Lang, do the right thing, pick the little guy, as SLAM has always been viewed in that light by the rest of the media. Plus he’s not a Canadian, so it would make sense!!!! CP34MVP

Myles: Chris Paul spells his first name with a “C,” not a “K.” Sloppiness like that is how bloggers get a bad name.

vtrobot says:
distant 3rd? dang. i’m very sorry that someone as deserving as kobe hasn’t received one yet. doesn’t mean he should get one this year. it’s between KG and CP3, and i’d give it to CP3. watched the footage last night of the game (high school?) when he scored 61 to honor his grandfather. WOW. as a 3rd year player, with that much personnel responsibility each possesion, while having that team atop of this western conference, is completely ridiculous. Celts/Wiz should be interesting tonight even though boston’s bench might be seeing a lot of time. aren’t the wiz the only team to have beaten the C’s twice this season?

Apr.9 at 3:41 pm

namik says:
Hey it’s not Chris Paul’s fault that his teammates are NOT hurt so why penalize him for that?

Apr.9 at 3:43 pm

namik says:
But it IS Kobes fault that his teammates are hurt. He kicked Bynums knee till it dislocated and then turned Pau Gasols ankle intentionally. You know, so he could be a hero. When that wasn’t enough, he dislocated his own pinkie and partially ruptereda tendon in Fishs foot. So yeah, he should be penalized for that.

iLL wiLL says:
Cee Pee Three. There is no way this guy SHOULDN’T get the MVP award. The Hornets are nothing without him. Tyson Chandler owes his career revival to Chris Paul. How was David West selected to the allstar game? Chris Paul. Peja has come back due to the play of CP3. How does MoPete have a job as a starting 2 guard on a first place team in the toughest conference in the world? Chris Paul. I mean, besides Lebron and Paul, nobody is worthy of this MVP talk.

Apr.9 at 3:50 pm

iLL wiLL says:
Simply put, if Paul doesn’t win the MVP award, I’m never subscribing to SLAM again. No, just kidding, I’d never do that. Unless they jacked up the subscription fee.

Apr.9 at 3:53 pm

TMT says:
iLL wiLL, Tyson Chandler has never had a career, to say Paul revived him is a lie… HE MADE HIM. As a Laker fan I want Kobe to win, does he deserve it? He does. Does Chris Paul deserve it? Yes he does. CO-MVP’s? Not going to happen. At least it’s not Dirk.

sorta feel bad for ray allen and paul pierce that kg gets ALL of the credit for the celtics success.

Do you think the team would be just as good without KG?

Apr.9 at 4:40 pm

Ben Osborne says:
Lang, did they poll you??

Apr.9 at 6:32 pm

Clendon says:
Kobe’s Stats are exactly the same as last year and the year before! plus the only reason they are in the playoffs is because of pau and odom staying healthy! Lebron and CP3 have all improved and they have had pretty much NO big time star to help!!

Apr.9 at 6:53 pm

Allen says:
“If CP3 is MVP, then Deron Williams is the G.O.A.T.”

Apr.9 at 8:18 pm

TMT says:
Agreed.

Apr.9 at 8:56 pm

tealish says:
CP3 should be the MVP. I sure hope the voters don’t pick up the mentality that reasons Paul will have another 13 or so years to get his, while this could be Kobe’s last chance so let’s give it to Bryant.
Lang, you’re better than that.

Apr.9 at 10:14 pm

Dacre says:
Kobe could be the lone all start and put up 30 shots a game… Kobe could be on a team with three allstars and still put up 30 shots a game….that aint no MVP. CP3.

Apr.9 at 10:52 pm

Robbi says:
What if the NBA decided to stall the award again and give it to whoever gets his team to the 2nd round? It will be a cold day in hell before Stern allows a repeat of last year.

Apr.9 at 10:55 pm

Robbi says:
“CP3 should be the MVP. I sure hope the voters don’t pick up the mentality that reasons Paul will have another 13 or so years to get his, while this could be Kobe’s last chance so let’s give it to Bryant.” Tealish, sometimes I see it like that.

Apr.9 at 10:55 pm

Vigoss says:
Kobe will get it, because of point guard fatigue (Nash), CP3’s youth, Kobe’s image turnaround, although I think both could deserve it. It gets a little annoying though…sometimes you just KNOW that someone just recently jumped on CP3’s trailer. Fakes and Posers. Some will vote for CP3 just because they don’t like kobe. Some will vote for CP3 because they like shaq. I think KG will gladly give up MVP for a sure shot at a ring eh?

Apr.9 at 11:03 pm

Robbi says:
I still think Kobe deserves it, though… The way his team stayed afloat in the Wild West despite injuries to TWO big men (not to mention Odom missing the 1st 2 weeks of the season) is just incredible. And if you’re going to give KG credit for making his team better and giving Boston a completely new mindset, Kobe should also be congratulated for completely turning around the culture of the franchise.

