Spurs - Suns Playoff Preview

Snappy

By Jake Appleman

They hate each other.

Discuss.

(Also, for your viewing pleasure, Speedy Gonzalez in “Mexican Boarders”, my metaphor for the series.)

Suns in 6. I just see it happening in the near future man. I also see my boy Amare knocking the f*ck out of Bruce Bowen but hey I’m no physic.

Jake, I love Speedy Gonzalez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The hate each other. Pretty straightforward. Also, for a more wordy preview, click my link for my Spurs/Suns pick.

So is Speedy Barbosa and Slow Poke Shaq? Also who’s doing the voiceover, Najera?

Funny, but Spurs in 6

Tom says:
I think i mentioned it in the post-up a few days ago but Shaq almost always gives the spurs problems. Now this is obviously not the same shaq, but just him being there, I think he’ll be able to bother Duncan and I don’t think Parker will be getting too many easy lay-ups with shaq roaming around. I have a feeling shaq will be given out some extra hard fouls in this series just to send a message.

Spurs will be spurned in 6.

it’s good for the suns that they meet spurs this early in the playoffs, because if they meet in WCF, i’m pretty certain shaq will not have anything left and pick up cheap/lazy fouls that will dramatically change the dynamic of the games.
i’m hoping for the spurs to advance, but i think they will go down in a hard fought 7 game series.

Jim Mora says:
what about matt bonner?
seriously though, I think that Duncan will be better than 18 and 10. He’ll be more like 25 and 12, since no one can guard him consistently trhough the game: Stoudemire does not play D, Shaq would get in foul trouble, and skinner will not play more than 5 min ( we’re talking about mike d’antoni her). STAT will definitely score 30-35 each game but that’s precisely the point: remember 2005, the strategy was to let him score at will and to guard the perimeter.
I see three X factors: Duncan banking shots, Shaq avoiding foul trouble and Manu being Manu

oh yeah and spurs in six

the BEST SERIES of the first round, and y’all are too lazy to put out a freakin preview? the video’s cute, but that’s kinda pathetic fellas. i look forward to your stuff cuz it’s far more entertaining and reliable than espn and the rest. step it up.

Apr.18 at 10:31 pm

Joel O's says:
Doubt Timmy at your own risk, but I’m going with the Spurs in 7. That said, here’s how to beat the Spurs: get Amare to go Mo Lucas on Bruce Bowen.

“Only the fastest mouse can make it, which is me. Not the slowest mouse, which is you!” Awesome metaphor, Jake. So I guess Shaq’s new nickname is “The Big Slowpoke Gonzalez”. It’s fitting that the real Slowpoke is always hungry. Holy frijoles indeed. Also, since you didn’t actually pick a winner, I assume we should read more into “Mexican Boarders” and surmise that you’re going with the Suns in seven?

Apr.19 at 4:29 am

Tariq says:
By the way, I was shocked at how easily Slowpoke hypnotized Sylvester. I thought Speedy’s cousin was doomed for sure. This metaphor is surprisingly thought-provoking. Or maybe I should stop smoking random stuff I find in the backyard.

Doc Fan says:
Ummmmmm……
Who watches nba games nowadays?
Gasol gives Duncan problems.
Sahq gives duncan problems.
Pretty much if your 7 feet or over and can jump and have a wingspan,u give timmy problems.
As long as a team has a defender who can guard timmy 1 on 1,this team will struggle to score.

Best first round series this year. Phoenix in six.

My kid liked this preview. Mostly the last part.

Jukai says:
You know… there must be some basketball diety that prevents Phoenix from beating San Antonio. It must be a godly affair. Cause this is a joke.

RV says:
incredible first game, i can’t even imagine how any of the rest could be better

Apr.19 at 6:35 pm

Myles Brown says:
Game one to the gatos. One of the best games Ive ever seen.

Apr.19 at 6:37 pm

RV says:
well, they’re still having defensive let downs, in the past they were during stretches of the games, this time around they are only on certain plays, but very important ones

Apr.19 at 6:40 pm

RV says:
i just wished that last shot would have been tougher than the rest to finish the game with the greatest shot of all, but incredible how both teams stepped up on both offense and defense at crucial times, Amare needs to learn to stay in games against the suns…

Apr.19 at 6:47 pm

Tariq says:
Are you kidding me? Duncan sends the game into double overtime with a THREE?! Even when the Spurs were down 16 in the first half, I was nervous. F*ckin Spurs.

Apr.19 at 6:50 pm

RV says:
diaw should have passed to Shaq on that last drive, and some great coaching by Pop on the finley 3 and that last play

Apr.19 at 6:55 pm

sab says:
jukai, that ain’t how u spell “deity” - i thought u were talking about weight-loss… incredible game. the suns make too many mistakes at crucial times. it looked like there was no plan for what to do if nash actually hit that shot. ginobili just walked up to the basket at the end, too easy. that Duncan shot was amazing.

Apr.19 at 6:57 pm

peteb80 says:
Oh Amare, three turnovers in overtime when they could have had it.

Apr.19 at 7:14 pm

Tariq says:
Oh, I forgot to say: F*ckin Spurs.

Apr.19 at 9:06 pm

wow double OT. wow.

Game 1…..instant classic!

Apr.21 at 1:46 am

Dacre says:
Awesome. The Suns are going to take it to the Sours every single game this series. I’m at work every day this series is on game-day and I just listen to the game through nba.com - much to everyone elses dismay…. hey as a side point the Suns get the 15th pick in the draft next year?! I can’t wait for that right off the back of a championship season. ^_^

Tariq says:
Dacre: Don’t hold your breath.
