Jerry Stackhouse Is Not a Byron Scott Fan

by Marcel Mutoni

One of the stats that you can expect ESPN to shove down our throats tonight during Game 3 of the Mavs/Hornets series, is the fact that New Orleans is 0 for the decade in Dallas. If Chris Paul and his teammates needed any more motivation to break that ugly streak, Jerry Stackhouse has certainly done his part in providing it.

Stack put Hornets head coach Byron Scott on blast, saying that Lord Byron is a sucker and that he’s thought about beating the tar out of him.

“I don’t think Byron Scott is the best coach or I don’t think he’s the best guy to deal with — you know what I’m sayin? — from some things that I’ve heard from other players and just some dealings that I had with him earlier in the season. I was about ready to kick his ass — you know what I’m sayin?

He was sitting on the sideline and we just got into a little conversation or something and he was going to tell me, you know, ‘Talk to me when you get a ring.’ I was like, I told that fool, ‘If I played with Magic and Worthy and Kareem I’d have a ring, too’. So, you know, he’s a sucker in my book, but that’s a whole other story.”

Know what I’m sayin’?

Thank you, Jerry Stackhouse, for you have just personally transformed this series from a bit of a snoozefest into something a little more compelling.

Word of advice to Byron: Stay away from Jerry. He don’t play.

I love stack. when was the last time a plyer dubbed as “the next jordan” was a bust but yet good enough to be a quality sixth man?

RV says:
well at least the last week has shown when guys open their mouths they come out and back it up with big wins…..Oh wait, nevermind…

Allenp says:
Wonderful comment by Stackhouse. I think Byron has been blessed with coaching three of the best point guards in the league throughout his career. I’m not saying he’s a bad coach, but his style wouldn’t suit me as a man.

The Suns are going to “bust” the Spurs and Jerry is going to kick Byron Scott’s ass tonight?? You gotta love the Playoffs …

Is this the most trash-talkingest post-season ever? ESPN should dedicate an Outside the Lines segment to exploring this.

STACKHOUSE IS AWESOME!!!

Stack must really hate Utah. The linked story about Kirk Snyder, the beatdown of Jeff Hornacek. Gangsta.

Only ring Stack gets is in his bath tub, prepare for Hornets sweep.

ciolkstar says:
Stack is a b.itch - Earlier this yaer he tried some garbage on Ginobili. (after getting killed all game) Gino banged into him hard on the boxout and Stack just took him down and tried to like forearm press his throat or something. Stack is about as gangsta/tough/clutch as Ginbili was at age 12 - 13. F@ck stack.

Allenp says:
Actually, I checked Byron’s stat page out, and I know agree with him pulling the ring card on Stackhouse. Byron earned his right to brag about his ring.

Kevin Wilson says:
Yeah, poor Jerry Stackhouse has never played on a team with an MVP and All-Stars.

Apr.25 at 1:30 pm

Darksaber says:
Ohhh yes, Stack…..don’t…play…INDEED. Mofo took on Shaq a few playoffs back after O’Neal elbowed him in the head, so Stack clotheslined the little warrior on a fast break. Lovely. Lord Byron, you have been warned. On another note, D’Antoni? Puff, puff, pass? Mmmhkay?

rav says:
allenp - who is the other player you are referring to in the argument that scott has coached “three of the best point guards in the league throughout his career?” Kidd and Paul are two, I can’t for the life of me think who the other is (please tell me that it isn’t steph)

Ryan Jones says:
It’s ALWAYS the nicest cats. Russ can speak to this better than I, but Stack is one of the coolest guys in the League to deal with. Friendly, talkative, no-BS about him. But not a dude you want to cross, apparently.
As for Byron, this is where the team/individual success thing always gets a little silly. One on one, Jerry Stackhouse is a better basketball player than Byron Scott. But Byron played a key and necessary role on some amazing Laker teams, and he has the rings to show it. Stack has played on some good teams, but he’s sure as hell never had the equivalent of Buck and Cap on his side. So, one man’s opinion, Byron still sounds like a dick.

Allenp says:
Rav, it’s Baron Davis.

Apr.25 at 2:19 pm

Allenp says:
Byrong put up 17 and 22 and shot over 50 percent from the field in two years that the Lakers won rings. I think he deserves to say what he pleases. Now, if he had been putting 14 on 45 percent from teh field, I would have a problem. But, you don’t get 22 on 52 percent from the field just by hanging out with Magic and them.

