Trade Winds Swirling in Jersey and Chicago

by Marcel Mutoni

The Nets, currently mired in a hideous freefall, are rumored to be involved in serious trade talks with a number of teams around the League. One of the reportedly interested parties is the Chicago Bulls, and if it goes through, it would be something of a monster trade:

According to league sources, the Bulls have discussed sending rugged forward Andres Nocioni and second-year guard Thabo Sefolosha to the Nets for Bostjan Nachbar, Marcus Williams, Antoine Wright and Jamaal Magloire. There might be other parts in the proposed deal.

As someone who goes hard at all times, and actually cares about defense and rebounding, Nocioni would be a terrific fit in Jersey. Throw in the promising Sefolosha, and the Nets look like the winners in the deal should it happen.

With the way the season has gone for both teams up to this point, they almost have to make a move of some kind don’t they? Even if it’s for the sake of just doing something to show their respective fanbases that they’re at least trying.

Dizzle says:
I think this would be a good trade as well. It does seem like NJ would be giving up a lot. But you’re right, Nocioni is what they need. But they’re giving up on two players that were supposed to give them a lift this year, Magloire and Marcus, but they haven’t done squat. I say do it, and maybe (maybe) Magloire can be half decent if he goes to Chicago (I hope he gets in a fight with Wallace and Noah)

Russ? RUSS?

Russ Bengtson says:
Unless the “other parts” in this deal are Jason Kidd and Richard Jefferson, I’m 500 percent not interested.

Russ Bengtson says:
Unless the Bulls are out to corner the market on over-the-hill centers and undersized guards, in which case I say go for it.

Jan.24 at 12:03 pm

Bryan says:
But why do the nets make that deal , who the hell is their backup point guard?

Jan.24 at 12:06 pm

Keith says:
Be happy Russ. You might get ‘Allstar centre’ Jamaal Magloire.

Russ Bengtson says:
I’d rather see them trade for Shaq.

Isn’t Marcus Williams another midget guard?

Jan.24 at 12:17 pm

Solito says:
The Bulls would be stupid to trade Nocioni… I would wait this one out, Pax. I think they can turn it around. Also Pax: GET TAHBO ON THE COURT!!! Why did you draft him if you don’t want to paly him?!!!

Jan.24 at 12:18 pm

eyehatedirk says:
I’m convinced that trades will not happen before the deadline. None.

Jan.24 at 12:19 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Thabo has been playing lately since Duhon and Deng are out. He’s been playing fairly well, too. And Noc is the only guy on that squad who has any damn heart (except for Noah, and his teammates hate him for it). I cannot overstate how STUPID this trade would be.

As a die-hard Nets fan, I hope it will happen. Sad to see Marcus go, other than that: let’s do this.
Or…. Vince Carter, Magloire and Wright for Ben Gordon and Nocioni? That’s asking too much. Oh well….

that would propel the lakers and make the nets … it would really help the lakers

Jan.24 at 12:35 pm

TADOne says:
Jared: I was just referencing the Pippen comments from last month. Anything under 6′6 is midget to Scottie.

Jan.24 at 12:52 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
I think I’m just going to root for the Jazz for the rest of the season.

andacagar says:
Nocioni? Why would the Bulls do that? He’s their best player. I’d love to see that go through for my Nets. I’m not convinced that Marcus Williams is our(NJ) pg of the future. These Argentine players get no love. Manu/Noci/Oberto/Scola/Delvino all do good for their teams but get no respect. Big up Argentina home of the great Boca Jrs.

Jan.24 at 1:16 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Um, Manu gets a TON of respect.

I would put Noah in the starting lineup, instead of Ben Wallace. And the numbers would prove me right.

good call tad, my bad for bein an r-tard

Jan.24 at 1:29 pm

underdog says:
Maybe somebody whispered something about the trade to Kirk Hinrich, so that’s why he dropped 38 against Indy. Too bad, if I read ‘Kirk Hinrich’ and ‘38′ in the same sentence, shooting percentage is the first thing comes into my mind.

Jan.24 at 1:30 pm

TADOne says:
I wasn’t going to call you a retard Jared. Scottie on the other hand……..

Jan.24 at 1:45 pm

G Diesel says:
Why would this be a big trade, if a Vince, Kidd,or Jefferson aren’t involved. When did fu#*in Bostjan Nachbar become a Franchise player?

