That was a bad deal no matter how you look at it but, the most amazing fact about the trade was that Wallace failed to include Brian Cardinal’s contract in the swap. How does that happen? Certainly with Kobe salivating for Gasol’s post presence - The Lakers knowing the Bynum injury was more serious then it first appeared - and them being able to sure up the best frontline in the NBA over the next 4-5 years the scrilla they would have to pay Cardinal (who wouldn’t be a terrible addition to the bench mob btw) would have been an easy sell.

The Griz actually wanted to unload salries, so it didn’t make sense to get any salaries back for what is now “Brian Cardinal’s expiring contract”.
I didn’t like the move, and nobody else in the West didn’t like it, but it was a ballsy move, that didn’t help a team antagonizing Memphis, and it will be good for them down the road. Now, If they could have gotten a couple of 1st rounders more, then it would be perfect.

In fact, if the Grizzlies got back lamar Odom, this would be a worse deal for them. He would just be eccumbering a young team with rookie scale contracts.
P.s. This move will only work if they are fine with paying the luxury tax, after they load with young up and comers and 1-2 free agents
