Does J.O. Make Toronto Contenders in the East?

by Marcel Mutoni

That’s the question that must be asked once this trade goes through.

A trade - though it initially looked as if it’d fallen apart at the 11th hour - that has effectively stolen the spotlight from tonight’s NBA Draft. Toronto and Indiana will have completely different looks next season, to say nothing of the Eastern Conference.

Once the physicals are passed, Jermaine O’Neal will be joining Chris Bosh on Toronto’s frontline, while TJ Ford hopes to shore up Indiana’s poor guard play (with Rasho Nesterovic and the Dinos’ 17th pick as throw-ins.)

So, what does this mean for the Raptors, who are taking the biggest gamble in this here trade?

Well, for starters, they’re getting a guy (and as always, health permitting) with All-Star potential, capable of giving you 20-10, and alongside CB4, gives Toronto one of the best and most fearsome frontlines in the Association. If, if, healthy. If not, well, you’re stuck paying someone close to $45 mil over the next two seasons to sit on the bench and look fly in designer suits.

J.O. and TJ are two guys who both desperately needed a change of scenery, and the two teams are definitely happy to see them both go. Not sure what that says about either player, but if uncle injury doesn’t rear his ugly head again, this should be a good move for everyone involved. Again, if.

Ken says:
Short answer: no. But Calderon will be solid this year because of this.

Jun.26 at 9:17 am

maurice says:
yes. people will fear the post now. two all-star big men.

Jun.26 at 9:19 am

Jukai says:
I say yes, actually. Even if he plays 60 games, those 60 games, he’ll help the Raptors out. Let’s just see if he can play in the NBA Playoffs.

Jun.26 at 9:19 am

BETCATS says:
if he regains control of his knees: yes. If he doesnt, he will turn into Johnathan Bender.

Jun.26 at 9:20 am

WhaHuh says:
Yes because East is Least, depends what happens to Celics/Pistons/Magic/Wizards in the offseason and if people return healthy.

Jun.26 at 9:21 am

BETCATS says:
no

Jun.26 at 9:23 am

FLUXLAND says:
That is one gigantic IF. One of his knees goes out and then what? What do we got then? We’re sucking the basement floor in the East. For one that doesn’t usually make huge gamble trades, BC sure rolled the dice on this one. Pacers will come out on top with this deal, and I can’t wait for TJ to come back and tear Jose a new one. Should be fun.

Jun.26 at 9:24 am

Hursty says:
can Calderon start and play 35-40+ minutes consistently? Last year he was fantastic playing 24 off the bench. He’s more of a ‘true’ point than Ford and having a weapon like J.O will really benefit them. CB4 + J.O = better than Odom and Pau (when both are healthy) imo, but as to whether they are contenders? No. Not right now. They wont beat the Celtics, Pistons or improving Magic, Philly and ATL draft well and they should be still on the up and improving, while theres lottery teams that could do damage depending on health e.g nets, Knicks (really? I have no idea), Bobcats and the everpresent Wizards. Cavs have LeBron. ‘Nuff said.

Jun.26 at 9:27 am

Money Bill Williams says:
people are forgetting how good JO was in the 04 season. Dude carried Pace team which was arguably better than the Motown team which won a ring that year. He also made others around him better ( Artest, Tinsley, Harrington, Pollard!!, Foster!!!!)

Jun.26 at 9:27 am

Hursty says:
The pacers arent set to play for anything right now, and probably not for another 2 years at least. Granger, Ford, Dunleavy(?) and the pick is what they have to work with. Danny is excellent but he was/is like Joe Johnson without help. Great player who needed the younger dudes to improve and for good drafting to take place.

Jun.26 at 9:28 am

RolleZed says:
Pacers to eastern conference finals!!!

Jun.26 at 9:28 am

BETCATS says:
since my other comments went away, i guess i will just resay my thoughts: The only way JO could be good is if he played wheelchair basketball. He has no legs left. Sure he has heart and a huge contract but thats all. His knees are destroyed and he is constanly injured, so it is just sad to see him on the court. Hursty: Next year the Lakers will play Odom at SF since Bynum will return. a Bynum/Gasol frontcourt will be the best in the NBA.

Jun.26 at 9:29 am

BETCATS says:
and if the Bobcats get Roy Hibbert and that Hendrix guy from Albama (who is the next big draft steal) we should have a pretty good front court.

Jun.26 at 9:31 am

Hursty says:
he made artest better Sonny? he was DPOY and darkhorse MVP candidate that year.

