Just for an opposite viewpoint, yesterday was National Mario Day. Yes, Mario from Nintendo fame. The reason? March 10th somehow comes out to spell Mar10 in some geeky, video game nerd abbreviation form. I’m not sure which one to be more excited over.

There are so many blogs created just to hate on Kobe. So it’s only right that a blog be creatd to do what every basketball fan should be doing but don’t do -celebrating his greatness!

Young Chris #3 says:
This has to be said. For a while, during the Lakers dynasty and shortly thereafter, there was a strong divide between those that were fans of Kobe’s and those that weren’t. That line was so strong that it was inconceivable to cross as there were those who thought Kobe was the closest thing to God and those who simply despised him (Extremes, but yall KNOW what I’m talkin about). Post-Colorado and post-Diesel, there was the Phil Jackson book that tore into The former “8,” and it warranted the “hate” being shown by the “haters” who “hated” the arrogance and the Jordan impersonations and the fact that “8″ had the M.D.E. on his team and rode (with) him to 3 championship rings in as many years much like Scottie did (twice) in the prior decade (with the G.O.A.T.). As time passed, Phil came back and “8″ kept on scoring. There were no more scandals and nowhere near as much displayed arrogance. However, there was an impressively hard-fought playoff series against the top team in the leage (record-wise), in which “8″ went off for 50+ to keep his team in the series. “8″ remained an enigma, changing his number to 24 and leading Team USA to an Olympic birth. The “hate” had ceased and the former “haters” had come to appreciate Kobe’s will and desire. The former haters had even come to hope that Kobe would someday win MVP, an award he probably should have but did not receive due to his sub-par team’s record over those years in which he probably deserved the award. But the weird thing is, while the “hate” has ceased (regarding the way dude plays the game and his spot as “That Dude” in the L currently), the undying love has not only endured, but it’s increased to a sickening point, as witnessed in the various blogs posted daily on this website. What makes is sickening even more is that I am likely to be considered a “hater” once more for questioning the borderline obsession that is masked for “love” that is being shown for dude. So the “hate” is warranted, but it’s no longer given for the reasons it once was. And I still think that CP3 should be MVP if the Hornets finish with the best record in the West. Nobody has ever done more with less (Sorry A.I., but you never made your teammates all that better, you were just so good that you literally carried them to the promised land). play with that

Best offensive player ever, Jordan and Wilt following close

hursty says:
@ 48. ok, why isnt he regarded as being just as good a defensive player as Jordan? sure he didnt win DPOY, but with the extra offensive help hes gettin in Fish, Odom (being more consistent), Pau (20 and 10) and bynum back, he isnt required to carry so much load and can lock down on B Roy, Pierce, J Howard, even LeBron sometimes. hes just as good right now. he just polarises people unlike Jordan so much.

Young Chris #3 says:
Hursty, he’s not the offensive player Jordan was, nor is he the defensive player Jordan was. Like I said, he’s THAT DUDE right now in the L, but don’t get it twisted. And you don’t even have to think about it in the context of how MJ was going up against the Bad Boy Pistons, Showtime Lakers, Bird’s Celtics and Nique’s Hawks during the 80’s. Nevermind his dominance of the Knicks, Magic, Lakers, Sonics, Jazz, Suns, Blazers, and EVERY other team in the 90s. Jordan went against tougher, more aggressive/physical defenses and went off on them. Nevermind all that. Look past the eras and compare statistics straight up, since that’s all everybody thinks about when saying Kobe is a better anything than MJ. Look closely too, because the stats really don’t compare. He scored 81, had 10 straight games where he dropped 50 and averaged over 35 for the season? Haha, Jordan was that dude back when Kobe was still in diapers, averaging over 37 a game for 82 games and followed that up with another 82-game season where he averaged 35. Before the Bulls were a dynasty, Jordan was that dude at ages 23-25. Compare stats and realize that those 164 games combined show that Jordan averaged around 36 points, 5-and-a-half assists, over 5 rebounds, 3 steals and over 1-and-a-half blocks. Is it even legal to be that good? In baseball they would be investigating for enhancement drugs like there was no tomorrow. So let’s kill the talk about how Kobe at 23 was better than Mike at 23. No longer is the argument relevant that Kobe did more than Mike so early in his career because while the Shaq-factor cancels that argument and always has, Mike now was done more than Kobe did at this point in each of their respective careers: In Jordan’s 12th year he was in the middle of ANOTHER Bulls Dynasty and in his 30th year (Kobe will hit that mark in August of this year) he was finishing off the first. Difference is Kobe was never the League OR Finals MVP, whereas Jordan had already won both awards (and a few others) by that time. Granted, Kobe could very well have both of those awards by the end of this season, but even if that occurs he won’t be better than, or even as good as Mike, no matter how bad some of you might want him to be.

Young Chris,
Slow your role on the MJ thing. I’m sick and tired of people always bringing up MJ when talking about Kobe’s greatness just to prov that he’s not that good. Enough of the bulls^&@! already!!! I don’t hear people bring up MJ’s name when talking about Wade or LeBron. So stop bringing it up when we’re talking about Kobe. Let’s just appreciate his greatness and admit that he’s the best player in the game right now and stop the hate! And that goes for everybody else out there. Stop the MJ comparison! It’s tired and played out! So is the hate! Play with that.

BBaller, was my comment the only one you read? Because I was responding to Hursty. In case u can only read the words “Michael” “Jordan” and “MJ” when thinkin about Kobe, the first word in my comment was “Hursty,” which meant it was a response. Hooked on phonics… I heard it works…

Oh, and snyper also went ahead and mentioned that Kobe was a better offensive player than Jordan. When people talk crazy, they need to be put in place… All I’m sayin…
