Spurs: Winners of Mighty Mouse Sweepstakes?
Alright, so “Sweepstakes” might be too strong a term when discussing Damon Stoudamire’s availability, but the truth of the matter is that he could really help out a title contender.
Perhaps not surprisingly then, the Spurs and their brilliant front office are expected to sign the former Grizzly as early as today.
Stoudamire had expressed interest in signing with both the Spurs and the Boston Celtics, but seems to have settled on San Antonio as his destination of choice.
With Tony Parker indefinitely sidelined (honestly, isn’t it about time we began appreciating the understated stylings of one Jacque Vaughn?) with a nagging left heel injury, and the Spurs’ traditionally successful Rodeo Trip off to a rough start, this signing couldn’t have come at a better time for San Antonio and its fans.

Jacque Le Bleu!! Why and how is this guy still in the league? He must be a TREMENDOUS locker room and practice personality. Plus Damon’s reached his “Damn I’m too old for this crap so I need to latch on to a championship contending team” age. Took long enough.

I mean, this is the absolute dumbest move Mighty Mouse could ever make. Why didn’t he sign with Boston or Phoenix or a team that really only has one point guard? Parker’s going to play 35-40 minutes and the rest is Vaughn’s territory. Sure, he’ll play (badly) now, but what the hell is he thinking?

Haha, I guess. As long as he’s okay watching the team get him that ring on the bench.

You know, I always wonder about that. Does Sean Marks gloat to the Phoenix Suns about his championship ring even though he barely played five minutes with the Spurs?

TADOne says:
He could take Jacque Vaughn’s minutes easily.

I guess my confusion comes then, from why he will be the first guy off the bench for the Spurs while he couldn’t break Memphis’ rotation. Is his game better suited for the Spurs? Do people think he is going to reemerge with a fresh start? Does everyone forget he’s 5′10, 34 years old with horrible legs and increasingly bad eyes?

The Spurs just want him for his, uh, connections.

Once The Celtics sign Sam-I-Am, Ainge will look like a genius once more… My, how times have changed.

I think this signing could work out well for the Spurs. Tony’s had a nagging ankle/heel injury all year and Pop has finally decided to sit him indefinitely. (Tony’s having an MRI today) As a life long Spurs fan, I’m worried about our team this year. I hope we make a move. Say peace to Brent Barry and maybe someone else in order to bring in some youth/athleticism.

Makes sense for both sides…Stoudamire will absolutely get Jacque Vaughns burn, and he could play with Tony at the same time…they wont be able to guard an opposing backcourt, but they’ll score, quick

FLUD says:
Spurs need points outta the back court…ie: Vaughn is dreadful, Parkers flopped off, Bones has a dodgy calf. I think they shipped Scola out because he wasn’t old ENOUGH.

*tsk*tsk* We’ll see what happens..
But I only have two words to say:
BRYAN COLANGELO
He’s doing everything in his power to bring Mighty Mouse back because of TJ Ford’s absence.

Ryne Nelson says:
No they shipped Scola because they weren’t sure if he would fit with teh team chemistry

Great move for us people in San Antonio. I think Damon is a good guy also (aside from his tinfoil weed incident). But he’ll fit in and knock down some 18 footers

Ryne Nelson says:
Stoudamire’s not a good fit, in my opinion. He may be a cagey vet, but he certainly does not have big-game experience. In this aspect, he’s about as fresh as his cousin in the ATL

Reggie Evans says:
If the Spurs want him for his connections, does that mean they are pursuing David Harrison as well?

Simmy Sosa says:
What’s with all this trash talk about Jacque Vaughn. You guys may not realize it looking at his stats, but Jacque Vaughn is a very solid backup point guard. He plays great D, knocks down open shots, doesn’t turn the ball over, and he doesn’t try to do anything beyond his abilities. Now the Spurs can’t depend on him as a scorer, but that’s where Damon Stoudamire could help.

i hear bryan colangelo of the raptors is in the hunt for a pg, most likely damon stoudamire

This is the point why the Spurs don’t repeat.
They got too many injuries and bad signings a season after they won championship.

Navid says:
i cannot believe the spurs are 6th in the west…then again, the 10th place team (Houston) is 25-20… forget Boston and the best record in the league… How good the is the west is a far better question.

I think Damon will fit in Great, if the fans can get over his comments on Avery Johnson back in 1999; No team will ever win a championship with Avery Johnson running the point!! Well maybe they can seeing that Avery sold out to the Mavs, WTF??? But anyways, Damon is a great player, and he knocks down open shots, something that Jacque Vaughn is having problems with tonight against the Suns. So we fans welcome you with open arms Damon, come join us in another Great Ring Ceremony!!!! GO SPURS GO
