Boston’s Tough ‘Escape’ from L.A.

by Marcel Mutoni

The Celtics and I had decidedly different experiences getting out of the city of Los Angeles yesterday.

Not only did the rental car company knock a bunch of money off the weekly rate for me when I brought the car back to LAX in the morning, but for reasons I have yet to completely understand, I was bumped up to first class during the five-hour flight back to Canada. Good times!

As for the Celtics’ travel day? Not so good times at all. Boston’s charter jet had a bit of trouble getting off the ground and out of Cali.

As of 4 p.m. EDT [Monday], the Celtics’ plane was still on the ground in Los Angeles due to mechanical issues.

Add this up with Ray Allen’s unfortunate family issues, and Kendrick Perkins’s injury, and the C’s have a bunch of perfectly built-in excuses should they drop Game Six on their homefloor and have to face an improbable Game Seven.

Us Laker fans can only wish.

Yeah, he did it to the Spurs too. I still see the Cs winning in 6 though.

i feel bad for ray’s child– just dont want to win that way—with a player distracted about his family—like i didnt want to “win” when i thought paul’s knee was messed up (dont ask me about that one right now)—–

Now we just have to hope that the refs aren’t wearing green and white this time.

Dear Lord, please let the C’s finish them off so we can all get on with our lives. Has there honestly ever been a more over-hyped finals with a bigger let down? I mean it was one of the best regular seasons ever and now we’re left with two teams battling to not lose the worst. “Hey this game I’ll go up 20 pts. and you come back, next game we’ll switch. Bring back hard fouls, no more refs getting in the way and let’s have them duke it out like it should be.

i feel like all the dudes on this site want reasons other than bball as excuses for what does/does not happen for their respective teams, dont weaken our sport with bs excuses, i for one have enjoyed the finals.

I bet some of the Celtics got injured while they were waiting on the plane to take off too.

I don’t really feel that the playoffs are that awful, but Froggiestyle is right, with such an AMAZING season, and even an amazing post-season, and a fantastic game 1, the finals really should be a bit better

I would be willing to bet money that David Stern had something to do with this, he’d do anything for a game 7.

this is nerve wrecking to Kobe and Garnett. They aren’t in their comfort zone. this is new territory for both guys. Garnett, to be in the finals and Kobe to be back in the Finals with out all those veteran guys and the big diesel! not to mention the pressure added on by the media and team legends i’m sure its very nerve wrecking

Off topic but: I was really rooting for Rocco to best Tiger yesterday. The guy is cool as hell and although i dont really know/care about golf he’s rapidly ascended my list of atheletes I like. Sorry, I didnt have anywhere else to say so.
Hmmm….
Kobe = Tiger // Pierce = Mediate (???) …grizzled vet, hasn’t “won” in 6 years (PP-ECF in 2002)facing the supremely confident/competeive “best player in the world”, who’s sort of a mystery in his personal life…

There’s no mystery about Kobe or Tiger’s personal lives.

ciolk:….that is a horrible comparison. Mediate was ranked 158th in the world. PP has always been acknowledged, if not fully as he should, as one of the League’s best. PP’s C’s beating the Lakers would be no surprise. Rocco knocking off Tiger would have been one of the greatest upsets in golf.
But has there ever been a more dominant athlete in their sport? Wow.

I think Pierce is carrying the celtics threw the finals. Ray Allen is doing pretty good but I still think he could do better. But KG needs to step his game up. But I think Boston is going to win in game 7. GO CELTIC!!!!!!
