I do. It was back when people actually thought LeBron James could win MVP over Kobe. And Ryan and Russ(with BET and other random people riding their ….s) assured me that LeBron was the MVP. Memories….

To be real though, LeBron is crazy. These back spams aren’t a good sign for a 23 year old. They need to get him some help and stop playing him 45 mins a game.

I ate four of blue-corn tortilla chips.
I logged on.

Truely, Myles, I just felt like being a d*ck (surprise!) and read something that inspired me to look up those games. Still, the box scores are a good read. I do hope you clicked on the links.

Nice work, Ryan. Again, the lack of respect for LeBron on this site—and elsewhere—is a little jarring to me.

Allen says:
Whaddaya mean, Ben? LeBron is “the King” here. Just remember, winning cures all. Look what it did for Kobe. Remember DWade, the next MJ? Don’t worry, as soon as Cleveland starts winning, Lebron will have “added new wrinkles to his game”, and “brought a new attitude” in dominating the league. All the hype just reminds me of a Michael Irvin quote that has stuck with me. He was in a lot of legal trouble at the time, but he said something like “As soon as I score a touchdown, they’ll all love me again”. And that’s the way the ball rolls.

Anyway, to Ben’s point — and this is a big part of why I posted this: Kobe’s amazing, and like him or not, no one doubts it. If he wins MVP this year, I don’t think any sane basketball fan will have a problem with it. I certainly won’t. Meanwhile, there is still a contingent out there, and in here, that seems to think LeBron’s all (or at least mostly) hype. Like he’s still this fresh-outta-high school kid with a flashy game who hasn’t proven anything, and that the numbers are inflated because he’s a ball hog or something. The reality, as I think most (but definitely not all) of us know, is that he put up one of the best rookie lines of the modern era and has gotten better every year since. This year, he’s been flat-out ridiculous, and pointing out the numbers AND clutch play AND victories in these head to head matchups is just a little reminder of that. Well, that, and I just felt like being a d*ck.

Joel O's says:
@Ryan: Good observation there on the fact that Lebron has beaten Kobe twice in recent memory, coming up clutch on both occasions where Kobe struggled. Yes, I do think that Lebron has the ability to beat anyone and any team (including this year’s top team, the Lakers)whenever he wants to. The knock on Lebron right now though, is not whether he *can* do what you pointed out, but whether he *does* do it on a nightly basis. The fact that Lebron’s Cavs are just a middle-of-the-pack team in the East, despite last year’s finals momentum and a deeper, reloaded roster shows that he doesn’t.
Apr.14 at 8:49 pm
Joel O's says:
I don’t think there’s much of a difference in skill levels between the two… but I think I - and a lot of people out there, probably - feel that despite Lebron’s gaudy stats, his team actually had a pretty mediocre regular season compared to the last 2 years’ 50-win ones. Maybe this is expecting too much of Lebron, but if he played like he did against the Lakers those 2 occasions, the Cavs would definitely not be just a 40-ish win team right now. If that was the case, the MVP would be his without a doubt.

And just the head-to-head victories don’t put LeBron over Kobe in the MVP race, neither should the Lakers win over the Hornets do too much to change the voters’ minds — at least I hope not.

in that second game you forgot to mention Kobe’s hand injury. Maybe that is a moot point because I am sure if Lebron had a hand injury he would play through it, even if it were on his shooting hand like Kobes.

I respect Bron, I just don’t think he’s MVP this season. Sure, he’s the third player ever to average 30-8-7. That’s impressive. But Oscar averaged 30-12-11 in ‘62 and came in third in the MVP voting. Jordan averaged 32-8-8 in ‘89 and came in second. Bron’s worthy, it’s just that other guys are more worthy this year. It’s not an indictment of him as much as it is praise for the other guys.

Tim Duncan says:
I think LeBron will get an MVP the year after Kobe gets his (which should be pretty friggin soon). I only say this because this I think it will settle the ‘point guard for MVP’ ERA we are in. (Screw Dirk. Him and his 67 win team.. grr..) That line of 30-8-7 will only get better, (the assists might fall a bit, but w/e.)and then the MVP pretty much falls in his hands.

Non-point, oytun. If he’d taken 100 shots and made 60 of them, would he have had a bad night? Also, he had more assists. When you figure out what I’m missing in all this, please let me know. Thanks!

SLAM ONLINE | » First Round Playoff Preview: Washington v. Cleveland says:
[…] Or maybe LeBron will stay healthy enough, and inspired enough by DeShawn (who I understand is a loon), and they’ll finish this thing off in five or six. I don’t mean to hedge. I just don’t really care. Bron proved me wrong last year, and I’d love it if he did it again, both because the playoffs are more interesting when the League’s best players stick around a few rounds, and because, if the Cavs somehow do miraculously get back to the Finals, recent history tells us they’re guaranteed to beat the best team from the West. […]