Jun.26 at 9:32 am

Money Bill Williams says:
BETCATS…. Bynum is not going to pull an Amare, he will be mediocre at best. Pau will get some steam going in beijing but i cant see him playing exceptional next season

Jun.26 at 9:34 am

TADOne says:
Pending physicals. And no, this doesn’t steal the spotlight from tonights draft.

Jun.26 at 9:34 am

TADOne says:
Please do not turn this into a Lakers post all.

Jun.26 at 9:35 am

Scotie says:
If there is any upside to this deal it would be what does this do for CB4? can J.O. create enough space for Bosh to continue his growth as a legitimate star in the league… can this turn him in to a 25+ 12+ player? or will J.O. be a me first distraction? is this a trade for a legitimate option in the frontcourt…. or one headache for another?

Jun.26 at 9:37 am

Money Bill Williams says:
hursty.. pretty sure JO was third in MVP voting that year. If JO had not been on that team then artest would have been called upon to score more therefore leading to a lower defensive output which makes his mvp votes jacksh*t

Jun.26 at 9:37 am

BETCATS says:
Money Bill Williams: Did you see Bynum BEFORE the injury? He was a true center who was on the verge of breaking out into a star center. Pau is a GREAT power forward and was playing out of postion in the finals and the playoffs. Pau and Amare are two different players, but both had to play out of postion until a true center (Bynum and Oneal the a$$taster) came in. With Amare, we have seen what has happend, and Pau should be able to thrieve like he did in Memphis as a POWER FORWARD. Either Pau or Bynum will be all star’s this year or both could be.

Jun.26 at 9:39 am

Money Bill Williams says:
tad, shall we make it a detroit post?

Jun.26 at 9:40 am

TADOne says:
Too late…..ugh.

Jun.26 at 9:40 am

TADOne says:
Yes, that would MUCH better Money.

Jun.26 at 9:41 am

Hursty says:
Pau thrives on a system with player movement and freedom. Lakers have less than other teams with set moves off the triangle and iso plays for Kobe, so as a 4 Pau has that advantage over others. J.O finished 3rd. Correct. Artests numbers were insane though, AND he was probably a better player defensively then than now (Battier is no.1)

Jun.26 at 9:43 am

Money Bill Williams says:
bet. i agree that pau was out of position, but i still dont think he will contribute as kobe will try to take over just like its 2006 and try to get that sour taste out his mouth

Jun.26 at 9:43 am

Hursty says:
My bad TAD.

Jun.26 at 9:43 am

BETCATS says:
alright tad: Davis>>>>>>Billups

Jun.26 at 9:44 am

BETCATS says:
Money Bill, he was an All Star in Memphis. If the lakers can get a good new point guard, they would be a dynasty. And what kobe does is hard to tell, he tried to take over in the finals and failed.

Jun.26 at 9:44 am

Charbury says:
This trade gets the Raptors to the second round of the playoffs at most.

Jun.26 at 9:45 am

Hursty says:
um…. Kobe tried to play like Nash in G7 and that didnt work out too well for him, if reference to 81 and 62 my bad (again).

Jun.26 at 9:47 am

Hursty says:
the role players can step up for T.Dot, more minutes for Kapono, Moon decides that he’ll not only start but contribute more than breakaway dunks but offensively as well and Joey Graham can unleash his unknown scoring prowess if given minutes at the 2.

Jun.26 at 9:48 am

Money Bill Williams says:
BET. Raymond Felton?

Jun.26 at 9:49 am

BETCATS says:
game 7? what game 7?

Jun.26 at 9:49 am

FLUXLAND says:
Charbury.. you are high!

Jun.26 at 9:50 am

BETCATS says:
why bring Raymond felton into this? Felton is a average to below average PG as of now; plus he belongs to my Cats and we aint letting him go for anything.

Jun.26 at 9:51 am

BETCATS says:
FLUXLAND Charbury ryhmes with Marbury. Nuff said.

Jun.26 at 9:53 am

FLUXLAND says:
Hursty.. Joey Graham - scoring prowess? HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHHA! You got jokes ha? AHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHHA… that was great mate!

Jun.26 at 9:56 am

Money Bill Williams says:
thats why i said it

Jun.26 at 9:58 am

BETCATS says:
i see. is Farmar really the future though?

Jun.26 at 10:00 am

Money Bill Williams says:
not according to the nba finals he isnt

Jun.26 at 10:02 am

BETCATS says:
then what do they do? i am a bobcats fan so dont ask me.

