I call bullsh!t!!! on the league. (and agree with Izzo.) Its bringing the game into disripute.

. We should get all the soccer players to vote.
Thanks E
May.29 at 10:26 am
Eboy says:
Hursty, why do you think it will be hard to govern or bring the game into dispute? Elaborate please.

H to the izzo says:
This basically whenever someone who has a reputation for flopping falls on the ground they’ll get fined. How can they judge whether or not someone has flopped.”Oh Manu fell-fine him”,”Pierce fell,oh that’s ok,he never does it”.

If it’s Stu pulling the trigger, good luck with that. Anyone here trust his judgement? Nothing against this otherwise.

MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNUUUUUUUUUUUUUU…. finally..but do you guys think the refs can be consistant in their calls?
May.29 at 10:30 am
Eboy says:
Izzo, I would bet you that it won’t be as big a deal as you would think. I would imagine it is more of a “threat” that will permiate into the consistent floppers minds to keep their antics to a minimum and that after review of tape, it’s usually pretty easy to see who is overacting and who’s not.
May.29 at 10:36 am
H to the izzo says:
“but in-game arena observers and video reviewers will be instructed to report instances of theatrical flopping”.
I can’t see how this is anything other than targeting guys who already have a reputation, which is all well and good, but it must be a blanket rule for everybody. This will either be over-regulated or not at all.
May.29 at 10:37 am
H to the izzo says:
I would like there to be a rule against Bruce Bowen.
-
And if the NBA have time, they should consider banning traveling also.
May.29 at 10:37 am
Tuomas says:
Best case scenario: this will be a somewhat abstract threat that the players adjust to accordingly, and we see a decrease in flopping without much publicity. Worst case scenario: an enforcing fiasco and loads of controversy. I’ll side with the former for now. Thank God Vlade’s retired though.
May.29 at 10:41 am
Eboy says:
Obviously it’s for the repeat offenders, izzo, but there are plenty of “non-typical” floppers (Chauncey, Rip, D-Wade, Derek Fisher, Nash, Ben Wallace) just to name a few, who hopefully will be persuaded to “man up” instead of being on the ground or flying through the air like they were shot short range by a shotgun with the slightest of contact.

izzo_ then Lebron gets his 3 step dunks and Kobe gets…. what he alreay gets.

Hursty says:
E: the flopping is bringing the game into disripute, the officiating is sh!thouse and biased, the media is generally aggressive (esp. N.Y) and does little to work with the positives of the game instead highlighting the flopping and bad calls etc. im tired and cant think straight, sorry if its incohesive.
May.29 at 10:45 am
WhaHuh says:
Its odd how these “non-typical” floppers are all from North America (dont forget CP3). The media is demonising foreign players for the same things.
May.29 at 10:46 am
Hursty says:
E- dispripute (making it worse/bad)
May.29 at 10:47 am
H to the izzo says:
I think outlawing dirty play and stray elbows(which isn’t necessarily making the sport a p*ssy sport) is much more important than punishing flopping. But hey, flopping seems to be the hot button issue and the NBA are nothing if not fashionable.
May.29 at 10:47 am
Silky Slim says:
The NBA has started to look more like professional soccer with all the flopping that’s going on.
May.29 at 10:48 am
Hursty says:
well, the media is correct in calling out the floppers, make them stop the flopping because its not in the spirit of the game. ‘thats a mother fu(king foul’ etc. blah blah blah.
May.29 at 10:49 am
Hursty says:
I know slim. I know. ^^ above.
May.29 at 10:49 am
Silky Slim says:
Also, the NBA should institute a rule that says if a player is fined for (X) number of flops, he will be suspended for a game, which would be similar to the technicial foul rule.

guys i’m sorry to put it here, but maybe some celtic fan can help me out
do any of you know another habit, BESIDES light up the cigar, that red auerbach had “on the court”, or, when he was on the bench? thanks guys i’m with Izzo on this one.

