Kobe’s Foreign Insults
If there’s one thing no one can ever accuse Kobe Bryant of not being, it is the ability to be crafty. Bryant is stuck at 15 technical fouls this season, and one more will earn him an automatic one-game suspension, something he nor the Lakers can ill afford in the never-ending battle for Playoff seeding out West.
So, what is Kobe’s solution? Leave the yelling to Phil? Perhaps, try to reign in his rage? Nope, he’s still verbally abusing the refs; he’s just making sure they don’t understand what he’s saying.
Bryant said he has learned how to swear in the native languages of teammates Vladimir Radmanovic (Serbia), Sasha Vujacic (Slovenia) and Ronny Turiaf (France). “I’ve been cursing in French. French is really cool, because everything sounds good in French.”…
See, globalization is a good thing!
If David Stern gets his wish and the League starts playing meaningful games in Europe, though, Kobe and other foul-mouthed stars will surely have to come up with more creative means to cuss out the zebras.

Russ, I don’t believe the T’s carry over to the playoffs. I read somewhere that you get a clean slate. Unless you mean, if Kobe gets a T in the last game of the season, then yes, he has to serve the suspension in the first game of the playoffs. But I’m looking it up right now to confirm

I don’t really buy into the vengeance factor for Kobe if he doesn’t win MVP. If he’s not already motivated to his maximum to win it all, he’s not the competitor he’s made out to be. It’s kind of like the “don’t talk trash to Lebron, or he’ll beat you argument”. What, you mean he won’t try his hardest unless you disrespect him? Isn’t that silly?

I believe the thinking is that the race is too tight right now for Kobe to miss any games, but say the seeding is locked up at a certain point, would the Lakers sit Kobe for the remaining game(s) so as to avert a potential technical foul? What would that do to his MVP campaign? Also, the rule book doesn’t state that the technical foul needs to be unsportsmanlike, but I’m assuming that’s what they mean. I mean, could Kobe get suspended for a delay of game, 3-second defensive call, hanging on the rim, or calling a timeout when the Lakers don’t have one, or some other technical rules violation?

More NBA rule book goodness: Cursing or blaspheming an official shall not be considered the only cause for imposing technical fouls. Running tirades, continuous criticism or griping may be sufficient cause to assess a technical.

The quote was taking out of context. Kobe was joking trying to show off, as he does in most interviews. Have you seen Lakers games lately. Kobe is crafty in the sense that he can control what he does at every moment, even when he is angry. I’ve seen a couple of games when he got the 5th foul at the beginning of the fourth quarter. He kept playing and was not expelled. Same now, he’s change the way he talks with the refs and how he reacts after calls against him or his team.