Jun.26 at 10:03 am

Jukai says:
You know, there are other teams in the NBA besides the Lakers. Just tell you.

Jun.26 at 10:04 am

BETCATS says:
really?

Jun.26 at 10:08 am

Paps says:
Contenders? No. But there better and not push overs anymore and anything can happen in the playoffs.

Jun.26 at 10:08 am

BETCATS says:
like the raptors? they exsist? If they are real why would they make a stupid move like this?

Jun.26 at 10:11 am

TADOne says:
Apparently, Canada still has an NBA franchise.

Jun.26 at 10:11 am

mamadou n'diaye says:
I’m a huge lakers fan and all so glad to see the talk somehow shifted to how good they’ll be next season, but I actually have a raptors question. Who backs up Calderon? He’s never played heavy minutes before for a full season (I think the seasons in euroleague are shorter?). Living in toronto I know for a fact the ownership group isn’t going to let BC spend the full MLE to bring someone else in.

Jun.26 at 10:12 am

Money Bill Williams says:
raptors now > orlando

Jun.26 at 10:12 am

BETCATS says:
mamadou that is the million dollar question

Jun.26 at 10:13 am

BETCATS says:
orlando at start of regular season > toronto now

Jun.26 at 10:16 am

BETCATS says:

Jun.26 at 10:18 am

BETCATS says:
what the hell will the sonics do with all their picks? they got like 6 of them.

Jun.26 at 10:21 am

Jukai says:
I said OJ Mayo (if he’s available) and Bautman are probably good choices.

Jun.26 at 10:23 am

BETCATS says:
OJ seems like he could be a bust. I think everbody is going to call me crazy for saying that but so be it.

Jun.26 at 10:23 am

BETCATS says:
and Hedrix will be the steal of this draft.

Jun.26 at 10:24 am

Money Bill Williams says:
i agree with you stephen a smi.. i mean BETCATS

Jun.26 at 10:26 am

BETCATS says:
well everthing i say is important. but i dont wear suits so i guess we differ their.

Jun.26 at 10:27 am

BETCATS says:
Money Bill Williams; what type of name is that? what the fu(k are you a used car saleman or some sh!t wise guy?

Jun.26 at 10:28 am

Money Bill Williams says:
do you eat cheese doodles?

Jun.26 at 10:29 am

Money Bill Williams says:
you obviously dont follow rugby league

Jun.26 at 10:31 am

BETCATS says:
no because i watch basketball and football and ocasionlay baseball and even more rarely soccer if nothing else is on tv. As for cheese doodles, i dont just eat them. Me and cheese doodles enjoy picknicks under the stars, long walks on the beach, and dinner at sun set. When i wake up next to them i know i made the right choice choosing them over cheetos. They are so crunchy and full. Tastey. Now sell me a Ford, B!tch.

Jun.26 at 10:35 am

Money Bill Williams says:
well seeing as you don’t watch it i’ll tell it straight. i aint no usedcar salesman i just whine to my manager that i dont get enough money for my services

Jun.26 at 10:36 am

Brandon Hoffman says:
Absolutely. O’Neal is recovering from a torn meniscus. It’s not like he underwent microfracture surgery. His odds of making a full recovery are still pretty great. He made a brief comeback this past season but shut it down because the Pacers weren’t playoff contenders. But don’t forget — this guy was an All-Star as recent as last season. He and Chris Bosh become the best frontcourt in the Eastern Conference and if Calderon makes the jump that many are expecting him to make — look out!

Jun.26 at 10:36 am

BETCATS says:
lol, so you came here to impersonate somebody too. Seriously, make sure that Ford is a pickup with lots of mileage left on it.

Jun.26 at 10:38 am

Money Bill Williams says:
brandon, we havent been talking bout ONeal for a damm near hour

Jun.26 at 10:40 am

Money Bill Williams says:
A ford pickup BET, you really are country as fu(k, i bet your favorite movie is deliverance aswell and you name your kid randy

Jun.26 at 10:41 am

Tom says:
the beauty of the deal if JO is healthy, they don’t need him to be 20/10, they need him to be a presence on the boards and on D and to keep defenses honest when trying to double Bosh. Most importantly JO is brings some toughness to the team, which is desparately needed.

Jun.26 at 10:43 am

BETCATS says:
i am kuntry not counry, if you slap my neck it wont turn red. Ever wonder why the word BET was in my name?

