Knicks Win, Fight Amongst Themselves

by Marcel Mutoni

Everyone’s favorite laughing stock, the New York Knickerbockers, got a rare win last night. They gutted out a tough overtime victory in Washington, and it appears that the effort might have been sparked by a little brouhaha on the bench.

Randolph threw a cup of water at Robinson, who responded by tossing back a towel before they were separated.

Randolph, who had missed an ugly shot just prior to the skirmish, called it heat of the moment.

Ho hum, just another day in Knickville.

I sincerely hope that Vince Carter joins this band of basketball crazies. If Nate Robinson throws a towel at him, he’ll either cry or be out for the season with a migraine. Seriously, Isiah, make this happen.

I hope the Knicks trade for Vince AND Ron-Ron. Then they would win the Golden Globe for Best Comedy.

Tariq says:
Make that Best Comedy or Musical.

I’m confused how a bench skirmish is going to spur a team to victory…

…and get Jarmain O’Neal while your’re at it.

Randolph misses a bunch of ugly shots. What made this one any different??

Nate Robinson is awesome.

Is the Knicks season written and directed by the Onion? Wait a minute… the Onion makes sense. Guess not. Sorry about that people!

white hot eboy says:
This is so odd, since usually great teams could argue in-game about something and fire themselves up for a win. But the Knicks?……hmmmm

phunkykarma says:
When Zach Randolph got traded from the Blazers, I truly believed that the Knicks would turn into a great team.

Feb.20 at 10:40 am

Russ Bengtson says:
The best part about that game was that Eddy Curry sat out the final 23:41. Showcase! During the couple of minutes I was actually awake during the game, I saw him a) plow someone over and get called for the offensive foul–his signature move–and b) get dunked on (twice, I think) by Andray Blatche.

Ryne Nelson says:
Thanks for the video, peteb. I’m not completely convinced that was due to anger or conflict. The players could have been horsing around…or they just could have been feuding.

Feb.20 at 10:51 am

Russ Bengtson says:
Because “horsing around” is much better during the last minute of a tie game?

The Knicks obviously don’t care about the game’s outcome at his point…so yeah.

i wish zach would have backpedaled 50 feet after throwing the water, you know, in tribute to carmelo.

Feb.20 at 11:02 am

Ryne Nelson says:
Solely based on the lack of reaction from the rest of the team, I can’t say right away it was done with malice. It would be nice to hear what Randolph and Robinson said after the game about it.

Feb.20 at 11:04 am

mutoni says:
zach said it was a heat of the moment thing. by which he meant he’d be waiting for that midget in the parking lot afterwards.

Feb.20 at 11:10 am

Ryne Nelson says:
Okay, so I was wrong…it’s still tough love in NY

Feb.20 at 11:31 am

Randy Brown says:
When I read it, it says ‘Randolph threw a cup of water at Randolph and Robinson responded by tossing back a towel’. I prefer this version, where Randolph gets so annoyed at himself he throws water all over himself. Then Robinson, seeing one of his teammates being assaulted, throws a towel at Randolph to distract him from attacking Randolph

Nate Robinson is trill but someone needs to beat his ass so he will understand he is not as big as he believes he is. I guess he is like a modern day Napolean Banoparte. Except he ain’t taken over countries. play wit it.

Feb.20 at 1:40 pm

riggs says:
zach was arguing with quentin, and since baby hulk is quentins lil brother per se, he started talking ish, zach as well know is a big baby and doesnt like being talked to like that, so he threw the water at nate as any child would do, since nate is everybody’s favorite lil bodyguard everybody stepped in to stop the situation fast.

I hope the argument was sparked by Nate saying “Hey Zach: it’s 90-90 with a minute left. Try not to shoot the three.”

Rob Paxon says:
For every terrible miss Zach has he makes a 5 of the same kind of terrible shot. That’s just his game… it definitely looks ugly when he misses. There are other things to be better criticizing him about. Get rid of Curry and bring in a decent defensive center to add to a Randolph/Lee rotation or get rid of Curry AND Randolph, try to turn them and/or other assets into a quality young big, and run that big out there alongside Lee. Then deal with the PG and SF issues… yikes..

Sarah says:
That is one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen. Is it my imagination, or or people in the first few rows of seats actually laughing and applauding? I love how Isiah just looks up and watches after the water is thrown. Coach of the Year..

Harlem_World says:
They didn’t grind out a tough win, the Wizards lost a gimme. Daniels messed up. I was there at the game and the Knicks are an embarrassment to all things NYC. Lee, Nate and Crawford are the only pieces worth keeping. Randolph is not leading you anywhere but to mediocrity on a good day. Outside shooting Power Forward with no athleticism and issues? He’s garbage. Lee needs more time and Isiah isn’t even respected by the 11th and 12th players. Sorry ass excuse for a basketball franchise.

SLAM ONLINE | » Knicks Bickering, Depressed says:
[…] Yesterday in Toronto, they experienced yet another humiliating episode on their own bench: A frustrated Quentin Richardson got into his teammates’ faces as they walked back to the pine, kicking and screaming, and he was promptly ignored as the Knicks were easily beaten by the Raptors. “We were losing, I was frustrated,” Richardson said after bolting the locker room early. “I was just trying to motivate the guys. It comes a point where I get so aggravated, I scream and yell.” […]
