The Post Up: CP3, CP3, CP3

All Star? MVP? Chris Paul is forcing everyone to remember his name.

By: Holly MacKenzie

Quiet night in the league after a busy weekend. As usual, New Orleans was killing it. The race for coach of the year is going to go down to the wire. I’ve been on the Nate MacMillan bandwagon, watching these kids pull together, shock everyone and win by playing the right way, but damn, Byron Scott and these Hornets just won’t go away.

Chris Paul isn’t just showing his all-star status, he is making a serious push for MVP. With David West and Tyson Chandler, CP3 has led this team atop the West, scoring, creating, smiling, doing whatever is needed to get his team wins. Impressive wins too. San Antonio, Phoenix, now Denver. 17 assists tonight. Yup, kid is straight out balling his way into something. He is just running circles around everyone.

I’ve got too many teams to watch now. Lakers, Suns, Hornets, Blazers, Warriors, TWolves, Hawks, Nuggets, Basically the entire Western Conference, and then the Hawks. Also the Celtics. It’s been a good season so far.

Webber to the Warriors is basically a done-deal. This will be interesting. I hope he proves me wrong, but even when he was scoring 20+ a game, I just don’t think of him and winning in the same sentence. Please, C-Webb, prove my wrong for the sake of my Warrior-love.

Kyle Korver was clutch with the three in the Utah/San Antonio game last night. The Spurs have looked out of sorts on the road lately. But, they also look like they can turn it on at any given moment, so lets see how long they can (and will), play that game.

New Orleans 117 Denver 93

While the Nuggets have two all-star starters in Allen Iverson and Carmleo Anthony, they were without Anthony for the fourth straight game as he recovers from an ankle sprain. Without their leading scorer they struggled from the opening minutes until the final buzzer sounded as the New Orleans Hornets jumped over them early and did not let up, downing them 117-93 last night. Going up by as many as 20 points in the first half, the Hornets led 63-40 at the break and the second half was more of the same as New Orleans had only one quarter where they did not top 30 points while Denver didn’t reach 30 in any. The Hornets killed the Nuggets on the boards, out-rebounding them 52-33, while holding a 17-8 advantage on the offensive boards. Marcus Camby was held to only 5 rebounds in the game while it was Tyson Chandler who dominated the glass with 16 rebounds for the Hornets. The New Orleans offense was flowing and they had 32 assists as compared to only 18 for the Nuggets. Chris Paul continued his fantastic play with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 17 assists, just narrowly missing out on the triple-double. He added 2 steals and a blocked shot in there as well. Chandler had 10 points to go along with his 16 rebounds and Peja Stojakovic had 19 points while Melvin Ely had 16 points and 9 boards. Davis West scored 13 points to go with 9 rebounds and Jannero Pargo added 13 points and 7 assists. Iverson finished with 23 points for Denver, Kenyon Martin had 18 points and 9 rebounds while Linas Kleiza and JR Smith added 14 points apiece in the loss.

Dallas 103 Memphis 84

Thanks to a strong opening quarter and 16 quick points from Josh Howard, the Dallas Mavericks coasted to an easy victory in their game against the Grizzlies as Memphis never led in the 103-84 drubbing. After outscoring the Grizzlies 33-19 in the first quarter they went on to lead 61-44 at the half despite playing without starting point guard Devin Harris as well as Jerry Stackhouse. They went on to go up by as many as 29 points in the third quarter and led 84-63 at the start of the fourth where they rolled to the victory from then. Memphis was without Mike Conley Jr., who sat out his second straight game with a chest contusion. The Mavs out-rebounded Memphis 47-33 and they finished the game shooting 54% from the floor while Memphis shot just 42% in the contest. Josh Howard led Dallas with 26 points, Dirk Nowitzki had 20 points and 11 boards and Erick Dampier added 11 points and 12 rebounds. Jason Terry scored 14 points starting in place of Harris. Rudy Gay had 18 points in the loss, Kyle Lowry added 17 and Juan Carlos Navarro had 16 off of the bench. Pau Gasol scored 13 in his first game back after sitting due to back problems.