Apr.10 at 12:19 am

AC says:
Kobe.Kobe.Kobe.
CP3 is amazing, pick a Celtic, Nash seems timeless is the way he can bring people into his system of doing things and make them excel… but in the end there can only be one. KOBE.

Apr.10 at 2:00 am

Kieran says:
i cry when people mention the 81 as a reason for kobes greatness/mvp *holds head in hands* if cp3 aint mvp then im boycotting the nba.

Apr.10 at 2:02 am

Kieran says:
i dont understand the kobe argument paul is statistically better with a better record with a poorer supporting cast. end of

Apr.10 at 2:02 am

bballer says:
What will it take for Kobe to win an MVP award? Every year voters have some new reason why Kobe doesn’t qualify. I don’t get it. The previous years it was because the Lakers weren’t an elite team-even though Kobe carried a team noone had making the playoffs to the 7th seed in the West. But that wasn’t enough for him. But it was enough for people who were trying to say LeBron deserved it. The Lakers had to be in the top 4. Alright, this year the Lakers are a contender and the excuse now is that Kobe has a better team than Chris Paul so Chris Paul deserves it. Com’on! And people wonder why there are so many Kobe fans on websites. It’s because there are so many Kobe haters who find it so difficult to give that man his props! Damn shame!

Kieran says:
what it takes for kobe to win mvp??? how bout be the most effective player in the league…dont think he ever has been….closest hes ever been tho!

Apr.10 at 2:11 am

TMT says:
It’s like I said before… KG… to much Help, CP3 not enough help, Kobe just right…. Lebron? Middle of the pack don’t get you hardware. It’s a CP3 (I’m wanting kobe to win) year, face it dude is balling out of control. Put him on any team EVEN the knicks and that team wins games this year. THAT is how the nba should rule it… but if Kobe wins I won’t protest.

Apr.10 at 2:12 am

bballer says:
Kieran, you say CP3deserves it because he has a poor supporting cast, right? Is this what you’re holding against Kobe? If you are, then did you hold that against Nash, Kevin Garnett, Karl Malone, Allen Iverson, Shaq, David Robinson, Dirk Nowitski, Hakeem, MJ. Magic, Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Tim Duncan or Moses Malone? In case you haven’t figured it out all these players I mentioned above were on teams that either won a championship, got to the finals or at least the conference finals. They also had at least 1 other superstar player on their team. Some had more eg. Showtime Lakers,Bulls. etc.
Cut the BS Kobe deserves it this year! Voters do the right thing! This isn’t a popularity contest!

Apr.10 at 2:17 am

bballer says:
Dacre, MJ averaged 30 points his whole career! Last time I checked, I think he had 5 MVP awards!

Apr.10 at 2:19 am

bballer says:
Dacre, and one of the years he won MVP (1987-88) he averaged 37.1 points a game that whole season!!!

Apr.10 at 4:45 am

Dacre says:
bballer - I appreciate the sentiment and believe me, i feel Kobe is as close to a “JORDAN IMPERSONATER” on the court as there is…. (locker room presence leaves alot to be desired..) BUT…theres always a BUT. This year we’ve seen Kobe carry the Lakers (again…). Since Shaq left this has been their best year and therefore HIS best year…Here’s the BUT. As much as could be attributed to the Lakers success by means of the revival of Odom, the support of the bench and dont forget…BYNUM has been huge this year…big turn around… Kobe is great when he has a good/great centre with him. End of story.

Apr.10 at 5:25 am

Dacre says:
Actually it’s just the beginning - In the 2002/03 season Kobe logged 3,401 mins and played all 82 games. As of right now he has logged 3,054 minutes in 78 games which equates to about 2 minutes less per game this year. Back in 02/03 he hit 868 fgs in 1,924 attempts and he also went 124 for 324 in 3ptFG. This year he is currently at 751 for 1,629 FGs and 142-392 from down town. If we look at his stat line too, regarding assists, blks, stls totals and percentages there is a clear cut line. THEY ARE ALL DOWN…. Why?…He has a better team around him. He doesn’t have to do an MVP season - Sure he still leads this team. No doubt. BUT the rest of the line-up pull their respective weight and THAT makes this team good this season. This season is not an MVP season from K. Bryant.

