Ridiculous…What will the NBA benefit by having the Sonics move to OKC? I haven’t heard a good reason from Stern yet.

John E. Sanford says:
This is completely ludicrous!!! What benefit is it going to be to have a pro franchise in Oklahoma City? Seriously? Sh*t like this is way the NBA is losing ratings and folks are losing interest in the game. Obviously there or other factors, but franchises moving to smaller cities isn’t helping.

Fredo says:
Seattle seemed uninterested in finding a solution that involved shelling a single dime from their coffers. That’s why the team is headed to the smallest possible pro market in sports. They’re willing to play ball with the NBA.

Seattle sucks. I hate that city and all their professional sports teams. I also hate Memphis and Charlotte for some reason.

Cam Jones says:
The reason the Sonics are moving is because the city of Seattle can’t afford the team. They are closing schools in that town and if they can’t afford to educate then they can’t afford to entertain. Maybe in a few years when the city’s economy stabilizes then you get together a proposal to bring back the Sonics the right way in a fly new stadium or a freshly renovated Key Arena

What has changed since David Stern came to Olympia two years ago w/ Howard Schultz to speak to state congressional leaders about possible tax funds for a RENOVATED KEY ARENA?!? Why is it out of the question now, especially with $300 million on the table from Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer & Co. to renovate? Stern’s an effing punk…

I really can’t stand all of you ignorant idiots out there who just can’t understand why the Sonics are moving to Oklahoma City. Here is the reason: there is not enough people who care about the Sonics there. Plain and simple. Sure they have the money now, but Stern has been after them for forever to renovate the arena. It’s just too late. And OKC showed they can support a pro team better than most big cities when they had the Hornets and had third best attendance in the league.

Holy Baller, you just won the Wrongest Opinion in the World award, congrats! The heat has only been on Seattle since Bennett demanded a $500mil stadium from the city, and seeing as Stern and Bennett are close, personal friends and it was Bennett’s plan all along to move the team, Stern is helping him. Have a nice day.

Holy Baller says:
DJ Leon Smith, if you owned an NBA franchise and your attendance record was terrible and you weren’t making any money, would you not want to improve the situation? That is what he wanted with the stadium renovation. I don’t care if he was planning to move the city anyway, the city of Seattle did not care enough at the time to stop the Sonics from moving. Bottom line: from a business perspective, moving to OKC was gold for Bennett. And what SLAM failed to mention is that Stern and three other NBA owners went to OKC and they ALL agreed that the move was a good idea. So obviously my opinion is supported by someone else.

why dont he move em’ to san antonio so they can be his NEW favorite team of interest and theyll never hafta worry about losing a close game, earning the no.1 pick or even carrying the ball

Holy Baller, how is moving from the 14th largest market in America (w/Microsoft, Boeing, & endless biotech money; gateway to Asian markets) to the 45th largest in OKC golden for Bennett? Sounds incredibly f#%&ing stupid to me. And did you ever think that all the other owners are supporting the move because possibly, just possibly, many of them will be looking for each other’s support when they try to hijack their communities for more funds when their arenas become “obsolete”. Supporting Clay is probably a little easier when you might be walking in similarly greed-soaked shoes someday soon. Ask the Spurs, who are World Champions, playing in a building that’s 5 years old, and are already asking for a remodel because they claim they are losing money. Come on. It all makes a little more sense than your theory.

RiseKing says:
BTW, for a lame duck team that’s 17-55, has unloaded all it’s top role players, is coached by Latrell Carlisimo, and gives Elson, Donyell Marshall, and Johan Petro big minutes, the Sonics average within’ 1,000 fans of nearly 1/3 of the teams in the NBA. This team sold out nearly every home game for the past 20 years before Clay Bennett came on board. saveoursonics.org, hit it up and get educated on the situation and the team’s storied history in our community…don’t be ignorant.

Mar.27 at 9:03 am

Holy Baller says:
That’s because they were decently good 20 years ago. You make Clay Bennett out to be the devil when it’s not his fault for everything. Not all owners are greedy little crooks. Maybe Bennett is, but hey, he owns the team, he has that right. The reason he got ownership was because no one else wanted the Sonics. They wanted the Sonics to stay in Seattle but no one else would take them so they had to sell to Bennett.

there’s only one man in Seattle who can solve this: dr. Frasier Crane.