ufn=fun says:
I’m not sure how this is gonna play out, as far as fines go, but its better than nothing.
May.29 at 10:55 am
Eboy says:
I forgot CP3. The nice thing is all the guys mentioned are terrificly talented enough to eliminate that bullsh*t from their games. Those “foreign” floppers, with the exception of Manu, Dirk and Mr. Longoria, are really not at that talent level to level out their antics and just play ball.
May.29 at 10:58 am
H to the izzo says:
Does Parker flop,he is really small and really fast, not unusual to lose footing when you are both these things.*kills self for defending Parker*
May.29 at 11:01 am
Eboy says:
izzo, he rarely get’s to the basket without landing on his ass, with or without contact, so I would consider that a flop unless he is really uncoordinated when it comes to driving layups, which we know he is not.
May.29 at 11:06 am
Silky Slim says:
Parker flops every time he drives to the basket. He always falls to the floor like someone fouled him. That’s flopping, too!
May.29 at 11:08 am
Silky Slim says:
Most players in the league fall to the floor after shooting the ball or driving to the basket in an attempt to draw a foul.
May.29 at 11:08 am
The Best Yet says:
is traveling still a rule? Kobe took like 12 steps in his layup attempt last night. I guess cuz its Kobe that that makes 3+ steps ok.
May.29 at 11:21 am
Jess says:
haha so true about the travelling..but if people want to see travelling called all the time they better tune into games that Violet Palmer calls or the WNBA
May.29 at 11:26 am
Jess says:
oh and..Tony Parker definately flops
May.29 at 11:29 am
Cub Buenning says:
AR, you are so right. I would rather they focus on one of the game’s basic tenants and instead fine those guys who use that double hop move that for some reason is NEVER called. You can only jump once with the ball. Why is such a basic rule ignored at the highest level of competition? Jess, why the hate towards women?
Women’s hoops does, however, have their own version: the double pivot, step-through move where the pivot foot is changed.
May.29 at 11:30 am
Froggiestyle says:
Thank you and finally. Now they have to do the same for that dirty bowen move of trailing your foot under the shooter when he’s in the air hoping he’ll land on your foot, turn his ankle and be out 3-6 weeks. I sincerely hope this will be added to the list. (PS. I got nothin against bowen as a guy, i mean he can ball, just dont try to intentionally injure a guy …. dat snit aint right)
May.29 at 11:35 am
Jess says:
Cub,there is obviously no hate towards women…Im just saying the game is so different and called differently..Ive tried to get into the WNBA..its just not happening…

jess, just playing.
I watched opening night with LA v. Phx, which was pretty dope. Candace is ridic. AR, do they let guys pick up the ball just outside the 18 and throw it into the goal in soccer?
Seems similar.
Dribbling with hands v. feet.

every player in the league is a flopper its just the way they basketball now, players on offense overreact all the time defensive players overreact all the time. They need the players to not like each other the nba players are to friendly with each other, really they will stop floppin nobody wants to get fine

in theory I love the idea, but I think we’re going to open a can of worms with this…
May.29 at 1:21 pm
RV says:
why don’t the refs just NOT CALL it, that’s all they need to do, once the players see its not being called consistently they’ll stop. This still doesn’t solve in game calls. What happenes if a player flops, the refs call it a foul, and then the NBA determines the player deserves to be fined? I’m sure players will not be reluctant to open their checkbooks if a flop gets them the call at a crucial time in the playoffs.

Is Kobe shouting when he gets contact a flop? is it a psychological trick or just annoying habbit?
May.29 at 2:17 pm
BxBaller says:
YES, I expect people like Varejao, Scalabrine, Jason Collins, and Oberto to be out of the league in a year.
May.29 at 2:42 pm
nothin personal says:
This is really stupid for three reasons:
a)It will never be applied (ok, maybe a token fine to Manu in the begining and then nada). If they don’t fine Bowen for his sh!t, they will never do it to a flopper. In soccer, there is a rule for dis-crediting the sport. Well, in the last Eurocup, two Scandinavian countries were passing to each other without ever attacking (they wereholding on a 2-2 draw to eliminate Italy) and they weren’t even fined. This is the same kind of rule. Too vague.
b)It’s worth a fine to win a critical game. I bet teams would even find ways to repay thr players. It would be much better to make it a technival foul call.
c)It’s just too fine a line. There is a lot of flopping, and only a small portion of it is really obvious, esp in offence. Where do you draw the line?

k.o. says:
i dunno about this - obviously the excessive floppers should be reprimanded, but a flop occurs after a player has been bumped from their position in a space that they occupy - which is why a charge is called as long as the defender is there before the contact. Just because some guys flail to draw attention doesn’t mean its a flop. if they fall without contact, than i’m all for fining these guys, but if the officials have the eyesight of , say, Joey Crawford, making the accurate call consistently will be impossible.
May.29 at 5:08 pm
youngmuggsy says:
The floppers only flop because they don’t get the superstar calls that guys like lebron and kobe get. They have to sell fouls to even the odds.
May.29 at 5:11 pm
youngmuggsy says:
Thats the truth and david stern and all the lebron, kobe, wade etc superfans need to accept that. This should be about preserving the game we love, not punishing people with bad reputations.
May.29 at 5:43 pm
RV says:
another problem is, do they fine ALL flopping, or just what was incorrectly called a foul? My guess its only what’s called, but it should be consistent.

rabn21 says:
this will be policed for the first few months and then forgotten about. and they will never take travelling out of the game because scoring will drop dramatically and they want to keep the highlight plays, there is just too much of it going on!!!
