Euro Trip : Euroleague Quarterfinals Preview
Danielle Vecchi keeps pushin’ his Euro hoops coverage.
EUROLEAGUE QUARTERFINALS
Eight teams are came out from the last week of Euroleague Top 16, the best eight european teams who will face the Quarterfinals (best-of-three series) in april.
These are the Quarterfinals, the first team will play the third game at home:
-MONTEPASCHI SIENA (ITALY) vs FENERBAHCE ULKER ISTANBUL (TURKEY)
Montepaschi Siena will find the almost italian Bogdan Tanjevic, the coach of the Italy European Champion in 1999, right now Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul’s coach. Montepaschi is favorite to the Final Four.
-TAU CERAMICA VITORIA (SPAIN) vs PARTIZAN IGOKEA BELGRADE (SERBIA)
Tau Ceramica Vitoria will play against the lionheart Partizan Igokea Belgrade and against the hell of Pionir in Game Two. Tau is favorite, but it will be tough to go past the Black & White warriors.
-MACCABI ELITE TEL AVIV (ISRAEL) vs AXA FC BARCELONA (SPAIN)
Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv and Axa FC Barcelona probably will arrive at the third elimination game at Yad Eliyahu in Tel Aviv, but the Blaugrana experienced players can do the difference in the crunch time.
-CSKA MOSKOW (RUSSIA) vs OLYMPIACOS PIRAEUS (GREECE)
Olympiacos is surprisingly the only greek team in the quarterfinals, and could be the real outsider of the four series. Cska is obviously favorite, but the american gang from Piraeus could be dangerous for the russians.
Big big surprises in this Quarterfinals, without very important teams like the defending Champs, Panathinaikos Athens, sent off by Montepaschi Siena and Partizan Igokea Belgrade in the Group D, and without Real Madrid, the team who will host the Final Four, just third in Group F behind Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv and Olympiacos Piraeus. The Final Four in Madrid will start from May 2nd.

mmmhhh, Sefos, maybe you’re right, but… keep an eye on Basile and his “tiri ignoranti”… seriously, Maccabi could win, but Barcelona has the big motivation to play in the hated Madrid the Final Four.

I think basile is not quite what he used to be. Lakovic could be a problem but he’s not such a great big-game player. I think maccabi just has too much up front, with Vujcic and Morris. Of course, i am a Maccabi fan so im biased, but still…

Sefos, Basile is right now 33 years old, and the great days with Fortitudo seems far from here and today. I agree with you that the Maccabi front line is better than Barca, and that Lakovic is not (not always) a crunch time player, but in a single game, especially on the road or an elimination game or both, Basile could win the game. It depends from millions of things, but if it’s a close game and he has the shot, he can kill the game.
Max, Partizan is a fighter team, and could put in trouble the basque at Pionir, but frankly Tau is superior. For Partizan is just a great result to be in the Quarterfinals.

Well, Daniele, I guess we’ll see. I’m hoping for Yotam Halperin to continue putting it all together as he has been lately. And if Omri Casspi has a good series, he just might play himself into the first round next year.

when I see Pionir chanting I’m captured…. wow. you’re right Pionir is hell for the challengers
Mar.24 at 5:09 pm
Daniele Vecchi says:
Yes sometimes Halperin is impressive, great vision, great passer and high basketball IQ. I’ve seen the game against Zalgiris and he’s been decisive. And yes, Casspi is an interesting prospect.

maybe a best-of three series is short… maybe the first round is too long… don’t you think?
