Eddie signed with the Mavs to have the chance to win a championship - it shouldn’t be surprising that he refuses to go to the Nets as salary cap filler

Devean George was saying “Me & my agent just need to look at some options and not jump at the 1st opportunity. Ummm, I thought this was a trade, not a free agent signing. Just go where your sent, end of story. This is why no-trade clauses are rare, it never looks good for the player.

thats what i’m saying…send 5 teams of these cry babies to europe and play in their own fantasy world where only 5 teams could win a chip…

This is hilarious. Cuban has it too nice in Dallas, nobody wants to leave.

I didn’t know you could trade a player and pick him up again in the same season.
This is all karma for what Cuban did to Nash. I love you Devean George…even with your ‘dead eyes’.

I understand why a team would give Kobe or Larry Bird a no-trade clause, but devean george and eddie jones? did harold minor have one back in the day too? actually, if they have a no trade clause, who doesn’t have one?

JW says:
It’s not a “no-trade clause”, homes. It’s called “Early Bird rights.” According to the Follower, “league rules dictate that players on a one-year contract — but who spent the previous season with the same team and are thus eligible for Early Bird free-agent rights at the end of the contract — cannot be traded without their consent.”

Jukai says:
Mike, they don’t have a no trade clause. Under the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement, a player who has “early bird rights” at the end of a contract has veto power over a trade because he’d lose those rights if dealt. Early Bird Rights, to my understanding, are agents who sign a one year deal TWICE, and then can re-sign with that team for well over the salary cap. What I don’t get is why George is even arguing with because he’s not worth half that much money.

RV says:
you all dont get why he’s stopping the trade, but put yourself in his shoes, why wouldn’t you exercise that right if your happy where your are at? It pisses me off too that he’s holding up the trade, but you can’t blame the guy, i think its more f*cked up for a superstar to demand a trade than a role guy to exercise an option which is part of his contract.

His mother and agent strongly object to that Jukai!

RV says:
coolwhip, once he’s bought out he basically becomes a free agent so he’s free to go to any team
Feb.14 at 2:58 pm
Jukai says:
That’s gotta be violating some sort of NBA rule… I mean, there’s NOTHING in the CBA that doesn’t allow that? I guess if the team wants to spend the money…

Russ Bengtson says:
Eddie Jones doesn’t have a no-trade clause either, he’d just immediately quit. At least that’s the way I read it. And it sounds like Devean just wants an extension on his contract as a bonus to go away.

I don’t know about Eddie because I didn’t read the link (sorry Marcel) but in Devean’s case, its in the contract so………

Jukai says:
No, it’s not in his contract. Christ.
Feb.14 at 3:34 pm
Russ Bengtson says:
It’s just part of the CBA. Sign a second one-year tender (I believe), and you have the right to decline to be traded in order to protect your Bird rights. I’m still not sure how Bird rights will help a guy who–at best–would get some sort of ecxeption anyway, but it’s still his right to decline the trade.

Co Co says:
Either way, can you blame them for not wanting to go to Jersey? LeBron doesn’t sign with them till after the 2010 season or something like that.

Or, what Jukai already said a long time ago.

Kevin Wilson says:
I’m with Big Country on this one. The collective bargaining agreement has the “Early Bird” clause to protect players like George who take less in order to play for a winner. The Mavericks tried to reward his sacrifice by sending him to a lottery team trying to dump salary. If you don’t like it, don’t blame George for wanting to stay with a winner; blame the player’s association for looking out for the best interests of veterans.

Poor Devean. He looked real sheepish in that interview. I understand where he’s coming from, but how can he think that he’ll come out of this situation in good shape? There’s no good ending to staying in Big D.

Jukai says:
Kevin, honestly the rule is more like a punishment for signing a player to crappy one year deals continuously instead of giving him a long term deal. I’m not too upset about it. Poor Jason Kidd though.