Utah 97 San Antonio 91

While San Antonio was almost able to pull out the comeback win against the Jazz it was their slow first quarter that ultimately did them in as they fell just short of coming back from 14 down in their 97-91 loss last night. After trailing 27-19 at the end of the first quarter, the Spurs trailed 55-45 at the break and made only 13-38 field goals in the second half of the game. While they were able to tie things on three occasions, they did not ever take a lead. Things got interesting in the fourth quarter, when the Spurs made their final push with a Ginobili three-point play to cut the lead to 91-87. Ime Udoka started jawing with Carlos Boozer and the officials and got thrown out of the game but not before the Jazz were able to convert on a technical free throw and hold off the Spurs in the final seconds. A huge three-pointer from Kyle Korver off of an offensive rebound by Matt Harpring with 48 seconds remaining sealed the victory for the Jazz. Carlos Boozer and Andrei Kirilenko scored 23 points apiece for the Jazz while Deron Williams had 11 points and 14 assists to go along with 4 steals. Manu Ginobili had 29 points off of the bench to lead the Spurs while Tim Duncan was the only starter to finish in double-figures with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Ime Udoka added 10 points as well.

Charlotte 107 LA Clippers 100

Without Corey Maggette and Chris Kaman the Clippers were unable to keep up with the Charlotte Bobcats last night and dropped a 107-100 decision to them on their home court. With Maggette out battling flulike symptoms and Kaman sitting with a bruised shin, the Bobcats had their way with the Clippers for most of the contest, going up by as many as 20 points in the third quarter as they turned a 10-point halftime advantage into a 19-point lead with under eight minute remaining in the game. The Clippers would use a quick run of their own in the final minutes to cut the lead, but they would get no closer than five points as Charlotte held on for only their fourth road win of the season. While it was a good shooting night for both teams with each finishing over 50% from the floor, the Bobcats were the aggressors, attempting 32 free throws (knocking down 24), as compared to only 14 attempts for the Clippers (who hit 13). While Charlotte connected on seven three-pointers in the game, Los Angeles could not get one to go down. Gerald Wallace led the way with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists, Jason Richardson had 20 points, Emeka Okafor added 14 points and 9 boards and Raymond Felton had 10 points and 8 assists for the Bobcats. Tim Thomas had 29 points and 13 rebounds for Los Angeles as Sam Cassell scored 17 and Quinton Ross added 15 off of the bench. Cuttino Mobley and Josh Powell each added 12 points.

How about the Clippers? They looked ugly with only a 9-man rotation. EBrand seems like he’s ready to get back into the swing of things again.

CP3 4 MVP has a nice ring to it.

Jan.29 at 9:54 am

Holly MacKenzie says:
I’m loving the guy, too. Absolutely tearing teams apart with his play. I will never knock on Iverson making the ASG, because he is Iverson, but CP3 certainly too it too him last night. The guy is ridiculous and he is making his entire squad look great.

Jan.29 at 9:55 am

white hot eboy says:
He’s got a great chance as long as they stay strong in the 2nd half of the season.

It’d be pretty sh!tty if Nashty gets those two awards and CP doesn’t get consideration.

But you can see Wallace winning?!

Jan.29 at 9:59 am

If they can finish strong and stay on top in the West, then I see Paul getting the MVP and then the coach of the year award going to Nate MacMillan to spread things out a bit.

Jan.29 at 9:59 am

BETCATS says:
yes ryne bread i can, just so a Hornet cant

Jan.29 at 10:00 am

Ryne Nelson says:
@Holly - Very true. What amazed me is that Paul didn’t even seem to play as well as he could have last night. He missed a lo of easy runners, including a wide open layup at the end of the third. Still, he almost ended up with a trip dub.

Jan.29 at 10:03 am

Jared says:
Remember that time people said Deron Williams was better than Chris Paul?

Jan.29 at 10:03 am

Rasheedionics says:
CP3 is basically a younger version of Jason Kidd with a jumpshot… and that’s a very scary thing for the rest of the league.

Jan.29 at 10:04 am

Keith says:
Chris Paul is fast becoming unplayable. He simply doesn’t make mistakes. He’s got more patience than the local STD clinic (I know that doesn’t work). A for Chris Webber… why is Nellie getting him? Is he gonna be in the rotation? If he is, then the Warriors are screwed because dude won’t be able to keep up with those guys.

Jan.29 at 10:05 am

Ryne Nelson says:
@Jared - I’m one of those people. Deron’s better for the Jazz system. I still don’t think CP3 would’ve been the right fit for the team.

Jan.29 at 10:06 am

BETCATS says:
Derron Williams = Pitbul
CP3 = Daddy Yankee

Jan.29 at 10:07 am

Ryne, you may need to be scolded for that comment.

BETCATS says:

Jan.29 at 10:07 am

Ryne Nelson says:
@Keith - Webber definitely is not in shape right now. That’s going to make it even harder for him to keep up with the breakneck pace.

