Warriors Want More Nellie-Ball

Does Nellie Want Them Back?

by Marcel Mutoni

This past summer, it wasn’t very clear that Don Nelson would be on the Warriors’ bench following their shocking upset of Dallas in the Playoffs. The problem, as always, was money.

Nelson, of course, returned to Golden State. And now, the Warriors have decided to show good faith by exercising their option on Nellie, but he’s not so sure.

“It’s always nice to be wanted, especially when you’re 67,” Nelson said.

“I’m going to have to think about that one. Joy and I will decide that, after we’ve had time to reflect and rest a little bit.”

If you read between the lines, which I highly recommend, it’s basically Nellie telling his bosses that he’ll wait and see how the Warriors finish out the season: If they falter and miss the postseason, he still gets a nice chunk of change; should they shock the world again, it’s back to the negotiating table (and we all know how that goes.)

The man is nothing if not shrewd.

The Webber signing was retarded. Did he think CWebb had matured THAT much since coming into the league. He’s a terrible fit there (not that he’d be much use anyehere else)

I hope Nellie stays. The Warriors have become my favorite team to watch. Monta is really improving and has been thriving in the shoot-first freedom of Nellie. Slam needs to give young Monta some love! He is killin it right now! How about a feature?

If they don’t get past the first round, again, he won’t have much of a bargaining chip. If they get to the WCF (somehow) he will definitely hold out.

When you look at it - Adding C Webb to the lightning quick/match-up nightmare for others Warriors is like a certain lightning quick/match-up nightmare team from Phoenix adding Shaq. Did you see Shaq clear the first two rows the other night though?! That was the REAL superman.
