Melo Wants Ron-Ron on His Team

Though Ron claims that he no longer wants to be traded, it is widely believed that he is being shopped, and Carmelo Anthony wants to be a buyer.

(Careful what you wish for, Melo, you might just get it.)

Yes!

I mean I see the need for a good defensive player, but Ron Ron likes to take shots. I can’t see how he’ll be satisfied when AI and Melo are the primary options.

what says:
I guess they could run a small lineup with Melo and Artest at the forward spots and AI and Anthony Carter/JR Smith in the backcourt or something… but yea it’s hard to see how Artest is gonna adjust to taking 8 shots a game. I’m just glad I traded him in fantasy before his value plummets.

Ron takes shots because he has to. He doesn’t want to.

So Ron Ron is like Clemens?

I think Melo is crazier than Ron-Ron. Spend some time working on your own defense and you wouldn’t NEED Artest.

Russ Bengtson says:
Michael: Was that sarcasm? Dude was taking ALL the shots the year of the brawl. I think he was averaging something like 25 points a game when the fight happened. And they weren’t all good shots. He gets a little three-happy sometimes.

why would melo want the nugs to have another forward. he just wants someone to ride shotgun instead of AI

Glen says:
Artest HAS to take shots? Not quite. In case you didn’t notice, Kevin Martin is averaging like 20 on 9 attempts (these numbers may be wrong, but that’s what it seems like watching Kings games). Are you telling me Artest had to shoot more than Martin, Miller (playing his best basketball since coming to the Kings), Garcia, Udrih, etc? The Kings are not short on talent, they just have to learn to play together much better and get healthy.

I think Artest would dial back his shooting on a team would two proven scorers. Mike is right, he only scores now because the team needs it and because he thinks that’s the best way to get paid in the league. I think with Melo and AI he would focus on just defense and boards. Plus, AI and Melo get people easy shots anyway. A five or AI, Melo, Artest, Camby and Martin would be fierce. After all, Artest has proven he can stay with two guards, which is something Melo struggles with. Imagine how they would punish teams inside. Or they could go small with AI, Carter, Melo, ARtest and Camby and still punish people.

Artest was shooting 49 percent the year of the brawl. He’s got the gift, just a little soft in the head.

Think about this big 3 in denver - Carmelo = Crazy Game, AI = Crazy Competior, Ron Ron = Crazy Crazy

I actually like this trade except for one thing: they’d probably have to give up Linus Kleiza to get him. If they could get him for JR Smith and a pick that would be awesome, but giving up Kleiza is too much for what will probably end up being a one-year playoff boost.

How about trading Nene or K-Mart for Artest then he can play for PF position?

Russ this is what the man said himself in an interview with me in Long Island this past summer. http://thestartingfive.wordpress.com/2007/12/19/interview-with-sacramento-kings-forward-ron-artest-i-keep-it-100/

This will not work. Melo really really needs to step up his D. I’ve been watching him all his career and see that the man do not play defense he is just so gifted that he can score easily I mean without any effort. If he can only stpe up his D, like any normal defense then maybe the nuggets won’t need to trade.

melo can play the 4 spot. he did it for TEAM USA. he can rebound. his defense is improving (slowly but surely) might just work.

jr smith and eduardo najera for ron artest. Kings need a hustle guy like that to complement martin who can go take 20 shots a game and become an amazing scorer just too leave sacto when his contract expires:P. Maybe denver adds a first round pick. remember how wells and artest punished teams inside. Melo Artest. Nene comes back. If only they had a real point guard. AI tries real hard but he isn’t a real point. He takes too many ineffective dribbles. He can be a lot more productive as a 1 but he hasn’t fully developed that when he was younger.

Yeah, I wouldn’t want to lose Kleiza either. He’s their most consistent deep threat.

I have to agree with Russ…maybe if Melo would play some DEFENSE himself he wouldn’t have to worry about trying to get Artest…Just a thought. With that said, I actually think Ron Ron would do well in Denver. One of there main problems seems to be perimeter defense and he would certainly supply that. A back court with him/Melo/Camby and backups of Kenyon and Nene (when he comes back, folks forget that he is out injured and is an important piece to the Nuggets) would be crazy. Like someone mentioned, if they could get Artest without giving up Klieza that would be nice. If they had to give up Klieza I would like to see Denver get Mike Miller (who’s outside shot is more consistant) from Memphis in return.