Jan.29 at 10:07 am

Rasheedionics says:
Chris Paul and Deron Williams numbers are practically identical except CP3 steals a little more.

Jan.29 at 10:08 am

Jared says:
I don’t know that I agree Ryne. I think Deron’s been a good fit, and he’s doing well with Boozer, him with boozer and paul with Chandler probably are most effective the way they are, as opposed to switching the combos up, but I think CP makes any team better. He’s veru arguably the best point period in the L right now.

Jan.29 at 10:08 am

white hot eboy says:
BET, you couldn’t come up with a better comparison than two Puerto Rican rapper/singers.

Jan.29 at 10:08 am

Ryne Nelson says:
@Eboy - I think Paul is better than Deron. But Deron was the right choice for the Jazz.

Jan.29 at 10:09 am

Jared says:
BET…come on, don’t compare either of these guys to two crappy music artists…and I don’t get the Cwebb to GS thing…does he have knees that nobody knew about all of a sudden?

Jan.29 at 10:10 am

BETCATS says:
they are both young and not for me Steve Nash = Rolling Stones
Jason Kidd = Cecile Dillon Both old, have reps and not for me

Jan.29 at 10:11 am

Holly MacKenzie says:
I pray Webb doesn’t mess up that chemistry that the Warriors have got going on. I LOVE watching them, especially in the fourth quarter when Jax, Baron and Monta just take over. I don’t see how Webber is going to help out, or even will be able to be IN the game during the fourth, when the Warriors are making their push and playing that crazy running game. If he can’t help out down the stretch, why add him? Knowing my luck, he will prove me wrong and play himself into shape and be a great addition, and I hope so.

Jan.29 at 10:12 am

BETCATS says:
webber reborn, mark my words

Jan.29 at 10:12 am

Ryne Nelson says:
@Keith - You really get a feel for Williams’ leadership and value when you watch him off the court. In college at Illinois, he would practically run the practice himself. His basketball IQ is off the chart…most definitely one of the highest in the League, if not the highest.

Jan.29 at 10:12 am

Jared says:
I think Nellie thinks he’s getting Cwebb of 8 years ago…maybe he’ll have fresh legs tho and be able to help young brandon, btw, is he hurt or does he just NO burn?

Jan.29 at 10:13 am

Holly MacKenzie says:
Paul makes it look so damn easy out there. He can run, slow it down, do whatever he needs and it just looks so simple. I love watching him run the show.

Jan.29 at 10:14 am

BETCATS says:
Paul = Isiah Thomas 2.5971222222209

Jan.29 at 10:14 am

Ryne Nelson says:
@Holly - You have to admit the Warriors needed some help inside. I think it will turn out to be a good move. Most people have the same speculations as you do, including myself. But if Webber can prove himself to be in shape, there’s no reason the Warriors can’t improve with a decent, passing big.

Jan.29 at 10:14 am

Jared says:
I don’t think anyones arguing that Deron’s not good, it’s just like if someone wants to take KG over Duncan…two of the best, but it just seems like CP’s play this year has squashed all Deron hype…doesn’t hurt that the Jazz haven’t played as great as they were expected to.

Jan.29 at 10:15 am

Jared says:
BET, no hate, but what are you saying today dude?

Jan.29 at 10:17 am

BETCATS says:
jared 3 things - 1. I hate the hornets 4 leavings
2.Webber will have a great year
3. I have no intrest in Derron Williams, Jason Kidd and Steve Nash. 3.1- Gerald Wallace for ASG or MVP which ever comes first

Jan.29 at 10:18 am

Holly MacKenzie says:
Ryne; I would have liked the Lakers to have Webber with the way they are playing right now! I may have reservations about his game and conditioning, but, if he can play himself into shape and keep up, he will be an asset, especially to have sitting on the bench if they get into foul trouble. I just worry about the chemistry because the Warriors have got a good thing going right now, WITH some very colorful personalities in Jax and Baron. Everyone fits well together. While Webb hasn’t played for awhile, maybe he will just be happy for the opportunity and will blend in well. That is my hope.

Jan.29 at 10:19 am

Ryne Nelson says:
@BET - I’m pretty sure ASG is coming first. :-)

Jan.29 at 10:19 am

Jared says:
1 is understandable, 2 Yet to be determined, 3 understandable i guess, even though they are great and point guards are the most exciting players to watch, and 3.1 I feel you, he’s nuts…but what is Isiah Thomas 2.5 blabla etc?

