’s in the finals…thanks btw magic for the baby hook…this series is going 7, and it’s either team’s to win.
Jun.3 at 1:36 pm
marcgar says:
in 2010 when kobe becomes a free agent i’m going to start lobyying for him to go with the spurs. so it wont be so boring for yall to watch them play
Jun.3 at 1:38 pm
B. Long says:
@marcgar: Only if Kobe blows his knee out, but if he wants to sign as a Free Agent with Kobe still here and collect rings like Tiffanys I won’t be disappointed either. @albie1kenobi: I have no justification for going after Baron execpt he is my fav. player not playing on my fav. team. And he is from L.A. So there.
Jun.3 at 1:41 pm
B. Long says:
Lebron would probably rather play for the Vancouver Grizzles than the Spurs. San Antonio and Coach Pop ain’t exactly a FA magnet.
Jun.3 at 1:42 pm
Billymagnum says:
anybody seen that independent documentary in black and white where baron skates around a park with the old school boom box wearing the old school muscle tee and short shorts? if you haven’t check it out, sorry i can’t remember what it’s called, but’s it’s hilarious.
Jun.3 at 1:47 pm
marcgar says:
i’ll agree on that blong i dont think pop will ever have a super star on the team. san antonio just doesnt attract super star players
Jun.3 at 1:48 pm
albie1kenobi says:
Baron is the man, and I live in the bay, so I’m a little protective of him, B. Long. i bet you trade for him in a video game and have your dream lakers team. i don’t blame you. i used to have KG catching oops from kidd at minny a few years ago.
speaking of Baron, i love his half face commercial with sandler. i can totally see him being in the short film that billymagnum mentioned.
Jun.3 at 1:50 pm
albie1kenobi says:
wait, marcgar so you saying timmeh is not a superstar? i guess we have different definition of a superstar then, but i think i see your point.
Jun.3 at 1:53 pm
B. Long says:
Timmy is an all time great. Anyone who argues with that fact needs to get a Kat Scan quick. But in todays “Market Aware” culture of the NBA, the Spurs are gonna have a tough time attracting top tier talent. They draft well though.
Jun.3 at 1:59 pm
marcgar says:
ya and thats what sucks right now i cant think of anyone that they can get to help out timmy parker and manu for the next few years. and they lost splitter to the erou league
Jun.3 at 2:01 pm
marcgar says:
that was euro not erou
Jun.3 at 2:02 pm
Billymagnum says:
what the spurs need is another robert horry (but much younger) type player…a cat who can shoot the three, and flat out d-up in the post…a replacement for finley wouldn’t hurt either…and damn, anyone will be better than jacques vaughn at backup point…
Jun.3 at 2:04 pm
Billymagnum says:
except for maybe karl malone and elgin baylor, has there ever been a better PF in the league?
Jun.3 at 2:04 pm
B. Long says:
Remember when people thought Damon Stoudemire was gonna be a diffrence maker on the Spurs? Me neither…
Jun.3 at 2:05 pm
Billymagnum says:
than timmy?
Jun.3 at 2:05 pm
B. Long says:
I’d take Sir Charles in his prime over Karl Malone anyday.
Jun.3 at 2:07 pm
B. Long says:
No one is better than Timmy at the 4 spot. Amare has a chance to be though.
Jun.3 at 2:09 pm
marcgar says:
thats why i hope they can get mario chalmers in the draft. he would be a good back up for parker. i dont expect him to be great like stuckey was in the playoffs but he would be good to mold for the spurs
Jun.3 at 2:11 pm
marcgar says:
amare would be if he would play some d. in the series against the spurs they exploited that and when he did play d like in game 3 they wipped on the spurs
Jun.3 at 2:16 pm
Billymagnum says:
yeah, yeah, amare’s great and all, but it’s tru, no D whatsoever…good point, b.long, chuck sure was a handful, but 35,000 points (number 2 behind your boy cap), that kind of says it all, well, and that guy stockton helped alot i suppose…
Jun.3 at 2:20 pm
Billymagnum says:
that baron davis flick is called “Framed”…it was on the Independent Film Channel, directed by Emmanuelle Chiriqui
Jun.3 at 2:31 pm
B. Long says:
@Billy: thanks for the tip.

Lakers in 5

bostwik says:
no one cares what van gundy thinks
Jun.3 at 2:48 pm
marcgar says:
i’m not going to predict who wins but its going to be in 6 or 7 cause either team can steal it away from the other
Jun.3 at 2:54 pm
WhaHuh says:
Wasn’t Elgin Baylor a shooting guard?
Jun.3 at 3:10 pm
Billymagnum says:
umm, no wha…he was a PF, albeit undersized by today’s standards
Jun.3 at 3:20 pm
silverselectjd says:
hold on… why does everyone say the Lakers have to get past the Celtics? The way the 2 two teams are playing right now, methinks the Celtics have to get past the Lakers!!

