Three Returns, Two Surprises

by Marcel Mutoni

Three of the biggest stars in the League stepped on the floor after lenghty absences last night. Elton Brand, Gilbert Arenas and Dirk Nowitzki all played.

Brand’s return to the court had been expected for days, and he played well, scoring 19 and snatching 5 boards in an easy win over the hapless Sonics.

“To be able to go out there and compete and help us get a win … that was great,” Brand said.

Gilbert, perhaps not surprisingly, made a dramatic entrance in the Bucks/Wizards game during the first quarter last night. Of course, no one was expecting him to suit up prior to the game. Unfortunately for Gil and the Wiz, the amazingly-named Ramon Sessions won the game for Milwaukee at the buzzer.

Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavs played a little April Fool’s joke on the Warriors, as the big German was surprisingly game-ready. Prior to the game, the Mavs pretended as if Dirk was still injured, and Golden State wasn’t ready for him.

“Nellie taught me that,” Avery Johnson said with a big smile.

Should have saved the trickery for the Playoffs, coach.

As if Warriors Game Plan ever changes… they play exactly same way no matter who’s the opponent..

Rasheed has it right. The Warriors don’t change for anything! Dirk definitely needed to get out there though, his shot was flat and it seemed like he was having to jump off both feet for that fade away of his (I think normally he leans off the injured ankle). But glad that Avery could get a giggle out of it all. He deserves at least that after last year.
