Our past governer had an addiction of taking money from the education fund (in the state with the 2nd worst education system in the country) and funneling it into the hands of already-rich CEOs. I don’t think Chuck could be much worse for us.

And as all of you have alluded to, Alabama is one of the least progressive states in the Union. It’s not uncommon to walk past people in public and see “The South Will Rise Again” emblazened on something. It’s ridiculous. That fake Christians comment was spot on too. We’ve shot down a lottery twice, and our kids suffer for it. While Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida enjoy wonderful school systems that Alabama residents help to pay for by driving to the borders to buy lottery tickets. That lack of progression also robs Alabama of its best & brightest. At least 8 of my college buddies left the state to teach because they paid more, but they all would have preferred to stay home.
Much like Obama, though, I think Chuck will find resistance from the old guard. Just like Obama’s been getting the cold shoulder from Jesse Jackson & Al Sharpton, Chuck will have that same problem with the career politicians here. I’ve heard him speak many times about how he can’t invest any of his money back into Alabama because the decision makers lack vision.