Apr.10 at 5:32 am

Dacre says:
Everyone who walks around talking about this being a log jam for MVP voting is just looking at hyperbol and conjecture - It makes for good articles and sells SLAM mags. (Thats a good thing sure…). ^_^
This IS a two horse race. No doubt. BUT it’s K.G’s and Chris Pauls race. Which is MORE VALUABLE???? The addition of a LOCK HALL OF FAMER to balance out an other wise big guard/small forward heavy roster? (Put Tim Duncan in there and your looking at an Eastern Conference Spurs team..(god forbid) or the rise of a new BEST POINT GUARD IN THE LEAGUE (so sorry Nash…), who has taken his own skills to a new level, at a stage where the conference he plays in is a log jam for the top, guiding a team to their best season record ever against THAT VERY SAME conference?
It’s easy. Lets talk about NBA mascots because this is OVER…
CP3 for MVP.

Apr.10 at 8:50 am

iLL wiLL says:
Hobe ain’t sh*t without Gasol or Bynum. He can’t carry his squad like CP can. CP has better stats overall, his squad is first in the West. What more can be said?

Apr.10 at 9:55 am

Syk says:
I love how everyone fails to mention that when the hornets were flooded with injuries last year Chris Paul and the hornets didn’t make the playoffs. It’s also great how people forget how good Peja is. Kobe has not had another all-star on his team (until now) in the post shaq era while CP3 has had Peja and an ever improving David West. Now I’m not saying that CP3 had nothing to do with the development of David West but to crown Chris Paul as MVP is bull. It’s going to come down to the last game.

Apr.10 at 10:35 am

Ken H. says:
Nash is a bozo for his quote. CP3 has made his team better, but there’s a 2 game difference between Lakers and NOH right now, and CP3 has had healthy players all season whereas Kobe is dealing with longer injuries (more than 1-2wks) to Radman, Ariza, Mihm, Bynum, Gasol, Walton, and not to mention Fisher’s bum foot. Let’s see Paul try playing 3 weeks with a 6′9 center in the west! David West is playing on another level this year, Peja is back to his form from Sacto, and Tyson Chandler is looking like an all-star. So I don’t think you can legitimately say Kobe has more talent around him, he’s had a banged up team all season and they’re 2 games out.

Apr.10 at 10:39 am

Ken H. says:
And Dacre, MVP is not legitimized by stats, otherwise Lebron would win every year. If you watch every Laker game like I do, you’d understand why Kobe is the MVP, it’s when he puts the team on his back, comes up in the clutch, and puts a dagger through the other team’s heart. He doesn’t need to drop 81 on the raps on a given night just to win over the statwatchers this year. That’s the difference between watching games and watching boxscores.

Apr.10 at 10:41 am

Ken H. says:
“Dacre says:
bballer - I appreciate the sentiment and believe me, i feel Kobe is as close to a “JORDAN IMPERSONATER” on the court as there is…. (locker room presence leaves alot to be desired..) ” Uhhh, you know MJ punched Steve Kerr AND Bill Wennington in the face right?

Apr.10 at 11:35 am

Arek says:
Kobe deserves, it and so does CP3, but this is Kobe’s year, ppl say who would’ve thought the hornests to be on top of the west, well, who would’ve thought the Lakers would be on top too? Lakers had SOO MANY injuries to deal with its not even funny, while the hornets have only had minor ones. Kobe and CP3 are both puttin up great numbers. Team records are only a game apart. I just feel that people will always route for the player against Kobe, just cuz they don’t want kobe to get the trophy, cuz lets face it. kobe IS the most hated sports athlete on the planet.

CHRIS PAUL FOR MVP!

Apr.10 at 12:58 pm

abc123 says:
Kobe is well overdue for this award.

Apr.10 at 1:31 pm

bballer says:
Dacre, what is the diferene between KG and Kobe? They both have great players around them. So what makes KG more deserving than Kobe?

Apr.10 at 1:38 pm

bballer says:
Arek, I agree with you. A while back everyone was crowning Lebron James as the MVP. Then they all got off his dick and jumped on CP3! Arek, I think if you were to play for a team in the West right now and your team was anywhere in the top 6 people would root for you to be MVP! Just as long as Kobe doesn’t win it, it’s all good!

Apr.10 at 3:15 pm

Sam says:
Kobe is an Aston Martin jumping machine! He IS the MVP. But after reading Scoops article on why Kobe wont win the MVP, I too have lost hope in Kobe ever winning an MVP award. Theres always the finals MVP award though.

Apr.10 at 10:01 pm

ye ikenblatt says:
kobe forsure 28.6 ppg hes definetaly much better half of cp3’s assists go to tc all hes gotta do is lob the ball up and td will make the alleyhoop and no mvp candidate can score 4 points in a game! kb averaged 38.0 ppg this week!! kg no way his statistics arent even good and hes got 3 allstars on his team and last year with no allstars his team sucked!! lj is out of the race loosing 8 of 11 so kobe forsure mvp!!!!

Apr.10 at 10:41 pm
