Grizzlies Counting on “the Other” Gasol
Pau’s brother has the Memphis Grizzlies’ braintrust salivating.
(Grizz fans, meanwhile, just hope that Kwame Brown doesn’t have an equally mediocre little brother toiling in the League a few years from now.)

They should draft Robin Lopez.

was gonna say, there’s no way he can be as bad as Kwame so…

“Comparisons to Toronto center Rasho Nesterovic and former Philadelphia 76er Todd MacCulloch still trail Gasol.” Yeah, that doesn’t bode well for the future. Chris Wallace is delusional. He wasted a potential top-5 pick to take Kedrick Brown because he “had a feeling about the kid”. Kedrick Brown!

note: the first quote is from the article, the second quote is made up but is something that Fatty Boombalatty would say.

Marc Gasol is not bad. He is vertically challanged, but has really good post footwork. Defensively, he would have problems with the faster athletic 7 footers. He’d would actually be a nice fit for Memphis.

Marc is probably one of the best centers in europe right now, and he made a huge jump since last season. He is getting one gameday MVP after another in the spanish league and all the big clubs are outbidding each other for his services for next season.
But I´m not sure how his game will translate to the NBA.
By the way, a few minutes ago he led his team to the semi-final of the Uleb-Cup, and he was the best player on the floor.

Jukai says:
Marc was never suppose to be as good as Pau, and while he’s an INCREDIBLE defensive threat in the Spanish League, he’s going to have to work on playing against NBA-level athletes. I’ve seen Fernandez and Rubio tear him up cause Gasol just can’t keep up with their speed.

Jukai says:
Also, Solito, didn’t Memphis trade Pau cause he was too slow for the team? How would the other Gasol be a good fit in Memphis, if he has the foot speed of Kevin Love?

h-wag says:
I don´t think there are a lot of big guys that can keep up with quick guards like Fernandez and Rubio, so that shouldn´t be the point if he´s good or not.
Nobody is blaming a huge center in the NBA because they can´t keep Tony Parker or Kobe in front of them.

Solito says:
My guess, Pau got sent because Memphis was not happy with him, after he broke his foot. He knew he wanted out, did his rehab on their expense, and started bitching the minute somebody was willing to listen. Darko is a better defender then Pau, but questinoable on offense. Marc and him will be a nice tandem.
Apr.11 at 5:58 pm
Jukai says:
If Darko can stay on the court for five minutes without getting into foul trouble/threatening someone’s wife and children. I know Pau is a low post player and Darko plays on the high post, so HYPOTHETICALLY that would work out, Solito. But you forgot to factor in that Darko is a god awful, underachieving player who everyone is still waiting to mature. Interesting theory about Pau, as well, but I think it was more of a Jerry-West-Gift-To-Kobe thing.

Jukai says:
Also, H-Wag, an above average center doesn’t have to be able to keep up with Kobe and Parker. A GREAT center should. If he wants to be better than Pau solely based on his defense, he has to be able to block 17-year-olds from getting to the basket, which he isn’t able too.

Solito says:
It is a big lineup, when you factor Collins, Kwamee, Warrick, and Gay into it. They’ll lead the league in fouls, no doubt. But still, you have to get around those guys first. With Mike Conley cutting and Miller stroking, Navarro can keep facilitating. If they draft smart, they can get another NBA ready Senior at small forward. Not a bad setting at all.

Solito says:
Btw. I like that “gift” theory. Sort of the Lakers Freemasons are at work… Scarry thought.
Apr.11 at 6:20 pm
Jukai says:
When you factor Kwame and Collins into it, it gets that much worse.

Sesa says:
Wow, I can’t believe that someone said Darko was a “defender”. Marc was slower than Kevin Love and Yao Ming combined.
I’m still wondering how that guy ever survived in Euro league with the other jump-shooting centers
Apr.12 at 2:36 am
hursty says:
well, the only great jumpshooting fluid, 7 foot centre I’ve ever seen is Hakeem. He was plenty athletic.

Solito says:
They got a tallent and a roll player on every position - plus trade value. What more do you want for an off season?
Apr.12 at 4:57 am
Solito says:
Being the most efficient player in Europe doesn’t really mean much. Marc Jackson is number 7 in that chart, and he can’t guard Papadopolus 1 on 1 (Kukoc lead that at age 17). Marc Gasol has upside, and that makes him interesting.

whooo! says:
that line about kwame’s brother was hilarious
Apr.12 at 6:18 pm
h-wag says:
Jukai, as of right now, I don´t see him as a great center, especially in the NBA.
The ting is that guys with his body size that can actually do more than dunk and clog the lane are very hard to find. But I don´t think he will be as good as his brother, who has way better skills in my opinion.
And let´s see how he does tomorrow when he gets another shot and Rudy and ricky in the Uleb-Cup final.

Tim Duncan says:
C’mon guys. Marc Gasol? I would be surprised if he ever averages more than 10 minutes a game, even on Memphis. He will never be a good starter in this league. Period.
