Arenas’s Future is Tied to Jamison’s
Re-iterating what he said months ago, Gilbert Arenas has once again let it be known that if the Washington Wizards don’t re-sign teammate Antawn Jamison this summer, then he’s a goner, too.
The future is the future. I want to be back in Washington, but weird things happen in free agency. If Antawn is not back, then there’s no point in me coming back because he’s part of my success, too.
When you’re doing pick and roll with a player like him, they can’t double you, they can’t trap you because you have a pick and pop guy who can shoot the three at your four position. My success is because of him too. If he doesn’t come back, I’m not coming back.
So, there you have it. The work for the Wizards’ front-office has been cut out for them. And hey, no pressure, Antawn. Your decision this summer is only a potentially franchise-changing one.
If Gil is healthy - and that’s a big if - I don’t see how Washington doesn’t try to keep their Big Three together this summer. The Wizards may have played well without Arenas’s services this season, but I’m not convinced they’re a better team without him (especially on the offensive end.) And last time I checked, 25+ points/game scorers don’t exactly grow on trees.

Hey Gil, the Timberwolves need all the help they can get. Please help, please. Oh and Antawn, don’t go back to the Wizards. You don’t really wanna keep playing with DeShawn Stevenson do you?

Regardless, the Wizards need a big man, or they won’t be going anywhere.

They need to put jamison at the 3 but i don’t know if his ball handling is good enough. i say it worth a try. they aren’t that far away from being a true contender. jamison is cool but the wiz need interior defense and rebounding bad. and even though his stats say he’s good rebounder, anyone who watched him play no not to trust those stats. he’s solid but they need another guy to help. if caron can play the 2 and they get a real pf i think they’ll be alright. haywood is serviceable at center and stevenson can some off the bench with daniels and blatche. thats a good bench. But everything hinges on what they do at the 4. through draft or free agency they must address this because the cavs big men were beasting the boards like crazy

Wouldn’t you rather have Monta Ellis at $13-14 million than Gilbert Arenas? Especially given their age and injury history? While Monta has less range, he is more athletic and much more efficient scorer.

Gil is a funny guy. I think he will stay in Wash because Antwawn is going to stay as well. The X-factor for their team is CARON BUTLER. Somebody better pay that dude.

Agreed, Khalid. Gil has to prove his health and endurance before a deal is done.

I exaggerate but they need a good centre who can dominate to move to the next level, and out of the 1st round

I think what Gilbert is offering to do is commendable but I’m interested to see exactly how much $ he’s willing to sacrifice…

Gil is too concerned with his paper and the player he was LAST YEAR and coming back and looking weak and out of sync with the teamhurt his stock a little. The best move for him would probably be to ink a short term deal at decent money. B/C he ain’t gettin no max isht right now. I remember reading a quaote after one of the big Wiz losses against the cavs, Gil was like ” I just wanted to say gimme the ball and let me take care of this. But, this year we’ve played differently. You know passing the ball around” what a team player. There is definitely an “I” in Gilbert.

I’m thinking that PHI might wanna pay Caron before they pay Andre I…..ideas??
Would Elton be free to pick his team next season? Washington would be a nice fit…but man thats a small line up.
BRAND - C 6′8
JAMISON - F 6′9
BUTLER - F 6′7
ARENAS - G 6′4
…Umm…we need a shooting guard too…

…hmm… Unless you move everyone down a spot on the line up and have a seven footer in the pivot….

hey just putting this out there..not saying the salary cap will work or nything…but what bout either jermaine o’neal or elton brand to the wiz?
if they could somehow keep gil, jamison n caron plus one of those bigmen..would be a nice team there

Westy says:
Kruges, that’s a salary cap nightmare… can’t see it happening. I think Haywood stays at 5 and they give it another run. Best bet is to draft a solid 4 to solve the rebounding issues.

Can’t really blame him, it’s similar to what happened with Kobe last Summer. He wants to see a commitment to winning by management, by not dishing out the money to sign their best player, they obviously aren’t committed to winning.
