Is Baron’s Future With the Warriors?
The Golden State Warriors crashed and burned in their last chance to keep the race for the eighth and final Playoff spot interesting, and all Baron Davis could do was helplessly watch from the bench for the entire second half, as the Phoenix Suns effectively put an end to Golden State’s season.
Following the game, the main question centered around Baron’s future in the Bay Area.
“Yeah, I want to win a championship here,” he said at shootaround prior to the Warriors’ 122-116 loss to Phoenix. “We went to the playoffs, we’re in the playoff hunt right now, so my whole thing is to bring a championship to the Bay Area. That would be something great. Al Attles (the coach of Golden State’s 1974-75 NBA title-winning team) is my man, so I’ve got some big shoes to fill.”
So, that means you’re going to stay? “I didn’t say nothing about that,” Davis said with a laugh.
For Warriors fans, the summer will be a nerve-wracking one, as Baron has the option to opt out of his current deal (which will pay him just over $17 mil next season) and seek a longer and richer one.
Working in Davis’s favor should he decide to test the free agent waters is the fact that he’s answered all of the questions regarding his ability to stay healthy; tomorrow night will mark the first time in over half a decade that the 29-year old point guard has played all 82 games in a season.

With his injury history, Davis seems like he should be way older than 29. Or maybe its the beard?

This is bitter sweet. Baron has been a true warrior all season leading the league in minutes. He has stayed healthy, his team has improved, but his season is done. Where’s the justice?

I don’t see how one healthy year answers his health questions. I hope he stays a Warrior - he and the team fit.

Baron will stay a Warrior, and next year a well over .500 team will make the playoffs, just like they should have this year. Would have been like 4th in the east

I love G State but over the last 2-3 weeks they played completely uninspired ball. Pitiful defense (even for them) and poor outside shooting. The only player who has comsistently played well is Monta. They should probably focus on being able to keep Monta and look ahead. BDiddy has been great for the warriors but 17 Mil is already too much, if he wants more papre than that, its obvious that winning isnt his priority, b/c only crappy teamscan afford to pay one guy that much

Get what we can for him, but do not over pay. Of course he showed those things, he’s trying to get his last Nash-like pay day. His body is like a 35 year old, not a 30 year old. We could have a LOT of cap room if this is done right and we get Monta/Biedrins signed quickly.

dude will make 17 million next season, I don’t think he will opt out, it will be a shame if he leaves Golden State. Regarding Nelson: I have doubts he can get more out of this team. And I mention his name every 3 weeks or so: get Paul Silas!

no one can get more out of the team because the team is built exclusively for nellie ball. i mean, al harrington is not a center.

Baron on the Cavs would be nice (if he stays healthy). Could Baron save the Knicks? If he stays with G.S. then they really need to shake up that roster. With whom could they replicate the Pacers trade? And maybe the team should try to get more players with bad reps, since WHOOO! has worked out so well. Ruben Patterson? Ron Artest? Zach Randolph?

Tim Duncan says:
I’d actually be happy if Davis left GS, only because this would make a team in the east more of a contender and it would knock GS out for a year or two (assuming he goes to the east). Any young point guards in free agency this year? They could pick one up for under 10 mil a year, resign Monta and Biedrins. I think State should just build for a couple years from now when the west isn’t as good (though it will still be much better than the east) because their best players are all young. Maybe they could dump a guy like Harrington and make cap space for Arenas??

WHAT ARE YOU ON DUDE? I don’t think Baron Von Shotselection will be in GS. Did you read that comment? When asked if he was staying next year, based on his apparent desire to bring a ‘chip to GS he replied with - thats not what i said??? HAHA…he’s GONE… He’ll do a Boozer and jump ship as soon as he’s off the books. I think he would suit up in Philly.

Baron’s getting paid seventeen million next year. He’s not opting out of the contract. His agent admitted no one else is going to pay that much for him. He’s at Golden State next year unless the Warriors want to trade him and they don’t.