Jun.26 at 10:43 am

JO in TO says:
honestly i think JO will be amazing here. he had most of last year to rehab the knee and in an interview with slam mag he says he is 100% so i believe him. That was way before this trade became into talk. Watch all you haters eat your words this year trust me it was a “MAKE SENSE” trade.

Jun.26 at 10:44 am

BETCATS says:
as for the real topic here i agree with Tom that it could be good, but it wont since JO is never healthy. Prove me wrong.

Jun.26 at 10:45 am

Money Bill Williams says:
coz you blew all your money at the track and the bank repossed the trailer?

Jun.26 at 10:50 am

BETCATS says:
Money Bill, this site is like home away from my home. Most of the big name posters know me, and they know i am insane on here and i dont care what i say since i will never meet any of them. That being said: You can not spell, i can sence you thru the computer take a break from all the jerkingoff because you smell, i am mr.100000 i dont live in a trailior i live in a house with my mom (since the grandparents moved away), i dont like rudgy or whatever the hell it is called, and i am kunry. Where the fu(k is my truck. You are not a good commentor here dont tell me you suck as a car salesman too?

Jun.26 at 10:51 am

Rapsfan says:
Good move on both parts, If it goes wrong for the raps and he gets injured, than just look at the salary cap space we will have after 09-10 season. If he does well than we have the best front court in the conference. With a good outside game to compliment it. Really excited about this one, will be interesting for sure

Jun.26 at 10:51 am

BETCATS says:
the end of that. Can we get back to the topic i derailed us from.

Jun.26 at 10:52 am

ciolkstar says:
I need to lock Calderon up on some fantasy isht for sure now. He’ll be racking up dimes with legit staryer minutes and Bosch/Jermaine inside.

Jun.26 at 10:53 am

Eboy says:
Classic BET.

Jun.26 at 10:53 am

Money Bill Williams says:
you spelled C-O-U-N-T-R-Y wrong three times. And BET if you can smell me, TELL ME HOW MY ASS TASTE?

Jun.26 at 10:55 am

BETCATS says:
E, its about time you showed up.

Jun.26 at 10:56 am

BETCATS says:
if Jermaine can some how becomme healthy, i will take back all my comments about this being a bad trade. That sure as hell wont happen.

Jun.26 at 10:57 am

BETCATS says:
This may sound borederline racist to somepeople but Joe Alexander and David Archuletta from american idol look alike.

Jun.26 at 11:00 am

Eboy says:
Just for shi*ts and giggles, this deal will turn out being turrible for the dinosaurs. And BET, take the high road. It’s the better route.

Jun.26 at 11:02 am

BETCATS says:
yeah i am done with that thing

Jun.26 at 11:02 am

BETCATS says:
JO now is JB. JB= Jonathan Bender.

Jun.26 at 11:12 am

BETCATS says:

Jun.26 at 11:12 am

Keith says:
I’m hoping Jermaine has a great year but it’st gonna be difficult as he’s not the number one offensive threat anymore. His ppg are gonna go down but overall, I think Torntos win percentage will go up. Still won’t get past the East semis though.

Jun.26 at 11:18 am

FLUXLAND says:
Keith? PLAYOFFS?! DON’T TALK ABOUT PLAYOFFS! PLAYOFFS?! *throw keyboard against wall*

Jun.26 at 11:32 am

Mark Z says:
‘ATL draft well’?! They do have great young talent, after picking in the lottery for the last decade, but they need to start thinking trade to round out that team. I still don’t get the MWilliams pick. Especially since they didn’t trade that pick or player, were already stacked with swingmen & CP3 and Deron Williams were on the board.

Jun.26 at 11:37 am

DP says:
I f*cking hate wordpress. I just wrote a freakin essay and it didn’t post. ugh. Long story short, Danny Granger will be an ALL-STAR next year and CB4 will cut off his wack imitation of dreads. D.J. Augustin and Robin Lopez will also have great rookie years for the Pacers.

Jun.26 at 11:38 am

Jun.26 at 11:51 am

DP says:
It’s really bout to be a problem now.

Jun.26 at 12:00 pm

TheMadKiwi says:
Sorry, not a chance. O’Neal is a poor shooter, both in execution and decision-making, age and injuries have overtaken him and he gambles on defense in order to chase blocks. His numbers are on the decline and ultimately he’ll probably take touches away from Bosh. Don’t like it.

Jun.26 at 12:02 pm

Diesel says:
JO won’t make anyone a contender, especially after his first jump ball as a raptor where he’ll strain his back and tear both ACL’s. If this was 2002, great trade-the Raps are contenders. Not now tho.