Apr.25 at 2:23 pm

Gumdrop says:
As long as Byron doesn’t play cards with him he should be cool.

phil says:
Allenp: He shot such a high percentage BECAUSE he had magic kareem and worthy. If you are going to prioritize who to guard on that team, I’m sure Byron would be at the bottom.

Apr.25 at 4:43 pm

Allen says:
Phil - He also shot such a high percentage because he played in the 1980s.

Also, to elimate confusion with AllenP, I’m changing my handle to “Jackie Moon”.

Its Tmacs fault that Jerry Stackhouse is a peckerhead.

Apr.25 at 6:15 pm

franco says:
I completely agree with Ryan Jones. Stack is one of the nicest dudes to talk to or interview but at the same time, he’s one of those dudes that you don’t wanna cross.

Apr.25 at 6:24 pm

Allenp says:
Phil. No doubt Magic and the rest made sure Lord Byron got easier shots. But, he still had to make them, and anybody in the league will tell you that putting 22 a game is no easy feat. Look at his numbers, he was more than just a solid role player like Kurt Rambis or Otis Thorpe. I think Byron did enough on those teams to be able to look at Stackhouse and tell him he needs to win a ring before he starts popping off at the mouth. When I made my earlier comments I hadn’t taken the time to look at Byron’s career.

Apr.25 at 6:25 pm

Slobodan Chutzpah says:
Forget about Byron’s stats. There has never been a better or more consistent arm-crosser in the League. And he has the rings to prove it.

Apr.25 at 6:39 pm

thesubwayconnection says:
Can anyone really blame Stack, though? It’s not like he’s going to just shut his mouth and walk off. Everyone’s already questioned the Mavs toughness anyways.

Apr.25 at 7:31 pm

Ron Hitley says:
Stack’s an idiot for opening his mouth. How does this help the Mavs? If anything, it’s gonna get the Hornets pissed off and more determined to finish the series in four.

Jerry Stackhouse needs to become a fan of cosmetic surgery

Whatever he says, Stack needs to learn floor spacing.
The dude can’t feed for the post up guy with proper spacing.

i, for one, think that its absolutely great that players and coaches are dissing each other during playoffs… so what if wiz are pissing off lebron? or stackhouse vs. scott? or bibby vs. celtic fans? it adds to the drama, and we all love drama
hooray to playoff beef

Apr.26 at 11:13 am

Gerard Himself says:
Phil: I don’t think Byron Scott would be that guy. From the starting 5’s of those days it would either be Kurt Rambis, or the 40-year old virgin, A.C. Green. Just sayin’.

Apr.26 at 2:42 pm

tenorca says:
Stack looks like Shrek. He’s the new Popeye Jones. Or the original Popeye Jones. Or the newish Adonal Foyle. Either way, no second round for you, again, Stack.

Apr.26 at 6:56 pm

Mark Z says:
I’m no BScott fan, but he’s smart enough to let his point guards run his teams. (Unlike Avery) But like Kidd, Paul might eventually figure out that Scott is doing little more than stalking the sideline and taking credit for wins.

Apr.27 at 12:21 am

be serious says:
to the person who said Scott only wins because of his pgs, let me know how the Nets faired after Jason Kidd got him fired! second, Scott was a key contributor to those Laker teams not just some stiff

Bo Diddly says:
I don’t have a lot of knowledge on the subject, but Byron’s coaching record would suggest he is a great coach. Is this not the case? Do explain… And having watched some games recently from the 80’s, Byron was a great slasher and pretty good shooter and defender…I’d rate him over Stack…quicker, better defender plus he won titles, which you just can’t argue against.

Apr.29 at 12:20 am

Shannon says:
Stack was right…Scott is a sucker and if he was a real man he should back it up. Talk to me when you get a ring? The fact is Scott was a weak role-player that benefitted from playing during a high scoring time in the NBA on the highest scoring team with the greatest players (Magic, Worthy, Kareem) available. You could have put Rainman and a scarecrow on the court with those 3 and won a championship. I work with a lot of these guys and can assure you the players are not fans of Scott. He’s benefitting from a group of good, young players but his sorry ass will be exposed.
