Chris Paul Puts Rafer Alston in His Place
With the push to get into the postseason intensifying in both conferences, the stress level is no doubt rising, and guys are going after one another on and off the court.
The latest war of words is between CP3 and Skip, and after Rafer dissed his teammate David West, Paul knocked Alston down a few pegs.
“Tracy McGrady is a great player. If I was Rafer Alston, I’d probably ride his coattails too.
“When you got somebody like Rafer Alston, who thinks they’re a lot better than they really are, you gotta test them. I feel like you can make a statement with the way you play. But some guys like Rafer Alston like to run their mouth … that just added fuel to our fire tonight. D-West, that’s my guy. For him to say he’s not a star, I mean let’s see what All-Star Game [Alston]’s played in.”
Ladies and germs, I present you the NBA’s equivalent of (bleep) sit down!
Sadly, Houston and New Orleans don’t play again this season. Rafer’s mother, however, is busy burning anything with Chris Paul’s name or image on it.

love the “Rafer Alston”. No first-name basis for CP3, he’s serious. I love Rafer’s game this year, but LOVE how CP3 disses Rafer while giving Tracy props. Funny stuff.

Another MVP move by CP3. How sweet would it be if they met in the playoffs?

Skip needs to be knocked down a few pegs anyway. AND1 fame doesn’t last forever, buddy.

I guess someone should have taken this approach in defense of Lebron on the Cavs against D-Waste Stevenson and everything would have been hunky dory in that talent vs. no talent battle.

Thank God, it’s about time someone put no nonsense into Rafer. Rafer is a good maybe solid player at times, but that’s not a good reason for him to become a jerk.

Rafer played better than Tmac during the run. CP3 is a hater. Its nice to see players saying whats really on their minds though.

Wow… now that is a comment that an MVP candidate makes. Alston was trying-emphasis on trying-to play with so much swagger during their run. In the Boston game he got too big for his britches. I love Skip for what he’s done, but he does need to slow his roll a bit…

hursty says:
whahuh, whatever dude… did you see tmac play, he was vintage except for the last few games. skip was just playing at the level he was always expected to -above his noncommiting potential.
I love skip and tmac, but you just dont go calling dudes out like that. There is a reason CP3 will be all nba this year-and its not for talking smack.

WOW! CP3 aint even sugar/coating it or anything. Just rafer Alston this, that. GREAT!
But for really though, Rafer Alston needs to chill. My boy Rondo would have torn him a new one.

People's Princess says:
CP3’s not a hater.A bit cocky maybe, but not a hater.Paul’s been doing all year what Skip did in the game against L.A.And if D West isn’t a superstar, its a crying shame cos he’s a hair’s breadth away from a 20-10 average.Quietest 20-10er in the Lig,maybe except for Timbot..

I bet Rondo vs Rafer would be a pretty good fight. Rondo is younger and more athletic but Skip’s got that NYC grit. I bet some of the little guys in the L can strap.

D-Advocate says:
Rafer arguably has the best spin move I’ve seen. Hopefully we get to see Hornets versus Rockets in the first round. But as well as David West played he shouldn’t have been in the All-Star game, I would have had Deron Williams on the team over David. Deron shoots over 50% from the field, over 40% from 3 and he’s averaging 19 points, 10 assists. Deron Williams got snubbed twice too, including last year, did Tony Parker play better than Deron last year! Noooo!

I like how he said Rafer thinks he’s better than he really is. That’s some cold-blooded stuff right there.
Mar.21 at 11:26 am

And you should have added the quote were Paul said that Rafer had a hard time staying in front of him and that was part of the plan. Now that’s how you talk sh*t.

Dutch Rich says:
@ Eboy. My opinion is you win and until the next game you get to talk smack. But this hierarchy of who can talk and who can’t is just nonsense. Stevenson won, got to talk smack. Skip is from NY so he can only talk smack. CP3 waited patiently to whup his @ss and then talked smack. What’s the problem?
I do want to mention that skip’s problem is one of temper. He might need a few therapy session if they want to maintain a spot in the top 8, cause he’s on self-destruct mode. Rondo vs Skip is free for all, Bron vs Deshawn is like Mike vs G. Anthony, and CP vs Skip might actually cause a riot. But it’s all wood for the fire, though.

ya’ll must have been asleep yesterday because i got no reaction when i posted in the post up, but the mistake rafer made was saying dwest was only a star to his team, i think in this case he just made an honest mistake. There was another part where it said him and chandler talked pregame, shook hands and decided to chill out, so he did apologize i guess in a way, but he definitely was getting too cocky..

great comeback CP3 u really told him where 2 stick it,and u really should have…i mean what has skip 2 my lou done in the league?not much?thats what i thought.its so funny how role players run their mouths on players that would make them look like a high school player one on one…how is david west not a star?hes provin night after night…rafer alston should still have his old job AND1 that suits him a lot better…and by the way Russ, why would CP3 not go to rucker this summer?whos gonna stop him?most of them guys aint been in the league and really aint good enough to be or they would be…go back to AND1 and stay there skip, thats where your talent is…it sure aint in the NBA.

The Illest says:
Well as leader of the Chris Paul fanclub, I found this to be highly entertaining, but in all honesty I don’t think Skip was trying to diss D-West. He was just saying that he felt missing a “superstar” like Yao meant more than missing a “star” in D-West. That’s debatable obviously, but I think most people hold Yao in a higher regard than West, so I see what he was saying. I don’t think he was trying to say he was a scrub. But if it helps NO get those wins, im all for the motivation.

My favorite Skip (paraphrased) quote after my C’s broke the Rockets streak… “History will remember this… well, aybe not the players names… (meaning he’s not egotistical enough to think the streak would get him into the HOF…) Anyway, yeah. Please shut up & play Skip. Tell DeShawn that too…

Styliztik says:
chris paul needs to respect Rafer. If it wasn’t for Skip, paul wouldn’t dribble or pass the way he does. No, Rafer didn’t invent “change-of-direction” moves or fancy passes, but he changed the game. In SLAM’s words, “The Revolution was Televised”, indeed. paul will never match Skip. I don’t care if paul wins 3 or 4 MVPs in his career, he will never be able to match the legacy Skip left behind for the state of basketball, not just at 155th/Frederick Douglass Blvd., not just in the States, but WORLDWIDE.