Jan.29 at 10:20 am

Keith says:
CP also has one of the least confident looking dribles. It’s deceptive. He looks like he’s dribbling it way above his waist and a little out of control but as soon as a defender approaches him, he gets a better handle on it and blows by them. Incredible.

Jan.29 at 10:20 am

Ryne Nelson says:
@Holly - Im’ curious if he’ll get the minutes to play himself into shape. I’m thinking he’s going to see 15-20 per night, tops.

Jan.29 at 10:24 am

white hot eboy says:
Holly, you read/heard why C-Webb didn’t go to LA, right? They wanted him to play out 2 10 days and then they would evaluate him again. I guess the guarentee to get time was big in his decision.

Jan.29 at 10:24 am

Ryne Nelson says:
And hats off to Janero Pargo for not just making something for himself this season, but turning into an elite backup PG.

Jan.29 at 10:25 am

Ryne Nelson says:
@Eboy - I didn’t realize the Lakers weren’t going to guarantee him. It’s not like he’s an unproven player…

Jan.29 at 10:28 am

Jared says:
His health and durability arent necessarily proven though, but a proven vet like him deserves the respect of a contract. And it’s good to see Jannero get a solid and consistent role. He’s been doing it for a while, he’s brothers a beast too.

Jan.29 at 10:28 am

Ryne Nelson says:
Clippers looked horrible without Kaman and Maggette. Sam I Am still kickin’ it, though. His level of intensity - even in a game that never was a game last night - is astounding to me. HOF player in my book.

Jan.29 at 10:28 am

Jared says:

Jan.29 at 10:30 am

BETCATS says:
the isiah thing is the truth

Jan.29 at 10:32 am

Keith says:
Ryne - Kaman has been monstrous this year. he’s upped his game to new heights. Really picked up while Brand has been out. Those two in the front court next year will be a handful.

Jan.29 at 10:33 am

Jared says:
Na dude, like, what did you mean?

Jan.29 at 10:34 am

Holly MacKenzie says:
yea, Eboy, Phil wanted no part of Webber on the team. We could have used him though. We could use almost anyone at this point…

Jan.29 at 10:35 am

Russ Bengtson says:
Not mad at CP3 MVP (although I feel like it’s going to take divine intervention for anyone to beat KG), the Spurs aren’t looking much like champions, and the Clippers only lost by seven despite missing four of their top six players? Who do the Bobcats think they are, the Knicks?

Jan.29 at 10:36 am

Bryan says:
I don’t think Chris Paul is going to win MVP as long as the Celtics have the best record in the league, fair or not. We’ve already crowned their asses.

Jan.29 at 10:36 am

Russ Bengtson says:
And gee, I wonder why anyone would doubt Webber’s fitness? It’s going to end badly—again—in Golden State, I fear.

Jan.29 at 10:36 am

Ryne Nelson says:
The Clippers seriously lack a post presence last night. Although the Bobcats really didn’t take much advantage of it, you could tell any team with decent front scoring options would’ve had a field day.

Jan.29 at 10:39 am

Ryne Nelson says:
@Russ - The game in LA wasn’t close until the end. The Clip couldn’t bring it to a single-digit deficit if they tried. The only thing that keeps me watching are the announcers. Love that crew.

Jan.29 at 10:40 am

BETCATS says:
I mean that if any player plays like Isiah Thomas Played yesterday, it would be Chris Paul X 2.59324820412904312845 the random numbers emphises the fact he is 2.5X better

Jan.29 at 11:15 am

Kadavour says:
I think the Celts should pursue him (Stoudamire). He can hit that outside shot. He’d be a better fit than “looking to go to championship contender” Jason Kidd.

Jan.29 at 11:16 am

Kadavour says:
But we all know Doc and Jason have wonderful chemistry

Jan.29 at 11:18 am

I like Damon for the suns, he’s a quick guard who can hit outside shots which they need behind Steve Nash.

Jan.29 at 11:18 am

I’m sorry but if the C’s have any shot at Ason without disrupting their core, they’d be morons not to…

white hot eboy says:
Shia, the comments are kind of restricted since the discussion last Friday, so I doubt there will be an 800 postfest anytime soon.

Jan.29 at 11:49 am

Russ Bengtson says:
A guaranteed contract is a guaranteed contract. He can’t just tear it up and say “OK, I’ll take $2 million a year.” The only way you’ll see Kidd on the Celtics is if he gets bought out and signs for the minimum, or he gets waived, clears waivers, and signs for the minimum (in which case the Nets eat the rest of his contract, which isn’t going to happen). In order for him to be TRADED to the Celtics, the Celtics would need to send $19 million in salary back to the Nets, which means they’d have to trade Pierce or Allen. The only way they could do it without involving Pierce or Allen (or Garnett) would involve trading the entire roster excluding those three. Which would lead to other problems.

