Kidd Trade Not Quite Dead
Despite Devean George’s brilliant attempt to remind everyone that he is, in fact, still alive, the Kidd-to-Dallas deal could still happen.
Nets GM Rod Thorn seems pretty sure that Jason Kidd’s days as a Net are done.
Though the blockbuster trade that the Nets and Mavericks agreed on Wednesday night is still “on hold,” it is also still “very much” alive, according to Nets president Rod Thorn.
If the deal isn’t consummated today, it will have to wait until next week since the League office is closed for All-Star weekend.
As for Devean, Mark Cuban says he feels bad for him. Because he’s going to kill him with his bare hands, you see.

Is anyone else amused by the fact that the obscure clause that is holding up Kidd’s trade is called the “Early Bird” clause. Maybe that’s a sign from God to Mark Cuban, no?

You know I’m always trying to read in between the lines and some wild stuff came to mind. First off Kobe has an injured finger (needs surgery eventually) and has taken his name out of the 3 point contest. But he will play in the All-Star game and the NBA has notified him that they expect him to play. Sounds like Kobe is really injured and the NBA is just trying to milk him for All Star weekend dollars. How can you play a game but not just shoot a few 3’s? I think the NBA is trying to get Kobe. What do you think? Also for the last few weeks the NBA has been in limbo on deciding what to do if Jason Kidd was traded. They didn’t know if they should play him on the West All-Star team or the East. They also didn’t know if he should start etc. There were all kinds of possible problems had he been traded before All Star break and the NBA openly admitted they didn’t have any answers. Now all of the sudden the Kidd trade can’t go through just days before the All Star break. hmmmmmmm? I think the NBA is up to somehting. You can blame it on Devean George if you want to but I bet this trade goes down as soon as All Star break is over.

what about the Stack issue ? Accorind to Yahoo!, the NBA is considering forbidding Stack to rejoin the Mavs after the trade because of possible tampering….Also accoring to Yahoo!: dallas management won’t pursue the trade if they can’t get stack back because that would create depth issues

Cuban killing George? How about Jason Kidd killing George, every chance he gets for Triple Doubles. Also possible chances of Carter being mercenary enlisted to do the Fred Weiss on George. Might cost Kidd’s entire yearly salary to fix up Carter’s legs and will to do it, but this deal will get done.

Also Russ, freeze out like the Iverson benched-but probably not even in the building trade freeze out only a season and not that long ago? He disappeared from 30 PPG to like 2 weeks of invisibility. That’s the precedent for this happening. The NBA, where Iverson is 6 movies removed from Kevin Bacon, the Hollow Man happened.

mavs will not win a chip with its current group. they will need a dominant personality for that leadership role. trading for kidd is a high risk/(potential) high reward gamble, because if they don’t win it all within next 2 years, there will be nothing left from kidd and they’ve just traded a big asset.
so question is should the mavs play it safe, compete at a high level, knowing they won’t win a chip and wait for a possible better hand to come, or go all in now and hope they can win it all in the suddenly-ultra-competitive west?
i suppose cuban opts for the latter. you don’t become this rich without some high stakes gamble.
