I love rampant speculation. As for my feelings on the possibility of the Knicks hiring Walsh, see my last comment in the other post. Oh hell, I’ll just re-post it.

Chris O'Leary says:
If my franchise were in disarray (to put it lightly), I wouldn’t want the guy who built the Pacers to come in to try and fix things up. It’s like Ja Rule attempting a comeback and hiring Kenny Rogers to produce his next album. Or something.
Mar.25 at 2:51 am
hursty says:
yes! @ russ, i also find that speculation is good for small talk. (just sayin). @ chris, the pacers were good for a while (they lost in the conference finals in 03-04 in 7 games.) Miller, artest, O’Neal. give dude credit, it was a good team (like the knicks on paper), just didnt mesh well-see Malace at the Palace. haha. maybe he can do a better job there.
Mar.25 at 2:55 am
Chris O'Leary says:
Nah, you’re right Hursty, that conf. final team was good. My Miller hatred goggles make it tough to admit though. If there was one good thing to say about the Malace Pacers, they did work pretty well together that night.
Mar.25 at 3:18 am
Russ Bengtson says:
ATTN KNICK FANS: If Donnie Walsh does walk through that door, he’s going to be old and grey. And when was the last time the Pacers made the playoffs? The last quality team Donnie assembled imploded with the worst brawl in NBA history. Is that the guy you want trying to undo this mess? Your team has no foreign-born players, never drafted a high schooler, considers young players to be afterthoughts. Isn’t it time to hire a forward-thinking new kid? Why not follow the Rockets/Sonics lead and hire a young front office type from a perennial contender? Hire someone who’ll finish what they start, not a lion in winter. Hire new blood who will bring new thoughts and fresh ideas. Donnie Walsh seems like a bright sort with a good track record, but isn’t he the GM equivalent of Lenny Wilkens? A Hall of Fame worthy career with little success of late. He signed off on the Jack/Harrington for Dun/Murph trade, did he not? Is that really the guy you want running your franchise? P.S. If he DOES come to New York, the tabloids will dub him “Donnie Basketball”. Bet on it.
Mar.25 at 3:21 am
hursty says:
yeh. i like the pacers forward line consisting of one good player (Danny Granger). David Harrison is ok at other stuff haha. O Neal and the Grunge could be the best forwrd line next to p2 and KG if they work together.
Mar.25 at 3:34 am
hursty says:
hey russ give some ink to the Grunge! I know I’ve asked before but its worth mentioning again. (yes i made up the lame name but i like it.)

Slobodan Chutzpah says:
That’s all very fine and dandy, Russ (you seem to be telling us to think twice before making this decision), but what are we supposed to do about it? I’ve been against this from the get-go. It’s a dumb-ass move.
Mar.25 at 5:36 am
Slobodan Chutzpah says:
You know what else is funny about Walsh? In the 2002 draft, Pacers’ basketball people had unanimously decided to get Tayshun Prince. Guess what happened? Walsh told the other guys at the last minute that he was allowing their then head coach — wait for it — Isiah Thomas to make the decision. Thomas drafted Fred Jones. Too good to be true, friends, too good to be true.
Mar.25 at 6:06 am
Russ Bengtson says:
I’m just saying Knicks fans in general shouldn’t be happy about this. There’s nothing you CAN do, I’m just spreading doom and gloom. It’s my speciality. The day Jim Dolan does something intelligent will probably usher in the Apocalypse, so maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. Is that a reach? (For the record, in the 2004 draft the Pacers took David Harrison over Anderson Varejao.)
Mar.25 at 6:17 am
hursty says:
but Russ, look at all the great publicity the two drafts got them. A slam dunk champion and a weed smoker. come on! otherwise they would have only ended up with a great defensive player from Team USA and a big time rebounder/hustler. And a free haircut or too.

Sadly, I think Donnie Walsh is as good as Knicks fans can hope to get right now. There’s no way you get anyone with rep and vision to come in, knowing they’ll have to suffer through a couple of years of losing before all the bad contracts and crappy attitudes can be bled away. You’ll have to hope the guy after Walsh is the right guy.
Mar.25 at 11:53 am
FLUXLAND says:
I just love Dolan sticking it to the crybaby fans and some of the mongoloids on the team. The man runs his own show, could care less about what anyone says, and in turn they love it! They keep coming for more. It’s like they are transfixed while looking at something completely heinous, yet they can’t look way, wanting to know what happens next.

Donnie to the Knicks?, what´s up?, what´s with the Pacers-Knicks rivalry in the 90´s, is coach K going to North Carolina?, MJ is returning (again) to play for Jerry Sloan?, is the Devil ruling the heaven?; wait,… Pat Ewing is coaching a pivot in Orlando (why not E-Curry and Z-Bo?)

all of you are overlooking that the pacers were a model of consistency under donnie walsh, missing the playoffs i think once in about 12 years. walsh assembled a monster of a team on the court, which is what people in his position are paid to do. yeah sure, he takes some of the blame for that team being alot of nutjobs, but again, he assembled a team that was a title contender, and you cant expect one man to babysit everyone, these guys are grown men and need to make their own choices. honestly, i think the knicks and all of you depressed knicks fans should just get off the poop wagon and stop mocking everything and see that you guys are getting a GM that has proven he has the ability. and don’t pin the next few years failures on him, isiah assembled this team.
Mar.25 at 2:37 pm
daniel says:
walsh took a beating for drafting reggie over the guy people thought owuld be better, steve alford from IU. look how that ended up. He put together one of the smartest, best teams of the 90’s, those teams with reggie, davis brothers, mark jackson, smits, mullin, smooth perkins, travis best, etc. you guys are going to overlook all that because he traded away two guys that werent happy here (jackson/harrington) for two guys who actually dont mind playing here (dunleavy, murphy)? thats garbage guys

k$ says:
Forget Walsh where is Contangelo? The Knicks have the most money. They should try to steal someone away by throwing a ton of cash their way. They can pay $6 mill a year for Jerome DNP James. Why not break the bank on a good GM. Its like the man that spends $2000 on a suit but has his buddy cut his hair for $5.

i agree with daniel. the pacers as currently constructed is not a very good team, but they were in the playoff hunt earlier in the year. lil’ dun is not having a bad year himself.