Jan.29 at 11:51 am

Bryan says:
Bah.

Jan.29 at 11:52 am

Bryan says:
The Celtics are pretty much stuck with what they have because they got rid of all their tradeable assests.

Jan.29 at 11:54 am

Russ Bengtson says:
Not such a bad thing to be stuck with 34-8. (Cue Captain America to come in and start moaning about how bad they’ll be in 2066 when KG and them are still on the cap.)

Jan.29 at 11:55 am

Jared says:
Yea, no major trades in their forseeable future. They could probably acquire a young, energetic type big if need be, or a solid backup point, they do have a few semi tradeable assets on top of future draft picks. Where’s Leon Powe?

Jan.29 at 11:55 am

Captain America says:
Does Webber make grills? C-Webb will be wearing an oxygen mask runnin’ with da warriors. He’ll look older than Nellie.

Jan.29 at 11:56 am

Keith says:
Kidd wants to go to a contender, right? So that limits the options to San An, Phoenix, Dallas, NO and any team out East. San Antonio won’t ruin their style to accomodate Kidd. Phoenix…oh man, if they could get him it would be crazy but no way Kidd and Nash are balling for the same club. They would cancel each other out.Dallas is always an option and N’awlins has CP3…plus they’re not rally contenders as they’ve got not previous. I could see him in Toronto. You heard it here first.

Jan.29 at 11:58 am

Captain America says:
Russ, I suspect you missed me this weekend as the Magic did their thingy on the C’s. Celtic fans are in a snit over the 5-5 record of late. Poor KG saw Dwight coming an Doc got him more medical attention.

Russ Bengtson says:
What about Portland? LaFrentz, Blake and James Jones work under the cap. Would Kidd ruin the Blazers chemistry? Yeah, probably. Or Denver?

Jan.29 at 12:01 pm

Captain America says:
As for J-Kidd a Celtic….forgetaboutit!! Look for Damon Stoudamire to back up Rajon (who I actually like).

Jan.29 at 12:04 pm

Keith says:
You mention Kidd ruining the Blazers chemistry…I’m thinking, rashly admittedly, that Oden may do the same. How about Houston for Kidd? Alston, Battier and James going the other way?

Jan.29 at 12:05 pm

Jared says:
Whats Denver got for him though?

Jan.29 at 12:05 pm

Keith says:
How has Damon Stoudamire become so fortunate? The Spurs and the Celtics are both looking into getting his services. Tough life - one conference contender or the other…

Jan.29 at 12:09 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
That’s the thing–the West is so tight right now that virtually anyone in the top 10 could be a contender with Kidd thrown in the mix. I don’t think there’s any way he stays in the East unless a) the offer is amazing, or b) Thorn has given up hope on making the playoffs, which I don’t believe is the case. Not to mention the only true contenders in the East appear to be Boston and Detroit, and they’re already set at the point. (Then again, imagine Kidd to Orlando for Rashard Lewis and Jameer Nelson? It works. Kidd with Dwight and Hedo? Sheesh.)

Jan.29 at 12:10 pm

Jared says:
I really can’t see any trade working but Dallas

Jan.29 at 12:11 pm

WhaHuh says:
I know were not talking about LeBron anymore but this is a funny video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkL8mSCO0b8

Jan.29 at 12:15 pm

Jared says:
Kidd and Malik Allen to Dallas for Hassell, Devin Harris, Dampier and a pick? Contracts work…

Jan.29 at 12:16 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
I think it needs to be a bigger deal. Most likely three teams. Although I still kind of like my proposal: Kidd, Collins and DA for Dampier, Harris and Stackhouse.

Jan.29 at 12:17 pm

DP says:
J-Kidd needs to a laker. just give the nets vujacic and trevor ariza and make the deal happen. play wit it.

Jan.29 at 12:19 pm

Jared says:
It could work for Dallas…but Stackhouse and Wince on the same team…man, like a Stu Scott wet dream

Jan.29 at 12:19 pm

Myles Brown says:
Theo Ratliff, Antoine Walker & Gerald Green?

Jan.29 at 12:20 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Salaries don’t match at ALL. Any laker deal would have to start with either Kwame (tough, now that Bynum’s out) or Lamar.