The Last Kings Fan says:
As far as the Spurs “reloading” goes, keep in mind that Duncan is gonna be 33 by the time nexy year’s playoffs start…
(I know this conversation was a while ago, but I didn’t want to read all the way down to get to the most recent conversation)
Jun.3 at 3:51 pm
underdog says:
I see Marcel doesn’t want to jinx anything.
Jun.3 at 4:12 pm
B. Long says:
@The Last Kings Fan: I can def. see Irobot playin into his late 30’s. His game based more on fundamentals and footwork than it is athletic ability so he’ll be straight for at least 3 more years.
Jun.3 at 4:16 pm
Brandon Hoffman says:
Barring injury, this Laker team will only improve. If Andrew Bynum returns next season after the Lakers win the NBA championship like would be like winning the title and having the #1 pick.

The Last Kings Fan says:
B, Duncan will still be one of the better players in the NBA, no douby about that.
But the Spurs really need to think about the future. Will the Spurs when another chip before Duncan retires? I wouldn’t put it past them. But the Spurs are old. They need to think about drafting for younger guys, because they can’t keep “reloading” forever. I say the Hornets are the biggest threat to the Laker “dynasty”
Jun.3 at 5:06 pm
ciolkstar says:
150 comments? really? God Lakers fans are annoying.
Jun.3 at 5:07 pm
ciolkstar says:
For the record, I LOVE Bynum as a player. But lets wait and see about him…
Jun.3 at 5:34 pm
B. Long says:
I wonder what Tim Duncan is doing right now? Hmmm….
Jun.3 at 6:28 pm

as a Laker fan, i just wanna sit back and say “wait till we get Bynum back”. i know its gonna kill some of you.

DUMBASS COMMENTERS!
Jun.3 at 9:02 pm
albie1kenobi says:
actually ciolkstar it was just B.Long battling everyone today… so props to him, really. and as a Lakers-disliker, i agree with JVG. kobe hates to lose probably more than anyone in the L right now, and now that he has the horses around him, i don’t see why the Lakers can’t win multiple chips.
Jun.3 at 9:19 pm
Bubba Chuck says:
@ b. long: i aint gonna waste my time thinking of a smart ass reply so ill just say
F*CK YOU!
Jun.3 at 10:21 pm
B. Long says:
No thanks Bubba, I already got mine from Momma Chuck. BOO-YAH!
Jun.3 at 10:29 pm
tealish says:
ciolkstar: Yes, leave it to the Lakers to draw this many comments from a topic as uninspired as this.
Jun.3 at 10:34 pm
B. Long says:
@tealish: You gotta love it.
Jun.3 at 10:35 pm
Tavrich says:
Celtics have got this one. Lakers are a hungry team, but boston will win and this is why.
Hard work is better than talent when talent is not willing to work hard. At the moment Lamar is not working hard enough, Radmonavic should score lots more if he is coming up against garnett. Odom has problems right now and Paul Pierce will make them worse. Kobe is the one working hardest but he needs to know that Ray Allen has alot more skill the Ginobli. and Derek fisher will be swept off his feet by Rondo.
Jun.3 at 10:54 pm
jb says:
dayum ray allen has more skill than ginobli?are you serious tavrich? its true he a shi**y ass conf. finals series as opposed to allen(and still he only played well in what 2 games?), but cmon man theres noway allens got more than ginobli
Jun.3 at 11:03 pm
B. Long says:
@Tavrich: Wow, this is why people should have to get an IQ test before your allowed to breed. “Hard work is better than talent when talent is not willing to work hard.” Where do you people come from? West Virgina?
Jun.3 at 11:03 pm
Nashty says:
I was thinking about this the other day. I believe this Laker team will win about 3 rings with Phil at helm and everybody healthy.

Jun.4 at 4:41 am

All you wannabe experts: If there is a dynasty in the making it will be a dynasty in green. Garnett and co will win multiple titles. Too obvious.

Jun.4 at 7:57 am
Camb0dia says:
Until they win the title, there can not be any talk of dynasty. remember 2006? was reading sum old magazine about how devin was saying he has a chance to win next year because the starting five team average was like 26 (harris, terry, dirk, howard, diop) with a couple of legit backups (stackhouse, dampier) and then it all fell apart, while i doubt it will melt like it did in mavs u just dont noe.

I Agree with Jeff, regardless of how Bynum plays when he comes back. Kobe is unstoppable and they have such a great team….Bynum’s return is definitely going to be a Plus.

Van Gundy should be fired! It’s one thing to call a game, but it’s another to viciously bash the Lakers after almost every play. Why would ABC put such a biast (and obvious) Boston fan at the microphone? Even if I was NOT a Laker fan (which I am) the comments he throws out during the telecast are inappropriate and stupid… Someone at that overrated broadcasting station has to recognise the crap coming out of Van Gundy’s mouth and tell him to tone it down… PLEASE FIRE VAN GUNDY
