The Kidd Contenders
Quick rundown of who’s in the running for Jason Kidd’s services: The Mavs (though Cuban doesn’t sound too enthused about the idea); the Knicks (hey, why not!); Nuggets and Blazers. Oh, and my sources tell me that some guy in Ohio is interested, too.

The Trailblazers should absolutely risk destroying their chemistry to acquire a 35-year-old point guard who can’t shoot and makes $20 million a year.

Portland’s not touching Kidd. Putting character issues aside, Kidd’s for a team looking for success right now, whereas the Blazers are trying for something more long term. And besides, Portland’s kinda loaded right now. I’ve worried a lot recently about us ending up like the Bulls in a year or two, when we’re too enamored with all of our young guys to make a move. But that’s a problem 2 or so years away. But Kidd won’t be playing in PDX this year.

er, um, yeah, what Russ said.

Gawd, this is frightening, Russ is right! J-Kidd stays wit Nets. Nobody with winning record and on track for playoffs will deal till summer.

I say Cavs get the closest. Probably offer Drew, Sasha, Newble, two draft picks… Maybe throw in Gibson too. That’s two expiring contracts, two decent players, and two crappy draft picks, but what other choice do the Nets have? Dallas wont deal NOBODY good (unless Nets take Josh for Kidd straight up) and I dunno, Lakers give up Odom, Farmar and Brown? Maybe?

portland is more insterested in being the third team than acquiring Kidd, on yahoo! sports : Portland gets Devin harris, nets gets Devean George, stack, outlaw, frye, and jack. Dallas gets kidd. Plus some picks/cash/scrubs here and there to balance out the numbers

oh, and thats not official, just “serious” negotiations from yesterday

A backcourt of Harris and Roy? Mad little, but no one would be able to stay in front of them.

I am still not a fan of Kidd on the Lakers, primarily because of what we would have to give up, combined with the injury to Bynum. So, glad to see we’re not on the list.

The Portland end of the Yahoo Sports deal doesnt make a lot of sense, unless the Blazers are getting some picks from the Nets as well.
It still seems like a lot to give up (Frye, Outlaw and Jack) to get Devin Harris. Unless the motivation is to clear roster space for next year, and not have to worry about resigning outlaw in the offseason.

What Russ said. Plus, why try get a PG in a guard heavy draft? Absolutely stupid.

Outstandingly amazing commentary from Dave D’Allesandro’s NJ dot com mailbag: “Let’s not forget something, though. Every other nitwit (hello) thought this was a pretty good team when they broke camp, and one nitwit wearing No. 5 thought it was the deepest and most talented team he’s ever played for. And you know how it goes: If they actually started strong and weren’t a bunch of mental midgets, they had enough talent to sustain the strong start and keep everybody happy — unless the guy making $19M decided he wasn’t feeling as appreciated as the guy making $13M. As a GM, you try to take the temperature of your best players from time to time, but with a guy like this, you never know when he’s going to get in a snit because he is a pathological self-server who isn’t exactly forthcoming with his feelings. You can blame the boss, who deserves some of it. But much of this falls on the shoulders of a captain who quit on his team back in November, which is kind of why Thorn will do his best to trade his butt to Seattle or Memphis.”

definitely enjoyed Dave’s column on star ledger when i used to live in jersey. completely agree with the quote. something happened in the locker room and everyone on the team quitted on everybody else. i don’t understand. with that roster they should be competing for the east crown.

if the deal goes through, new jersey is going to buy out stack, which means he’d go right back to the Mavs…

If they can get him off to Seattle / Nevada..(Or wherever the Storm are going…?!) and get Luke Ridnour in return that would benefit nobody else but Luke Ridnour…

As a Mavs fan I’d enjoy seeing Kidd back there. He has 2 years left before he’ll need a walker but he’d make Dirk, Terry, and Howard better. And if Cuban can overpay a girlie man like Dampier almost $11 mil, he can afford to pay for an aging wife beating Kidd. Not to mention the Mavs don’t quit like the Nets apparently have.