Jan.29 at 12:21 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
I assume if Jason Kidd got traded to Minnesota he’s actuate some sort of self-destruct switch. And ‘Toine on the same team as Vince? Yikes.

Jan.29 at 12:23 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Ready for this one? Kidd to Phoenix for Nash and Boris Diaw. The Suns shed salary, and Kidd is a better defender than Nash.

Jan.29 at 12:27 pm

Captain America says:
Is J-Kidd a $20M player at this stage? I don’t see any contender breaking up their team at the halfway point for Kidd. Although there will be pressure for teams who are under performing relative to expectations to do a deal. Hasn’t J-Kidd whined about this before?

Jan.29 at 12:28 pm

Jared says:
Myles I like the way you’re thinking…the Nets probably wouldn’t hate it but I doubt Kidd would love it…never know tho…he could ignite all that young talent, but in the West they couldn’t do better than a 6 seed this year.

Jan.29 at 12:29 pm

Captain America says:
Of course, if J-Kidd injects himself with some KG determination serum, he might go strong till he’s eligible for social security.

Jan.29 at 12:32 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
The Timberwolves…a six seed…THIS year? I don’t care if they add Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain and Oscar Robertson in their respective primes, that simply isn’t happening.

Jan.29 at 12:36 pm

Jared says:
You don’t think a team like that though, with guys who can run, and a solid big in AJ could win an extra 15 games with a player like Ason? Look what he did for that Nets team. I know its a different situation, but there’s a lot of talent in Minnesota.

Jan.29 at 12:41 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
There are what, 10 teams separated by roughly five games at the top of the West? Ten teams over .500. The worst of them is Houston, who is 24-20. The Wolves are 8-36. Forget Kidd, they’d have to trade for LeBron and Dwight. They’d do better, yes, but would fall well short of the playoffs. Playoffs? We’re talking—playoffs?

Jan.29 at 12:43 pm

Jared says:
Yea i didn’t realize how deep into the season they are…i’m taking a lap for that one…but if they start the season with kidd they got a shot to make the playoffs…Playoffs!

Jan.29 at 12:46 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Maybe. The West is murder, man. You’ve got teams like the Jazz barely clinging to a playoff spot. And I mean, the Nets, with Kidd, Carter AND Jefferson, are out of the playoffs in the EAST.

Jan.29 at 12:47 pm

Jared says:
Yea but you know their coach should be out of a job, as should their starting 2-guard. That teams f*cked dude.

Jan.29 at 12:51 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
It is, but they have a lot of talent. I just don’t think you can throw Kidd on the worst team in the NBA and automatically turn them into a playoff team in the Wild West. Five years ago, maybe. The Wolves aren’t the Nets, who are just missing a bunch of guys due to injury. They’d need at least one more All-Star caliber vet. And a better coach, I think.

Jan.29 at 12:54 pm

Jared says:
I agree on the coaching tip, I’m only saying that I feel like this T-wolves team is real similar to the ‘01 Nets…with Kidd as the variable. The Nets were hopeless, and I know they had a lot of injuries in previous years, but a healthy Kerry Kittles wasn’t the difference. They had a good young 4, a very athletic rookie 3, and a 2 who could shoot, twolves have AJ, Corey, and McCants…and although Kidd is 6 years older now, his best attribute is that he makes players realize their potential…I just feel like he would make everyone on that team play at a higher rate, as opposed to the team he’s on now that’s filled with egos and b!tches.

Jan.29 at 12:55 pm

Jared says:
Also, that was the East then and this is the West now…i don’t know, I just think they’re 15-20 games better with him.

Jan.29 at 12:55 pm

Jared says:
My last argument was against my initial argument btw…East was weak, West has been too strong…yadda yadda

Jan.29 at 1:01 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
It would be interesting, I’ll give you that. And it would certainly cement Kidd’s legacy if they could turn it around that much. I just don’t know if Kidd’s interested in going that route. I’d guess HELL no.

Jan.29 at 1:02 pm

Myles Brown says:
The Wolves are actually missing their two most important players-aside from Al-due to injury. Foye is the only player who can consistently create his own shot AND create for others *ahemRashadahem* while Theo would allow Al to play in position and provide the defensive presence thats missing. I still dont think this is that bad of a team and Id like those two back ASAP so that we can see what we have. And potential free agents can too…

Jan.29 at 1:03 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
I’d rather see the Nets trade Carter to the Knicks straight up for Zach Randolph.

Jan.29 at 1:04 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Myles, Theo Ratliff has been out because of injury since what, 2001? Don’t hold your breath or you’ll wind up the same color as your favorite shirt.