Jan.24 at 1:49 pm

Sko says:
you know, I thought we should have signed, Magloire instead of Smith over the summer. He’s looked like dead weight in NJ but their roster wasn’t built around a low post threat that they no longer have. I don’t know if Magloire could be effective in the Chi, but I do know that it’s too late for all of that, and he’s not worth Noc right now. It might actually make both teams better in the short term, if we can get Wallace back to the 4, but it doesn’t solve the Ben Gordon conundrum, and I don’t like it, which if you’re keeping score, counts for zero.

Jan.24 at 2:02 pm

maio says:
The Bulls were cursed when they allowed Gordon to wear Toni’s number. I say trade him for Kerry Kittles or something.
Nets should ask for that Aaron Gray kid.

Nocioni is the last thing left for me to love about the Bulls.

ak47 says:
I just want Jason Kidd to have a decent and realistic chance at a title every year for the rest of his career instead of playing with the losers he has now! He deserves it!

Jan.24 at 3:14 pm

Fredo says:
It’s such a bad trade, it can’t help but happen. Chicago would be trading their most consistent scorer and one of their better guard prospects for a nice buffet of back-ups. Meanwhile where are Nocioni and Jefferson supposed to play? That trade only makes sense for them if they ship RJ out for other parts.

Jan.24 at 3:33 pm

Darksaber says:
FREE THABO, damnit! Swiss Brother is getting no PT on a team that is more interested in voting players off road trips? Then he gets on the court and uses the all around game he has to take on the Heat and Pistons, so what does the coach do? Back to the Bench. Merde, indeed. If Thabo needs to back up RJ/Vince (both of whom can’t hold a candle to him in the defense department) then so be it! Free THABOOOOOOOO!

Jan.24 at 3:34 pm

Darksaber says:
And the Snackbar is no “fluff”!

Jan.24 at 4:13 pm

NBA Observer says:
This trade makes little sense to me as a Bulls fan. The players involved don’t add up. Chicago just signed Nocioni to a very healthy contract in the offseason. Nocioni starts for Chicago if Deng is traded. He probably would start for most teams in the NBA that don’t have a superstar already at the SF. I think the Nets/Bulls rumors have to involve bigger name players than are making it to press. The trade checkers don’t even allow a Nocioni/Thabo for Magloire/Nachbar/Wright/Williams trade. Nocioni’s base year contract status makes it harder to deal him.

Jan.24 at 4:26 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
The Bulls should start Deng AND Nocioni. I’d like to see a starting lineup of Hinrich, Deng (when he’s healthy), Nocioni, Smith and Noah.

Jan.24 at 5:40 pm

WeS says:
Well, I like Marcus Williams and Antoine Wright, but I dont know how I feel about giving up Noc. I like Thabo too. In fact, this is a bad trade and I hope its not true.

JONATHAN HELMICK says:
THEY ARE JUST RUMORS THE BULLS WILL AND WONT TRADE NOCIONI HE IS HAVING ONE OF HIS BEST SEASON IN CHICAGO. THEY MIGHT STILL TRADE THAT OTHER GUY JUST TO GET SOME MORE BENCH DETPH…

I’d like to draw your attention to this sentence of Russ’s about 20 comments in: “I think I’m just going to root for the Jazz for the rest of the season.” Music to my ears - and yes I’ll take it at face value despite it coming from a Chicago fan. (OK so that’s a strech) …
..
. So when’s the Deron/Boozer cover coming?
(”As soon as we start playing well consistently” is too obvious an answer, by the way)

Jan.25 at 9:18 am

Russ Bengtson says:
I actually DO like the Jazz. Besides the fact that Jerry Sloan is one of the most legendary Bulls of all-time (and the fact that I like him for being so curmudgeonly and unlikeable), they play a fast-tempo game and are full of talented, likeable guys. Boozer, Williams, Kirilenko, Okur–how could you NOT like the Jazz?

Jan.25 at 6:19 pm

Old Skool Sloan says:
Ditto Russ (as my id suggests). As a proud Illinoisian(?) you can root for the Jazz in addition to the Bulls cause they got a former Illini on the squad. Williams’ game against Arizona was The Truth!!

GGG says:
As a nets fan I would love to see this happen (but doubt the Bulls would withought draft pick(s) and other consideration). Would love to see VC gone…that stupid last shot against the warriors reminds me why he will always be a “could of, should of, would of…but didnt” class of player - he has a permanently pulled heart muscle.
