This Doug Collins-to-Chicago Thing Will Happen

by Marcel Mutoni

Doug Collins and the Chicago Bulls organization did their best to diffuse the situation yesterday, with both parties coming out and saying that nothing has been offered (nor accepted.) But it doesn’t take Nostradamus to figure out that Collins will become the head coach of the Bulls in the very near future.

It’s going to happen.

During the Lakers/Spurs game last night, Marv Albert joked about how he’d now twice chased Doug Collins off - the first time being when Doug took the coaching job in Washington. He all but admitted that he was just waiting for TNT’s coverage of the West Finals to conclude so he can fly to Chicago.

Get ready, Bulls fans.

Prepare for the man that your organization gave his first head coaching gig in the ’80s; a brilliant basketball mind. The man who players - due to his incessantly critical, grating style - typically tune out in less than three years. The man who’s now going to be trusted with bringing along the top pick in this year’s draft (word to Kwame Brown).

So, yeah, good luck with all of that.

First Steve Kerr, then Dougey fresh? When will the madness of commentors leaving end. They just need to get Reggie Miller’s ass off the damn t.v. now.

i think John Paxson got roughed up by the CIA. Doug Collins has been assigned to a black-op mission. frustrate the people of Chicago by building a young, successful, upstart Bulls team and then throw a wrench in the championship hopes by appointing a dusty obscure curmudgeon with great imcommunicable designs and an unsympathetic attitude towards young talent as coach and watch Bulls fans suffer and fret and desperately complain about their trying situation and high gas prices and then, step in with the solution: one world government, monarched by Avery Johnson, new dictator of the cosmos!

They should have hired Kevin Loughery or Stan Albeck. Maybe even Phil Johnson. I’m in denial and staying there.

I’d have gone w/Avery & drafted Rose myself, PG for the PG coach. I could see Avery end up in PHX or Motown if Flip gets canned

Ohpityme says:
Yeah JoeGym I mos def think Avery is the best coaching option for them(and a few other teams too).
I would have hired Avery and got him to whip Hinrich into shape and drafted Beasley…after all these years of not having a post scorer they cant turn one down now!

Doug Collins was the best choice out there. Avery Johnson would be not be a good coach for the Bulls’ young crew. If he couldn’t get an already-developed Nowitzki & company over the hump, how is he going to help out Noah, Thomas, and Derrick Rose? And yes, it will be Derrick Rose. Just because Beasley dominated the post in college doesn’t mean it’ll happen in the pros, against SFs the same size, but quicker, and PFs two or three inches taller. The Bulls will hire Doug Collins, and announce that Jeff Hornacek (Asst HC), Scottie Pippen, and Bill Cartwright are his assistants. Then the Bulls will draft Derrick Rose. Whether they keep Hinrich or Gordon will depend on which one they can trade, as they’re likely stuck with Larry Hughes. Jerry Reinsdorf will not mind paying more money due to the excitement that a local player like Derrick Rose will bring to United Center. There have been many fans who did not renew season tickets because of the disaster of Jim Boylan and last season. Then the Golden Goose laid one right in Paxson’s lap. If he picks Beasley, the fans will be much less forgiving.