Jan.29 at 1:05 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Besides, if I’m the Wolves at this point I’d rather crash into the Lottery and get Gordon or Rose. Either one of those guys would be what, 12 years younger than Kidd and $15 million a year cheaper?

Jan.29 at 1:09 pm

Jared says:
I think they’ll look real pretty if they can land derrick rose…hate to be a bandwagon goer…but if the wolves get d.rose and the knicks don’t dump isiah, i will be a wolves fan until isiah’s demise

Jan.29 at 1:17 pm

Myles Brown says:
Yeah, I was just kidding about, um, Kidd. But I was talking to someone the other night and I dont watch much college ball, but the main difference between Bassy and Rose would be the finishing at the rim and long range consistency. And I question whether Rose could finish like that in the L. Regardless, Id take him, but it makes me wonder if Bassys staying wold be contingent upon a guaranteed starting spot or something of the sort. If so, wouldnt that affect who the teams gonna draft? It seems as though its going to be one or the other and that frustrates me since Ive enjoyed watching Telfair grow this year.

Jan.29 at 1:20 pm

Jared says:
But Myles would you want him as your franchise starting point guard? I’ve only gotten to see a handful of his games, but from what I’ve seen he will never be able to lead a team deep. He is still very young, so obviously he hasn’t fully reached his potential, but Derrick Rose just has such immaculate handle, court vision, and he has the ability to take over a game. Yeah he’s in college, but he’s also got a bigger body, no Kobe.

Jan.29 at 1:20 pm

Bryan says:
I think Telfair still has the tools to be ridiculous. He’s absurdly quick and can pass the sh*t out of the ball.

Jan.29 at 1:27 pm

matt the jazz fan says:
i say he ends up in cleveland in a three-way trade… not sure which one and can’t be bothered to go to the trade machine on espn.com but seems like the team with the greatest need for a point guard… second most likely = houston…

Jan.29 at 1:34 pm

Myles Brown says:
I think Bassy has the same handle and vision though. Hes played some masterful games this year considering the options he has to finish off his passes. I dont know what it is, I see him working on it before every game, but his jumper is just so effin suspect that it prevents him from adding another dimension to his game. If teams had to respect him on the pull up or around the perimeter, he and Al could be Tony Parker and Tim Duncan. Seriously, look at their skillsets. I was willing to give him a chance in preseason when everyone was sh*tting on him, so I dont want to have seen the team cultivate him just so he can go flourish somewhere else. So keep Bassy, draft Rose and bring him off the bench. If he earns his spot, then Id respect that.

Jan.29 at 1:51 pm

Bryan says:
I think Bassy can be better than Parker, he hasn’t developed that one go to move yet that Parker has.

Jan.29 at 1:54 pm

Captain America says:
Sheesh, I hate to agree with Russ, but the Wolves are two years away from the playoffs. Bassy still doesn’t finish around the rim, but he’s a worthy back-up to Rose. Foye is the 2. Brewer the 3. Big Al the 4. And a player to be named later is 5. McCants sparks off the pine with Bassy, Smith, and Gomes.

Jan.29 at 1:54 pm

Bryan says:
And the guy is only 22! He should be a rookie this year.He would be putting together a solid rookie year if that was the case.He won’t be putting up Steph numbers but 17 and 8 isn’t out of this world.

Jan.29 at 1:55 pm

Captain America says:
And, no, I’m not a soothsayer, but I play one on Slamonline.com

Jan.29 at 2:05 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
I can’t imagine the Rockets going for Kidd, unless the Nets were willing to take McGrady and one of their PGs–Skip or Mike James. And even then it’s shaky. The Rockets need to surround Yao with shooters who can make defenders pay for doubling down. That ain’t Kidd. They’d be better off with someone like a Jamal Crawford.

Jan.29 at 2:12 pm

Jared says:
Telfairs 9 and 6 in 33 minutes is definitely good for him, but if he were a rookie this year, and he’s not, he wouldn’t even be a top-3 candidate for rookie of the year…and this is his fourth season, he has nba experience. I’m not saying he won’t amount to anything, but its ridiculous how much of a break people are willing to give him. He made the decision to come to the L, he thought he was ready, he was wrong. It’s good to see him getting it together though. I’m sorry for hating.

Jan.29 at 2:16 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
@Bryan - Bassy better than TP? That’s a bold statement, especially with the starting PG role going to Foye in a couple weeks. I think Bassy needs to worry about starting first, then he can worry about ASG’s, etc.

