Mark Jackson Quit His Job on the Air

by Marcel Mutoni

Talk about going out in style: Mark Jackson, Marv Albert’s popular right-hand man during Nets games on the YES Network, shocked not just viewers but the Nets themselves when he announced that last night’s 11-point regular season finale loss to the Celtics would be the last game he would call for the network.

“This was going to be it, anyway [on YES]. With a wife and four kids in Los Angeles, every game is a road game.”

According to a source, YES had no idea Jackson reached a decision and was stunned he announced the decision on the air.

Man, that’s like a VP waiting until the annual shareholders’ meeting to announce that it’s the last time he’ll be showing up to the office. Nicely done, Mark.

With the rumor having come out about two weeks ago that Jackson was a top candidate for either the GM or head coaching job in the Knicks organization, this will only serve to fuel speculation. In NY, the countdown to Zeke’s highly anticipated firing has already begun, and it seems as though we’re moving closer and closer to finding a replacement.

He a savage for this. I remember I had met my friend for a lunch break once and when I got back to work quit on the spot cause I was fed up and I felt like it. True story.

Gerard Himself says:
This will hit the Nets more than the Kidd-trade. I’ve seen a lot of Nets games this season, and some of them were only durable because of the hilarious commentary by Marv and Jax. And I like the fact that they’re not homers like Simpson. I’m getting tired of these guys (Tommy Heinsohn) who cry foul when KG gets hit, but when KG fouls himself, the ref is wrong. Sure Heinsohn, stick your Tommy points…. ah forget it.

Slobodan Chutzpah says:
@Gerard: I absolutely agree on Heinsohn; he is a truly terrible commentator because of his homerism .(And no, I’m not talking about the ancient Greeks.) He often goes so far as to imply there’s some kind of conspiracy being perpetrated against the Celts in a particular game. Glad someone else has noticed that.

Good Ole’ Marky Mark… went old school on the Nets.. backed em’ down in the post, then kicked it out on them…thats why he is one of the greatest assist men ever… he always surprised you with what was coming.

He was such a great commentator. the broadcast booth for YES will really suffer from this loss. He was one of the best analyst’s in the game, and after watching every one of the Nets games since 2006-07 season, i am going to really miss him.

Mark Jackson is a joke, saying Kobe Bryant is the equal to MJ and he has the right to be list as 1 team defense. I agree that he is sporadic at best. Mark Jackson should check his stats cause he isn’t even a 1 , 3 or 5 … well maybe 5th ballet all-star … nah … just wait Mark maybe you’ll be a better commentator, before you get a ballet bid.