Jun.26 at 12:04 pm

Jukai says:
Money Bill Williams is pretty entertaining. BETCATS is, well, BETCATS.

Jun.26 at 12:08 pm

DP says:
No Way Jose is going to be a beast this year. 17 ppg, 9ast, 5 rebounds. F*ck Gil Arenas, he is going to be an all-star.

Jun.26 at 12:12 pm

BETCATS says:
Jukai i am what i am and Money is a guy who can get you a great deal on a used Toyota van but not a ford truck. I said it. Can we move on.

Jun.26 at 12:16 pm

Keith says:
FLUXLAND: You don’t think the Raps will get to the plaoffs or you don’t want to think that far ahead?

can we get an official “rumors” post, so we can discuss them? There’s one about the knicks trading #5, david lee, + another player for Portland’s #13, #27, and jarret jack…all i have to say about that one is WTF are the knicks thinking, but there’s many more.

Jun.26 at 12:22 pm

BETCATS says:
Keith, i tip my american hat to you. Nice to see you back limey.

Jun.26 at 12:22 pm

Good trade. The only player who is more injury prone than JO? TJ of course, so the Raps take a step ahead. (Greg Oden doesn’t count!)

Jun.26 at 12:24 pm

BETCATS says:
alright, write your storys.

Jun.26 at 12:30 pm

BETCATS says:
Keith, me and you can always be civil

Jun.26 at 12:30 pm

Eazy-Yi says:
Washington was a one off this season, they’re going to be over-confident for this year

Jun.26 at 12:32 pm

Keith says:
You put up a good argument, and although I think the Raptors will ultimately regret losing TJ Ford (it’s gonna leave them short of quality at the point) I think they’ll still get in. Jersey? You’re kissing me. Now THEY could have done with TJ. New York? I love D’Antoni but he’s gotta deconstruct that squad before they can start progressing to the playoffs. Too much badness going on in NY.

Jun.26 at 12:33 pm

Keith says:
Sorry about that FLUX. I must have plugged in my Amaechi keyboard. That was meant to be ‘kidding’ and not ‘kissing’.

Jun.26 at 12:34 pm

BETCATS says:
lol at the amaechi thing.

Jun.26 at 12:36 pm

Diesel says:
FLUX don’t forget my Bulls on that list. They’re going to get Elton Brand and draft Rose…they will be back atop the east next year

Jun.26 at 12:37 pm

Keith says:
What would you suggest they trade in order to get Brand, Diesel?

Jun.26 at 12:38 pm

albie1kenobi says:
whichever east team that lands elton brand will become a contender, because they are in the east.

Jun.26 at 12:38 pm

FLUXLAND says:
LOL.. no worries! I knew what you meant. I agree TJ will come back and hurt the Raps.. in a game … and trade wise. Like I said.. the last few spots are wide open. Anything could happen, but I believe the other teams have a better shot at them then the Raps. LB is coaching the Cats. NY will be fine..players love Mike and turnarounds in the East are easy to pull off. Who knows..maybe it will be a crazy race at the end like the West this year. Still, I don’t see the Raps in the mix. The mental fortitude is not there.. especially now that TJ is gone.

Jun.26 at 12:40 pm

BETCATS says:
i think Marion to the Bulls for Kirk Hindrick and Ty Thomas is a good idea. Stephen A Smith said something smart

Jun.26 at 12:41 pm

FLUXLAND says:
Diesel… DA BULLS!!! Yes, Sir! Very good point. My apologies. One cannot expect that team to crap their shorts like last year..then again the coach is highly suspect. I would say that is the biggest question mark there is with them.

Jun.26 at 12:41 pm

Keith says:
If Elton Brand started a franchise in the East by himself and was a one-man team, he’d still contend for the 8th spot.

Jun.26 at 12:42 pm

Lz - Cphfinest3 says:
2008/09 in Toronto goes like this: Jose is going to be an All-Star, Bosh is never gonna be a real stud (22/10 guy for life, very solid & good, but not great imo), JO is going to be injured, Raps are going to be the same decent team (probably with a slight improvement in reg. season because of Jose’s more minutes, youngsters coming into their own), they are still going out in the second round at the latest.

Jun.26 at 12:43 pm

BETCATS says:
Vinnie Del Negro translates to Vincent the Black. i thought that was funny.

Jun.26 at 12:45 pm

BETCATS says:
Jose being an allstar is a longshot. Too few people south of the border know of him.