Jan.29 at 2:20 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
@Russ - I can’t see Kidd on the Rox, either. The best (and most likely) option is still the Mavs. It’s the perfect time to buy on Kidd since the Nets basically have no choice but to give him up, and the rest of the market seems pretty dry.

Jan.29 at 2:25 pm

Bryan says:
Well I’m biased I think TP sucks. Plus I’m from brooklyn so I admit my bias in that regard also , but seriously all I’m saying is don’t give up on the dude.

Jan.29 at 2:28 pm

white hot eboy says:
I’m still amazed that a person from Brooklyn in your age range, Shia, has no love for hip hop. Mind blowing.

Jan.29 at 2:29 pm

Bryan says:
I don’t conform to stereo types. I like early to late ninties hip hop.Anything that talks about something. I’m tired of hearing “I had a rough life , I slang drugs to come up now I’m here” Because I’m like yeah you and every other f*cking rapper. It’s the same tired sh*t.

Jan.29 at 2:31 pm

white hot eboy says:
Tribe Called Quest?

Jan.29 at 2:31 pm

Ryne, it’s not Kidd’s decision. The decision belongs to Thorn, a shrewd operator.

They’re not bad, not that I could name any of their songs.

I always thought a great nickname for a big time point guard that leads his team to great things would be “The Ringleader”. Get it, ring, like a championship ring and leader because he leads the squad.

The Lakers are hosting the Knicks, Eboy.. Still, I hope Showtime comes alive.

Kobe’s going for at least 40.

Jan.29 at 3:40 pm

white hot eboy says:
I thought they started the 9 game trip. Damn sh*t coverage on ABC. They made it seem like the Lakers were on the way out to the road trip after the Cavs game. Well, he should still ight it up regardless.

Russ Bengtson says:
They get the Knicks as a going-away present. That David Stern is so nice.

Hello

Jan.29 at 4:14 pm

It’s one game, Shia. I know what he can do for one game. He will dominate the paint against Kwame (please, scare me right now) who else Turiaf (goodbye within 3 minutes) and who else, maybe the HOF’er Mihm could be back. Keep the dream alive, Lakeshow people. Kobe will have to play huge, and will, but Wade will get his big game on too, so……well, I’m telling you today. Two big games outweigh one.

Jan.29 at 4:15 pm

Jan.29 at 4:20 pm

Thanks Holly. It was actually a bone scan of my foot. My doctor sent me to the hospital to get that done since it goes deeper than an xray. I guess it sort of is an MRI. I should know something in the next week.

Jan.29 at 4:31 pm

TADOne says:
Shhhhhhh. Don’t jinx it Eboy.

Jan.29 at 4:37 pm

Holly MacKenzie says:
haha I’ve got a friend who tore her acl, braced it up the next day and played an entire season on it. Crazy pain threshold. Just like this guy. Tore it, obv. couldn’t brace it to play football because he’d be a target. Said there was minimal swelling, but that when the doc’s were doing all of the tests last week they were like um, hold on and they brought in other doctors because they couldn’t believe how lax his knee was, that his shin could move forward and backwards, it was sick. He said it hurt, but he just built up his quads and because he has strong legs, he was okay. Still crazy to think, no acl… for 8 years of playing football?!

Jan.29 at 4:39 pm

TADOne says:
Ok Holly, I’m going to handicap your Lakers road trip. Game 1 @ Detroit: loss, 2 @ Toronto: since you’ll be there, win, 3 @ Washington: loss, 4 @ New Jersey: Kidd wants out, so win, 5 @ ATL: 2nd game of back to back, so loss, 6 @ Orlando: loss, 7 @ Miami: win, 8 @ Charlotte: 2nd game back to back, loss, 9 @ Minny: Minny’s been playing good, so close win. 4-5 road trip I see. Not bad, all things considering.

Damn, I feel like a b*tch now. Jesus.

Jan.29 at 4:43 pm

Holly MacKenzie says:
nah, haaha the doc told my friend that there is a very small percentage of people who can even avoid the crazy swelling that usually accompanies an acl tear. I’ve seen a ton, and all of them have blown up overnight, except my friends. Everyone was like, “NO way that is torn, no way”, we just thought it was a tweaked meniscus or something… MRI revealed it was a complete tear. So strange, hey?

BETCATS says:

Yeah, that is really crazy. My doc did tell me that foot injuries are so hard to predict as far as recovery time because they are very sensitive and have thousands of little bones in them. But still, it is very annoying not being able to run or play ball for 7 months.
