Joakim Noah’s World: Bulls > Pistons
I’m envious of Joakim Noah. No, not because he gets to play a child’s game for a living and earns millions doing it - though, that certainly plays a small role - but because he simply sees the world differently from everyone else.
His mind is able to access alternate realities; thus he is happier than you or I.
In Noah’s world, the Chicago Bulls (25-38) are a better team than the Detroit Pistons (46-17).
“I feel like we’re different, but I feel like at the same time, with our style of play, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t have beat that team,” Noah said.
“I think Detroit’s a great team, but I still feel like we’re better than them, really. I feel like we’re a better team.”
I don’t even really have a response here. One thing is for certain, though: The drugs in Chicago are fantastic!

Well to be fair, you could always tell there were some screws missing in Noah’s head.

Yeah, thats true tealish. Next time you see a Noah interview, pay attention to what he focuses on while he answers the question. His eyes flicker around the room like crazy

This should be left to resident Pistons lover, TADone, but I’m sure I speak for him when I say “what a douche”. That is now a SLAMOnline staple. Good work, TAD!

The true sign that it was time to stop paying attention to the Bulls was when they started letting Noah do his ridiculous fake tribal hype dance in the huddle before games. I cannot defend the Bulls at this point.

TADOne says:
Ok E, being unbiased, do you think Detroit is overrated?
Mar.11 at 4:41 pm
Eboy says:
No. I think they have a veteran nucleus that knows how to win, they’ve done that for a 5 year period without much of a dropoff and if they had a better coach in the last couple of seasons they may have another title under their belts.
Mar.11 at 4:48 pm
TADOne says:
Flip IS overrated. Honestly though, he has been much better this season than his first two in Detroit.

i’m very curious to see what kind of career will joakim have.

Russ Bengtson says:
If you don’t believe your team is better than others, regardless of record, why bother playing the games at all? Why not just forfeit to every team with a better record? They’re better, right? I like Joakim quite a bit.
Mar.11 at 5:14 pm
Mush says:
Me too Russ. You gotta have that belief if you wan t to win in the NBA.
Mar.11 at 5:18 pm
albie1kenobi says:
anyone that pisses big ben off is alright in my book. don’t tell me that if all the bulls have joakim’s attitude, their team record wouldn’t be a lot better.

Jukai says:
I like this kid. Forget about his lack of real fundamental basketball skills, or non-fundamental basketball skills. And forget the fact that his immaturity would make a teenage girl cringe, and that after months in the NBA, he still can’t conduct an interview… I like this kid!

Dutch Rich says:
I’m with Russ on this. The kid plays hard. He’s become the lightning rod for the team because he doesn’t want to realize that he’s a kid in a grown man’s world and obviously the media is having a field day with it. Blame it on his European style Laisez Faire upbringing. Not being able to hold his tongue. Doesn’t seem to affect him though. He still comes out and plays hard every night. In the end, the kid is living his dream.
Mar.11 at 5:53 pm
Eboy says:
Maybe he meant the ‘96 Bulls. NOW I get it!
Mar.11 at 5:58 pm
Eboy says:
Whopee Dutch!!! Their are plenty of other hard nosed kids that didn’t lead a pampered childhood and feel they can shoot their moronic mouth’s off whenever they feel like it cause Daddy’s money could get them out of trouble. Alot of those same kids don’t get handed a place in one of this countries best universities for athletics and get to “live their dream”. If he really wants to impress someone earn your stripes and shut the f*ck up. I know, I know, “last I checked you can be a rookie and talk about you team”. Well guess what, this is about the 4th instance where he has shot his mouth off this season and you know what? The Bulls still suck even with his scary talent on the floor.
Mar.11 at 6:11 pm
Jukai says:
Eboy, wealth has no bearing on whether one should shut his mouth or not. Really, one should shut ones mouth regardless of income level. In this case, shut your damn mouth. The guy goes out and plays hard every night: what the hell more do you WANT from him? He isn’t samacking his wife or hanging out with suspected murderers… So really, stop your clear jealous whinings.
Mar.11 at 6:36 pm
TADOne says:
Ok Russ, I have no problem with the kid having the belief that his team is better than the other team, but two things: 1) He is a ROOKIE. Have the belief, fine, but keep it to youyrself or in the lockerroom. 2) A lot of people hate on the Pistons players who say the same thing and they get blasted from all angles on this exact thing from fans. So damn right I’m calling Noah out on this.
Mar.11 at 6:58 pm
Eboy says:
Jukai, why would I be jealous of this moron? He has more money than me? Good for him. Get more if you can. I’ve got money too, so do you. What the fu*k does THAT have to do with the fact that he is clearly a misinformed idiot to the ways of professional sports. His basketball skills are garbage, and his lack of humility is second to none. I think that’s what you are overlooking in your usual ignorance. Not surprising of course, and I wouldn’t expect the SLAM guys to get on him too hard, since he is a Rookie Diary keeper. But let’s put it like this, since I am more veteran in life than you, Jukai. If he made these comments back in the day in the lig, he would have been broke down in a locker room by a few teammates until he got the point. Don’t believe? Delve deep in the NBA history books and pull out some deep rooted info instead of played out stats and Steve Nash’s cup size, brother man. You know I love to argue with you, but you need a reality check on this.
Mar.11 at 7:04 pm
Reggie Evans says:
Steve Nash’s cup size? I got no problem with Noah’s comments at all. I like his attitude.

peteb80 says:
It’s been the same with the Pistons every year since they won their last championship. They are very good, but they’re just not contenders anymore. Why does anyone think they’d be better this year than they were last season?