Jun.26 at 12:47 pm

Diesel says:
Keith, I’d give them Hinrich, gordon, thomas, gooden, huges, or noccioni. Pick 2 or 3 of those guys for Brand. I know they need a point so I’d say Hinrich and gooden for Brand. And yes FLUX, its all dependent on the Bulls not taking a big dump during 75% of their games.

Jun.26 at 12:49 pm

FLUXLAND says:
Lz- Jose will get more minutes and be exposed. Can’t create his own shot.. can’t play D. No all-star.. no way in hell. Like BETCATS said.. the jig is up. Also. BET.. its actually Vinny of the Black. The Black would be Il Negro.

i think people are forgetting the fact that o’neal’s salary of 23 million comes off the books just in time for the wade/lebron/bosh free agency off season…not necessarily saying that wade or lebron would even consider playing in toronto but it does provide a great bargaining chip for potential trades

Jun.26 at 12:56 pm

BETCATS says:
who knows..

Jun.26 at 1:11 pm

Pretty good trade for the Raptors, except for the “giving up a mid 1st round draft pick” part.

Since there isnt a whole lot of competition in the East, I will say yes. If his knee holds up that is…

I see O’Neal as a Bosh plus 20-30 pounds. He isn’t really a post up guy but more of a jump shooter. The Raptors need is a center who can bang in the paint. Right now I think this was a bad trade especially considering what was given up. But i’m not the one making the decisions, so all I can do is sit back and be optimistic.

I hate this trade for us! But these guys have a pretty funny run down on what they’re calling the most injured trade in the world. http://thesportcount.wordpress.com/2008/06/26/the-most-injured-trade-in-the-world/

Sam Mitchell's Conscience says:
BETCATS, you post a little too much on here. This trade is decent for both sides in my opinion. I never expected this trade to go through, but I’m glad BC has the stones to do this one. It definitely improves our defense. I could say a lot more, but I don’t feel like it.

Toronto still needs a two guard that can beat people off the bounce. They’ve got shooters, they’ve got post play, they’ve got passers, but they need that guy they can throw the ball to that will beat his man and create a shot for himself. Also their defense is still questionable.

Ohpityme says:
I think its good that both teams have tryed to shake things up but honestly i think Indiana got the best deal here, they get a young point so they can dump tinsley and they get rid of JOs massive contract.
Whereas i dont know if this actually makes Toronto a better team.,well actually it does make them a better team but i dont think itll make a difference come playoff time.

Tyler says:
Hate to break it to you all but this trade makes the raptors the best or second-best team in the east. Not since duncan and robinson has the league seen two 20-10 guys play together. Couple that with Calderon, the most efficient player in the league last year (led it in ass-TO ratio), the best 3-point shooter in the history of the game (check basketballreference.com for that stat), a deep bench, and this team will be competing with a boston team that may just not be as lucky this year, in which case, the raptors will easily make it to the finals.

Jun.28 at 6:39 pm

Chris says:
Slow down tyler. JO hasn’t been 20-10 in a couple years and Boston won with their defense, something toronto has yet to prove. and they don’t have someone like pierce to carry the offense with things break down.

Jun.28 at 11:51 pm

tagz says:
@Tyler CB4. 20-10???? DON’T THINK SO. JO HAS NOT THAT BEEN CONSISTENT EITHER. AND SECOND BEST IN THE EAST, THAT WOULD BE A NO. YOU STILL HAVE THE CAVS AND THE PISTONS TO CONTEND WITH. THE RAPTORS HAVE TO PROVE THEY CAN PLAY DEFENSE BEFORE THEY CAN GET SECOND BEST STATUS.

Teddy-the-Bear says:
Either way, this was a very good trade because the Raptors needed to get rid of Ford. If Jermaine O’Neal is healthy, the Raptors with some good play can possibly movie into the third spot in the East. The Raptors have a decent starting line up, with the two all-star big men, with the underrated Anthony Parker and Calderon as the back court. Jamario Moon has potential to do some very good things for Toronto. The Raptors this coming season need to start giving Parker the ball more because the guy is a good scorer and he’s heavily underrated because he hasn’t been getting enough shots, thanks to the shoot-all point guard play of TJ Ford. But yeah, I have a good feeling this season about the best city in Canada’s club.

Joey says:
Raptors= Top 5 point guard in the league, Best 3point shooters in the league, and the two towers Chris Bosh & Jermaine O’neal. Can you say championship?
