Rick Carlisle Wants Ron Artest Back in His Life

by Marcel Mutoni

The enduring image - the one that will remain with us forever - from the brief Rick Carlisle/Ron Artest marriage in Indy is that of Ron Ron pummeling Detroit Pistons fans in their seats.

Despite that, Carlisle sounds like he’d be more than willing to give coaching Artest another shot, this time in Dallas.

“Of course,” said Carlisle, who coached Artest in Indiana. “This guy is one of the real difference-makers that we have in this league. He’s had one all-star year; that’s when he played for me. I’ve had a chance to reconnect with Ronnie a couple times over the last couple of years. I love him and I love his family, so yeah. This guy was one of the most physical, intimidating players that I’ve ever seen at the small forward position, so he’d be a player that any team would want to have.”

Rick’s candidness shouldn’t come as a surprise, as the Mavs are believed to be looking to move Josh Howard this summer.

The Kings are loathe to unload the talented Artest, but his tenure in a Sacramento uniform is a day-to-day adventure. Getting a guy in return (Howard) who can not only play, but simply wants to be left alone with his blunt, might not be such a bad deal.

If he can control him, it’s a good move.

If he can get Ron Ron AND Whooo, Dallas would be ridiculous.

i believe the fans had leapt from their seats in terror by the time ron ron had arrived, but your point is well taken

I definitly want to see Dirk trying to to speak to artest and begging him to calm down in a close game.

i must say, all the pokes at howard are getting a little old. i loved the slamonline headline, something like “josh howard is more honest than other pot smokers” right? i mean, yeah, stupid thing to say no doubt, but the bigger problem is that he SUCKED in the playoffs this year, and i would wager that it wasnt because he was too high. so please, lets try to “stay classy san diego”…

BETCATS says:
if they trade Dirk and trade Josh Howard, keep Asson Kidd and get Artest + whoever they get for Dirk, i might like the Mavs a little more

Eazy-Yi says:
Ron would’ve killed David West for that slap on Dirk, No Doubt.
It would be a good move for Dallas, they already have two fairly consistent scorers and Ron can run with Kidd if that’s who they’re gonna keep

i’m still hoping he ends up in Houston, i think he’s exactly what they need

Kadavour says:
All this Ron Artest is crazy and uncontrollable talk is just ridiculous. yea, there was that brawl at the palace and dude is an outspoken personality, but he’s no malcontent. ANY team would be blessed to have him and he’d remain a class act on said squad.

Bryant Reeves says:
Ron Ron on Dallas would be great, but isn’t Jo-Ho a little too much to pay? RonRon’s contract is up soon…

Ed O'Brien says:
San Antonio has Bowen, Houston has Battier, now Dallas will have Artest.

DP says:
Dirk needs a influence with some nuts so he can learn to grasp the concept of having nuts when it counts. Ron Ron will be that person to teach him these things and I bet for damn sure David West ain’t putting his hands on Ron Artest.

DP says:
Howard is a p*ssy player too.

May.15 at 12:01 pm

RV says:
i would rather have Artest than Battier and Bowen combined, its not even fair to compare them

May.15 at 12:12 pm

Kadavour says:
Yea RV, of those 3, Ron is the only one who can give you 20+ AND excellent defense and intimidation. Don’t get me started on Dirk’s Soft a$s. It was sooo funny seeing the sports media run to his rescue after D. West TAPPED HIS SH!T lmao. Honestly, i’d rather get snuffed than have someone tap my jaw with no retaliation like that. How is Dirk’s son supposed to view that? And don’t give me that good role model bull either. Maybe a fight is what Dallas needed, cuz they got their butts whipped ANYWAY.

If this leads to the rebirth of Ron-Ron then I’m all for it. He hasn’t been the beast he was since he left Indy.

Rv u are buggin. bowen is criminally underrated. a true stopper w/o all the craziness potential that artest has

May.15 at 12:37 pm

Kadavour says:
when was the last time Artest has done something crazy since the Palace? I’d take inspired craziness on defense PLUS significant offensive production before i run with Bowen any day. Plus, Ron is bigger and stronger and more versatile. Bruce may be better at taking out shooter’s legs moving his feet, but it’s not much of a trade off for what Ron brings to the table

Kevin says:
Ron Artest > Josh Howard

May.15 at 1:19 pm

B. Long says:
Look, I love Ron Ron’s game. I actually believe he can still be an All-Star caliber player IF HE WANTS TO. Kadavour, you keep saying “What has he done since the Palace?”,over and over so I guess you forgot about how he sh!tted all over the Pacers after he was reinstated with his retirement talk/Tru Warrior B.S. Then there was that time he forgot to feed the dogs…for a month. Not to mention the constant “Trade me, Don’t Trade me,I love SacTown” lunacy. The man obviously has issues but so did Rodman and he was still effective. He just has to make up his mind to cut the b.s. and play ball. He needs a coach like Paul Silas.

RV says:
Are u kidding Khalid? About my comment, not yours.

May.15 at 1:39 pm

Brandon Hoffman says:
Acquiring someone with Artest’s skill is a no-brainer. It’s Ron-Ron’s brain that should be in question.

if ron ron turns dirk into some gangsta sh!t, dallas’d be fun to watch. put ron ron in the post and leave dirk as the jump shooter outside. the SF who plays big and the PF who plays small. sounds like a match.

Ron will kill Dirk when softy fails to come through for him.

May.16 at 12:26 am

RedRum says:
I have always seen Ron as the missing link for the Cavs. I think they need to make a run at him. It is a risk, but if it works out the Cavs get is dynasty mode. imagine a lebron-Ron backourt… You can hear the sound of crashing bones…

May.16 at 5:57 am

Ed O'Brien says:
In fact, I would consider this move ( Ron Ron for Josh Howard ) a bad move.

May.16 at 2:42 pm

The Promise says:
I think its a good idea, cause the Mavs as a team, not just Dirk, need a rough-necked dude that will toughen up their girly rumps. Go get him Cuban.

I wanted this trade b4 we hired carlisle…get some defense and a better shooter here.