BIG Ron says:
I’m not a Noah fan but hey thats how winners r suppose to talk. Is he suppose to talk about how much da team sucks? Nope, don’t think so. Eboy i think u do have a problem wit da kid growing up having $, hater.
Mar.11 at 7:44 pm
TADOne says:
Not contenders? Really? I’m quite sure the Celtics, Cavs, Lakers, Spurs, or basically every other team in the NBA would disagree with you. But think what you want.

Jake says:
“The drugs in Chicago are fantastic!” haha that made my day
Mar.11 at 7:45 pm
peteb80 says:
And I am pretty unbiased on the Pistons, too. Or I could even say I like watching them play, but their record is inflated in the East, plus they lost to Cleveland last year and the Cavs were the fifth best team last year at best. But still, their name still pops up in the championship discussions more than it should, imo.

BIG Ron says:
Jake dat was pretty lame u crackhead
Mar.11 at 7:55 pm
Jukai says:
and that’s the problem with most of the old “veterans” in this forum. They LOVE the days when Jordan would hit Steve Kerr in the face cause he was riding him too hard in practice, or Charles Oakley would threaten to introduce Hill’s face to the pavement if he didn’t fork up 100 grand… The league was a bunch of ***holes back then! The late 80s/early 90s produced the most uncivilized athletes in NBA history (excluding the 70s, but at least back then they kept their battles on the court). Nowadays, the ***holes are the ones who say something lame every once in a while, yet all these “veterans” (the same mentality as old men who feel TV ruined the radio) feel it would be wonderful to see a team too scared to open their mouths cause the 6′11 steroid freak would bash their faces in. When Lebron James says he loves to play with his teammates, he’s a fake douche. BUT if Lebron punched Larry Hughes in the mouth for not working hard enough, Eboy would be the first to say “NOW THAT’S A GREAT, PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE RIGHT THERE!”
Mar.11 at 7:57 pm
TADOne says:
Um.
Mar.11 at 7:58 pm
Jukai says:
Yes, what Noah said was incredibly stupid. It would be the worst god damn thing to do for a team to “rough him up” in the locker room when he’s arguably giving the most out of everyone on the Chicago Bulls team.

eboy’s hating on Noah is rediculous. The Heat could definitely use him, seeing as they’re currently boasting a roster made up of players with hearts so dulled that would make Vince Carter jealous.

I hate several of the current Heat players too, but not because they’re obnoxious as*holes, vmcb. There’s a difference.

dude is dumb. i remember Avery Johnson telling Josh Howard THIS year… ‘dont complain about it. not right now. maybe after 10 years.’ the sh!t that Noah says can really piss people off.
Mar.12 at 1:11 am
Russ Bengtson says:
Last I checked Joakim Noah helped lead Florida to two straight college championships and has already had a 20-rebound game this year. Sure, he’s not conventionally skilled, but the kid’s got more heart than anyone on that team and he leaves EVERYTHING on the floor. Someone on that team needs to show some fight, and the fact that it’s a rookie that’s doing it reflects more poorly on his teammates than it does on him. Kid’s awesome.
Mar.12 at 1:36 am
albie1kenobi says:
there’s always a fine line between being confident and being arrogant. would you call having confidence as having a lack of humility? also joakim said “i feel” and “i think”, and that’s to express his own OPINION, and he was talking about the TEAM. he never once said, “i’m the sh!t. everyone else scuks”.
in regards to his previous “outbreak” and benching, let me put it this way: if you join a company and find out everyone is basically sleeping through the day, would you call that out or would you sleep through the day too? he did and he paid for it (he got benched for two games or so, right?) but does that mean he’s wrong in the big picture?
in the end there’s always two sides to everything. we are all entitled to our own opinion, and i think Joakim’s alright.
Mar.12 at 5:21 am
hursty says:
ok cool. thats your opinion and your gonna express yourself and maybe u r right. thats just what AJ said and its not relative to Noah so ok. yes, he plays with heart but is it the right to be saying stuff to the media anyways?. its going to rile people up regardless of how you word it. look at Kobe in the off season.

What’s the hurt in it? You think anyone on the Pistons is actually going to remotely care?

Mar.12 at 1:10 pm
Old Skool Sloan says:
I don’t want to repeat what others said, but I’m gonna argue the “no skills-just heart” theme. He doesn’t have offensive skills - his j is u.g.l.y. But he’s got great defensive footwork, reads rebounding angles well and is a GREAT passing big man (especially on the break). Plenty of guys have made careers out of less. Rant: I’m sick of every player who says the same damn thing night in and night out. Speak your mind, let it rip, this a game, not international diplomacy.

Nad says:
Noah is a winner plain and simple. If u want to win, you have to believe your team is better than your opponents. Noah’s comments are always constructive for the team, he’s a team guy and he’s the best thing going on in Chicago right now..seriously! This guy is gonna win a championship some day, that’s guaranteed. Wonder if the Bulls will keep him around?

I dig NAD on this.Noah is young, his game’s vision is simple. He loves playing and winning.Just hope he ‘ll keep that grin and competitiveness along his career.
And I do think the bulls are better than the pistons.
