Worthy of Your Attention
There’s a good chance that we’ll see the first elimination of the 2008 NBA Playoffs tonight. Should be fun. A quick look at this evening’s games:
Toronto @ Orlando, Game 5: The Raptors are fighting for their playoff lives, and Sam Mitchell is trying to save his job. In other words, there should be plenty of desperation on the Toronto side of the ball. Whether that translates into the series shifting back to Canada for Game 6 is an entirely different story.
Boston @ Atlanta, Game 4: Can the Hawks shock the world by tying up the series? Probably not, but at least they’re keeping it interesting.
(The funniest thing I’ve read regarding this series is the following from a commenter over at Free Darko. It was prompted by Al Horford screaming at a fallen Paul Pierce in Game 3: Dude’s on the ground first off, and I have to imagine Pierce was thinking, “I’ve been stabbed by better men than you.”)
L.A. Lakers @ Nuggets, Game 4: The Lakers have a chance to sweep the Nuggets, and put them out of their gnawing misery tonight.
Hey, remember when Iverson was traded to Denver and everyone got really excited that he’d finally have a chance to get that elusive title? Nope, me neither.

I feel like the Nuggs might win, followed by a game 5 drubbing in LA. The Magic will win too, but I still won’t care.

The saddest thing about Iverson being in Denver now is that the Sixers could be up 3-1 on the Pistons if Allen was on the team. With him at the 2 instead of Willie Green they would have Detroit begging for mercy.

But B. Long: you think Pau is containing Duncan? Yeah, me neither.

Reggie Evans says:
Tenorca - Pau’s long arms bother Duncan on defense. Also, Pau can single cover Duncan and do a competent job. Look up their head to heads. I’ll do it now.

the only reason they won 2 games to begin with is because they simply caught the Pistons off guard, but now they have woke up, and they dont really have a chance now… you look what they done in the 3rd quarter, what if they would have done that in the first place? You guessed it, they would be down 3-0 right now… When they decide to play, only the top teams can beat them… I still think they will win the title over the Lakers because I just dont believe they can win it without Andrew Bynum…he is the differnce maker for them, the X factor…when they come up against a team that has any kind of post threat, they are going to have trouble…the Pistons are my team and until somebody beats them they are my pick to win the NBA championship…GUARANSHEED!!!

Reggie Evans says:
Duncan vs Gasol this year: 7-15, 19 points, 9 reb …14-17, 28 points, 9 reb …10-20, 24 points, 17 reb … that’s when Gasol was on Memphis … Against Lakers, Duncan was 6-19, 16 points, 12 reb … No Ginobili … just putting the stats out there, not very conclusive … I recall that Duncan did not have to be double teamed much against Lakers …

I believe that they’ll eventually end up sweeping the Neggets, because like I said in my previous post the Nuggets offense is totally incumbent on AI and Melo to score, if Melo doesn’t step in this series then they’re done, besides they’re imploding anyway. I think that AI better leave Denver if he wants to save his career and salvage some vestige respect and dignity.

Reggie Evans: Well, those stats certainly trend towards “Pau can hold his own,” I’ll give you that. It’d be a good series, regardless though. Playoff Timmy is a different Timmy—he shoots the three ball for crying out loud. And as much as Kobe infuriates me, I’d like to see him eviscerate Bowen.

And B_Easy: I think AI has plenty of respect and dignity. That’s just me…and 98% of the basketball viewing public.

AI is living the dream of all 6 footers with a basketball jones. He coulda played football, baseball, whatever, but he loved basketball. Can you imagine AI as a lead-off hitter? Just make contact, he’d be like brown Ichiro.

Any truth to the rumor that Kenny Smith will interview for the Knicks GM or assistant GM position? Donnie Walsh is the Kicks president, so that could be possible.

Yeah, Iversons “respect and dignity” is fine and isn’t going anywhere…Carmelo is the one that is losing mad respect from people right now. But I do agree Iverson needs to leave because its more then obvious that he is on a team that isn’t committed to winning. Even if he doesn’t win a title before he retires, as a b-ball fan I at least want to see him on a team that is contending untill retirement.
